I had some basic repair work done. I came back a week later for the pick up. The quality of the work was very poor; including the stitching color choice was awful considering the color of the material being stitched. It was a real hack job with one section way off on alignment. I politely pointed out the large misalignment, and was shocked by the loud, rude response I immediately got. Gary yelled at me loudly, "don't start!". I politely, softly said, "Do you see the misalignment?" and pointed to it. Gary then immediately yelled loudly at me, "GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE BEFORE I CALL THE POLICE!" Another customer in the store and I just looked at each other in bewilderment over this behavior. Gary has serious anger management issues. It was shocking to be treated this way as a customer, as a person. The poor quality of the work was shocking, as well. I rolled my eyes to myself and left. In a word: Outstanding! The idea of a cobbler seems somehow 19th Century, but there's still a real need for a skilled craftsperson to repair or restore expensive footwear. I have a set of Dan Post boots that span decades, and one pair of the older lizard skin boots were starting to show their age. The heel was warn past the rubber and into the wood, and the soles were starting to split. I brought them to Nashua Shoe Repair to see what they could do. A week later, I now have boots that are BETTER THAN NEW. The quality of the sole and heel, and the owner's ability to restore the finish of the black lizard skin is nothing short of amazing. I recently brought in a pair of White's wildland fire boots I use for work out west. They had been severely abused and were blown out in multiple places, and I had been told by one cobbler already that they were junk. Gary resoled and patched them and made them perfectly serviceable for another season, saving me $500 for a new pair of boots, the process of breaking in another pair all over again, and/or the wait of sending the boots back to the manufacturer for a rebuild. I haven't had any problems at all with Gary nor his work. Always pleasant and alway quality work at a wonderful price. My wife once had a problem with a boot that was tight. I took the boot in and was charged $10 for stretching. I took it back two more times until she was satisfied and they were able to stretch it without breaking the seams. They didn't charge one cent more. So no boo ho from this end. I just dropped off a Sorel to get a sole glued and again, Gary was as pleasant as could be. read more

I wish I had read these reviews and not just googles, if I had I wouldn't have gone here and I wouldn't be writing this review. Took a boot in to have an eyelet (professionally) replaced, what I got was a $.25 eyelet, like scrapbookers use pounded into the boot. I paid $8 and waited one week for that! I could have one that. And I could have matched the color too. He used a gold eyelet when the rest of the eyelets are a muted brown. When I mentioned that he told me "It's a shade different." No it's gold, they are brown. So he just turned around and walked away! I don't know what he did for the people that gave he 5 stars, it most likely was not replacing an eyelet! If you need an eyelet replaced, save yourself some and do it yourself. STAY AWAY!!!! read more

Its becoming harder and harder to find a master cobbler these days as the trade is dying out in the states. Fortunately we have one in SNH and Gary Boot & Shoe repair is awesome. To many people dispose of good shoes with out understanding they can be fixed to almost new for a fraction of what you paid for them. Now that he also repairing luggage and other leather goods makes this company all more valuable. Not recommended. Some people have children, I have shoes. I have a serious love affair with my shoes. To the point where I store them all in the original boxes. So when I first moved here a decent Cobbler was #1 priority on my list. Even above a grocery store. I was sorely disappointed with Gary's Shoe and boot repair. Because of my affection towards my very expensive shoes, I put cobblers through a trial run. (One pair of pumps needing new heels and something small in the upper). In this particular instance the faux snakeskin upper had torn near the ball of the foot, something a simple glue job should fix. The shoes took a week to repair and I didn't pick them up until a couple of days late because I forgot they are only open until 5pm and not on Sunday or Monday (no big deal, i just forgot). When I picked them up the heel was re-done properly with a hard plastic heel and proper color. However upon closer inspection the glue was a bang up job. Because the snakeskin is synthetic it has white in the middle between the inside and outer part of the shoe. There was ZERO attention to detail here because there was a gap with white showing of about 1 cm (HUGE). Although I was not charged for the glue I would have preferred to be charged for it and have them do a proper job. I could have glued my shoe the same way with superglue!!! Overall: 1.5 stars for doing the heels properly. And I round up so they get two. Although the heel was done properly, I certainly will never be returning. read more

Don't be fooled by good reviews like I was. First I went with a pair leather captoes that I ruined! I'll be honest they were destroyed, I went to a 'paint party' and though it was non-toxic non-permanent paint there was still some on the shoes and the sole started separating on one of them. I like nice shoes but I wear them like sneakers. The cleaning wasn't great (I got it the rest of the way myself and there were areas near the sole he just flat out ignored) and the glue job worked, but was sloppy. There were gobs of glue that pushed out onto the sole and he didn't bother to touch up, also areas where he glued over the faux sole stitching, so you could see it on some areas both others were glued over. I'm not really picky, but my own work requires a lot of attention to detail and I would never let something pass through me with that kind of workmanship. Maybe because of the condition of the shoes. I don't know, it wasn't expensive, $16 maybe but anyway I still wear them. The second time I went I had a pair of wingtips that fit well but there was just too much room above the top of my foot. An insole was suggested but I thought it'd be better to have a more uniform raising of my foot so that it met the roof of the shoe. He charged $40 to put some material inside the shoe (just like an insole only he removed a small insert and sandwiched it back on top of the added material) which turned out to make it fit well around the laces but too tight in the toes. When trying them on (glad I did before I walked out) I noticed the inserts were not even completely glued down, there was only glue applied in the heel. I asked if he could just cut out some material in the front of the sole to give more room to the toes. He told me he'd have to 'stretch' the toe and that I would have to pay an additional $10 bucks. I said just cut some material out it's not even glued in the toe (you could peel the front back so it was exposed out of the shoe and trim a bit with an xacto) and when I mentioned this he responded by saying, "I'm not getting into a pissing match with you." at that moment I knew I was leaving and never coming back. He tried to justify his position but his attitude, lack of attention to detail and disgusting customer service skills really turned me off to doing business with the guy. Bottom line, I gave that guy two chances and $40 bucks to half glue an insole into a shoe because of the couple glowing reviews on here. Heed the negative ones. Like Can D. and Arlene R. Had a sole on a $250 leather shoe come loose. Took it to get it glued back on. Repair lasted 20 minutes. Didn't go back in based on how rude the guy was when I initially took the shoe in for repair. Do NOT even consider going to Gary's! The guy (personally) is so bad, it prompted me to write my first Yelp review. I took 2 pairs of my wife's shoes to have plastic heals replaced with rubber. My wife wanted black and light tan to match the rest of the sole. Gary's wife helped me, said no problem, it will be a week, please prepay (which I did). Today I picked up the shoes, black heels on both pairs. When I pointed this out, Gary through a fit. He changed 1 pair to tan, hands them to me and states "don't ever come back here again". I said the color needed to match, that's what I bought. Gary then charges around the counter, gets 3 inches from my face, and bumps me chest to chest, and starts cursing at me. The zipper tabs were pulled off my Samsonite suitcase during a flight to Florida rendering the suitcase unusable. Southwest airlines does not cover damage to zippers. The only way I could find out if the suitcase was reparable would be to ship it to Samsonite. Then I discovered that Gary's here in Nashua does suitcase repair. I brought it there and was told by Gary he could put new tabs on it. It would cost $16. for the two tabs and I had to prepay it. I was told it would be ready in a week. When I returned for the suitcase, Gary was working in the shop and his wife retrieved it for me. Since I am cautious, I checked to make sure the zipper worked properly and saw only one tab had been put on. It worked, but the suitcase was useless to me with only one tab. (I could not lock it and it's very inconvenient to have only one tab.) I was not told only one tab had been put on the suitcase and was only offered an $8. refund after I complained. Gary said he could only get hold of one tab. His wife said it can take a year to get parts for Samsonite. Since I could not use the suitcase as it was, Gary took the tab off and I got my $16. back. He was very rude and nasty and certainly not very honest. He could easily have phoned me to tell me he could only get one tab and certainly I should have been told when I picked up the suitcase! read more

I love my shoes! I have many pairs high end shoes $200+ per pair. I walk very hard on my shoes and seriously wear down my high heals. I have brought them to Gary's for the past 5 years to have the heals replaced and the leather polished. I have always had good luck with cost. Just recently I brought in 6 pairs of high heals and they came out beautiful. There are not too many cobbler's around anymore.
