We visited Castellamare after spending a over half of our day in the car exploring the southern parts of Wales. We were beyond pleased that this restaurant popped up on our map and that there was about an hour before closing. The restaurant location is beautiful and overlooks Bracelet Bay which on this occassion was lit up by a bright full moon. We dined on: - Pasta Bolognese - Luciana Pizza - Pepperoni Passione Everything was tasty and filling. We ordered a chocolate brownie to go. Yes -- our Welsh friends cringed slightly when we did that. The food was even delicious the next day. We even made a mental note that we want to come back at a different time of day and eat there again. Not being from the area, we found everything to be reasonably priced for a pretty Italian restaurant. It was the perfect way to end a meal with new and old friends. Excellent lunch in great location. Two course menu for £12.95. A la carte menu also which was very extensive. 3 of us had the delicious pea & fish cakes with dill and a pesto sauce mmmmm my second course was grilled chicken with mushroom bacon cream sauce. Whilst I'm very fond of the main restaurant (see earlier review), I'm afraid that the café is unfortunately in its big sisters far superior shadow. To start with I'm not very keen on the café's décor; of course I'm not expecting it to be "posh" (it is after all only a café), however it does not echo the main restaurant's Italian authenticity, but rather resembles a canteen. The view does nothing to add to the surroundings, as it merely overlooks the car park rather than the beautiful Bracelet Bay. Back on the canteen theme the food I ate actually rather reminded me of some school dinners that I'd rather forget! Now to be fair I did order Fish and Chips, and as this is an Italian restaurant that was a slightly thick thing to do (but why are they even on the menu?) but the quality was dreadful and at £8 I was less than impressed! Despite the obvious negative tone of this review so far, there are a few positive things I can say about Castellamare! Whereas the main restaurant is quite expensive, if you're in the area and fancy Italian food this is a much cheaper alternative. Additionally unlike the main restaurant they serve pizza (which is very yummy), and you can get ice creams to take away, which are always good after a nice long walk and you can forgo actually eating in the restaurant. Clearly I'm divided in my opinion when it comes to this café. If you do decide to go, just avoid the fish and chips! read more

We ate in the restaurant and had excellent service and great food. We ordered the seafood platter and lasagne. The scone type bread was fantastic! The platter came with salmon, hake, haddock and one more whit fish, oysters, prawns, and scrimp. It was perfect. The lasagne was good as well. We then got dessert and they were mind blowing the hand made fudge brownie)the best I ever had) with vanilla gelato and then the Carmelo with soft toffee. Our experience was first class and the view of the ocean made it all Devine!!! read more

This location had been tried in a few different formats before it successfully hit upon the notion of an Italian restaurant. A venture to start up a sister to the well loved 'Pizzeria Vesuvio' in Hafod, Castellemare is run by the same family. They probably never anticipated it would get so popular that eventually the restaurant would be expanded to include a café and ice cream parlour. Genuine Italian food is what leaves the kitchens here, with crispy stone baked pizzas and pasta dishes rife with fresh ingredients. The seafood risotto is especially good and there is far too much of it to go unsatisfied. What gives the place its real panache is the location. Almost the only building for a few hundred metres it sits on the crop of a cliff overlooking Bracelet Bay. As testament to what a lovely spot it is, Catherine Zeta-Jones-Douglas has a gaff up the road from here. It is a bit more expensive than most places in Swansea but still worth it if you get a table with a view. read more

This is THE place to go for traditional style Italian pizza accompanied by the stunning views out to sea and over Bracelet Bay. A perfect day is a proper Italian coffee to start the morning than a long walk along the cliff path past Langland and onto Caswell Bay and then on return feasting on an Calzone(folded over pizza making a delicious envelope) or standard thin based pizza with wonderful toppings and accompanied by Italian style salad. Alongside the pizza choices are delicious home cooked Italian dishes including great pastas and blackboard specials. As an aside, for October and November last year and this have an offer of buy one pizza and get one free, makes it far too tempting for a regular autumn visit. read more

I've just got back from a lovely day exploring the coast around Mumbles. We started our day with a coffee at Castellamare - an Americano and a cappuccino. The latter (which was mine) was the tastiest I've had for years, served with a wafer straw. We sat outside and sipped them slowly, enjoying the amazing view (it was a gloriously sunny day). After walking up an appetite, we decided to return to Castellamare for lunch, and were not disappointed. I had 'pizza Stefano', a 10" pizza with pineapple and fresh chillis. My wife had 'pizza crudo' with olives and parma ham, and we shared a side salad of fresh salad leaves, pickled vegetables, tomatoes, olives, all lightly dressed with a delicious olive oil. The pizzas were cooked to perfection - a tasty thin base, and just the right balance of sauce and topping. It being a hot day, we both opted for Sanpellegrino Limonata, which was served with a tall glass with a slice of lemon. A nice touch. Sitting there next to the fountain looking out over Bracelet Bay, the Mumbles and Swansea Bay in the full sun, we could have been in Sorrento looking over at Naples. We popped back later in the afternoon for a gelato, having seen the huge queues in Verdis further round in Mumbles. We sat on a bench in the garden at the end of the terrace. The gelato was excellent. Bliss. For us, the combination was just right. Great coffee, great pizza, wonderful views. Four stars well earned. I imagine the hot sunny weather helped - I'm not certain I'd want to go there on a rainy day and sit inside. However, if I return and things are just as good eating inside in the restaurant, then I'll change this to five stars :-) read more

Hmmm, I'd been here on occaisions before and thought it was OK'ish, however my last visit was served really poor quality fish and chips - very poor compared to some of the other places I go to around the Swansea area. Nice place to go and sit for a drink on a nice (or indeed rainy!) day. I probably wouldn't bother with the food again, although perhaps I just visted on an off-day? read more

I went to this place at the weekend with a friend. Although the pasta, pizzas and main meals looked delicious, we were both disappointed with the toasted sandwiches that we had ordered. They were made with plain brown sliced bread, which didn't seem in keeping with the Italian restaurant. I would have expected ciabatta or panini bread, which would have made it much nicer. At £5.50, I also thought it was very expensive for a sandwich. However the views from this place were amazing and the place itself was spotless. read more

This is one of my favourite places in Swansea. I could make a meal just out of their delicious breads and the enormous bowl of marinated olives they give as a starter. The main courses are generally very tasty and definitely filling. The view is absolutely spectacular, the only problem is getting a place on a sunny day! read more

Suppose there should be two parts to this; the cafe and the restaurant. So I will review both. The cafe - average surroundings, the day I went it seemed to be extremely cold in there, most people kept their coats on . I kept it simple and had a pizza, which was very good. Plenty of toppings and was cooked perfectly. The restaurant - went here for a birthday meal. Much better, warm and ambient surroundings (the cynic in me tells me this is exactly how you're meant to feel, meaning you'll go and spend more in the restaurant, rather than the cafe). I had the pasta carbonara, which was absolutely superb. The service was excellent, and overall I would fully recommend it to anyone. Four stars maybe because the selection on the menu isn't as varied and in depth as most Italian restaurants. read more

The establishment is split in 2. A more formal restaurant and a more informal cafe-bar. Have not eaten in the restaurant, but the cafe serves toasted sandwiches pizza and pasta. The toasted sandwich was nice enough, but you can't go to wrong with a jam cheese toastie. Prices were ok, but the real winner here is the view. Stunning view over Swansea bay. There is a large car park, but is £1.10 an hour. Nice playground at the rear for the kids to run off lunch. In all ok, but prefer Verdi's. read more

A truly amazing location overlooking the bays and the lighthouse - hold your skirt down if you're getting out of a car there on a windy day!!! Nice location for a romantic meal, not cheap but also not as expensive as some of the places you can find in Swansea. Service can be a bit hit and miss as the snack menu loses out to the main more expensive meals in preparation and service, fine for a coffee if you can get a seat at the front ot perhaps a warm-up after a walk along the headlands! Otherise everything you'd expect from a decent italian restaurant. Location makes up for most of the pitfalls. read more

Bit of a " Hit or Miss " venue for food / service in my opinion, and I've been here often enough to know over the Years. You probably pay for the view / venue more than anything else, BUT, it is fantastic sitting there overlooking the Sea, on a lovely Summer evening, especially if the Tide is in full....... read more

Gorgeous location, amazing food. During the day it is great to spend a morning on the beach looking for crabs etc. with the children then hike up to the ice-cream parlour and have a coffee. We spend whole days here, because there is an excellent playground behind the car park as well. read more

Used to go here years ago and went back yesterday. It was crowded and draughty. The food was bland and the waitress was really rude when we made a comment. Plus my daughter trod in dog poo on the terrace I know that's now their fault, but they had staff out there all day and they could have cleaned it up. I put something on their Facebook page and they deleted my post clearly they just want Facebook as a blow their own trumpet tool and not a customer service tool. The fact that they deleted my post and didn't bother to respond to me shows that they do not care about customer service at all. What a shame! read more
