First and foremost, Dr. Penny is excellent at what he does. He is kind, patient, knowledgeable and compassionate. I relocated to Texas earlier this year and wanted to find someone who I could place some solid confidence behind. He was able to immediately address some issues I had and has been exceptionally supportive since then.
Unfortunately, his office's outdated business practices create unnecessary inconveniences for the patient. This is why I have unfortunately chosen to seek a different doctor.
Specifically:
- he does not accept or bill medical insurance
- he does not accept debit/credit cards
I've had to pay 100% visit cost in cash upfront with every visit, and then wait for his office staff to mail me a receipt with ICD9 codes for insurance claim purposes. Otherwise, I get zero credit for meeting my annual deductible. These are way too many hoops to jump through when I could just have a simple per-visit copay and let insurance cover the rest.
It's a shame that Dr. Penny's office has these policies in place, because I would otherwise be a loyal long-term patient. That said, if the insurance and payment restrictions are not an issue for you, then you will be in excellent hands.
