The ground you walk on is no longer slippery with grease, and a new generation of smart establishments have sprung up alongside well-established take-aways such as Dorothy's. One of these is Bali, an Asian restaurant just opposite the entrance to Brewery Quarter. The service is okay, and the décor is inoffensive if a bit plain - but on the food front it scores well! Indonesian food isn't easy to come by in Cardiff, and this place serves up some fairly authentic Indonesian dishes alongside some from Singapore and Malaysia. We tried the classic Nasi Goreng, and also Kari Ayam, a Malaysian curry - both of which were delicious.

I got a bit of a taste for Nasi Goreng and this type of cuisine when i was in Singapore and Borneo last year and haven't seen it anywhere else apart from here. They have quite an extensive menu with lots of dishes that make a refreshing change from chinese or indian dishes. And they even do banana fritters. Loses marks because of the slightly tacky decor and pretty average service. But its such a nice change and do some bargain lunch menu's and early dinner offers too.

We ordered at the busiest time of evening, and were told the delivery would take 50-55 minutes (which is a while really), but it only took 30 minutes in the end. The delivery guy was very smartly dressed and polite, and it was a pleasure to deal with him and the guy who took the order (I especially liked the telephone conversation because he said 'Yes, got it,' in a very sincere way after I ordered each individual item). The food itself was one of the most pleasing Indians I've had in a while, and was the tastiest Aloo Paneer that I've ever had. Every mouthful was a delight. Plus, it only came to £16.40 for three people, which is excellent, I think, all things considered. This place is not just a takeaway, they also have a restaurant on Cowbridge Road, which is easy to find and nicely decorated. Although this place can often seem quite quiet, they sat open until 2am on a Friday and Saturday night, and this is when it gets really busy.

Offering mainly Indian and Indonesian dishes, Eurasian Tandoori creates a convincing marriage between these very different styles of cooking... the menu is vast! There's fierce competition on this stretch of street, with Sugar N Spice, a Bangladeshi restaurant and take-away located next door to the Canton Kebab House just a few doors down. Sugar N Spice present more of a threat, as they also have an extensive menu covering several different styles of Asian food, with a reasonable price range. Out of the two, depending on the order, Eurasian Tandoori works out cheaper than it's near-by neighbour, and because of the Indonesian options, it is also sufficiently different to tip the balance in its favour. But, just to maintain their competitive edge, they also do Bangladeshi fish dishes! A bit sneaky really! It's also possible to order a take-out into the early morning at the weekends, so this is a real advantage as well, especially as delivery is free if you spend more than a tenner. The service is great, and the food is excellent. I love the Biryani's! I've only ever eaten in once, and found it to be a very pleasant experience... especially as it's a 'bring your own' arrangement, which helps to keep the costs down. I really like both Eurasian Tandoori and Sugar N Spice, and am only able to decide between them if I know I want to order something that one of the two don't have on their menu! I recommend you try them both!!!
