I had a moment of panic when I realized that the elastic piece at the heel of my slingback sandals…read morewas preparing to snap. I have a hard enough time finding footwear that fits my smaller feet in the first place, so I definitely wasn't prepared to throw away a pair of sandals that I'd barely owned for a couple of years. I'm sure the folks at David's Shoe Repair in Andover are fantastic and all, but when I called up asking how much a repair like this would cost, he quoted me $30! I shopped around a bit, and the gentleman at The Town Cobbler was...pretty amused with that quote and told me a repair like that would cost no more than $6 easily. Two days later and my sandal was as good as new and the elastic he replaced it with was stronger than the original elastic! If I have problems with my footwear in the future, I will definitely check here first. Between the fair price, professionalism, and prompt service, it's a no-brainer for me!

I found Bay State and called the store to find out their hours and talked to the owner. Luckily, they were open on Saturday morning just long enough for me to drop my shoes off and possibly pick them up on the same day. The store is in downtown Haverhill (not in the heart of downtown, just on the edge) and has ample free parking. It is a an older building and the repair shop is a bit worn, but I don't really care about how it looks as long as my shoes get fixed correctly! The owner looked over my shoes, said he could repair them in 1/2 hour and even offered to replace the elastic strap on the other shoe before it failed as well. I asked him to clean them as well, and his estimate was just $15. When I went back after 30 minutes, they were indeed ready at the stated estimated price. He did a great job on the stitching (it is even and looks professional) and they are fixed and look like new! Great price and great work = 5 stars.

Did the coat first, and it came back close to immaculate! I'd thought that those grimy cuffs were beyond hope. So next did the jacket-- now it looks fresh off the rack. No weird chemical smells, no trashed linings or buttons. The woman who helped me was knowledgeable and helpful. The hours are convenient. It's not cheap, but it's so worth it. ***One caveat: the address in Yelp is outdated! Song's moved down & across the street, is now at 1292 Hookset Road in Hookset.
