Love this park! I've been here multiple times, and no matter what time of day or year it is, this park is always beautiful. It's a lovely place to walk, enjoy beautiful sunsets, see the cherry blossom trees, have a picnic, fly a kite, watch the Northern Lights, or go stargazing. It's perfect for everything! There are washrooms open until the evening, a small eatery where you can buy ice cream and snacks, and plenty of parking too.I would definitely recommend this place to everyone! read more

Garry Point park offers not only a small beach, grassy areas, 21 picnic tables, 1 grill, a kite area but walking/biking paths along the waterfront. Seeing the neatly maintained Kuno Garden, Fishermen's memorial and boat watching made for a delightful and memorable mid afternoon visit. While I thought the huge power kites were a symbol of childhood enjoyment it was so cool to see two adults flying all nine of them! It was great to see them enjoy the simple pleasures of life flying these in the winds off the Strait of Georgia. read more

I love this park! My favorite spot is at the fisherman memorial monument where I'll sit at the "S" stone stool and look out to the sea. On a clear day, you can see Mount Baker. There are rows of cherry trees which will bloom with cherry blossoms during the season. On weekends, you will see lots of kites flying in the sky. I also come here in the wee hours to catch aurora when the geomagnetic storms are happening. It is a nice walk around the park. Parking is free and the washroom is nearby. There is a cafe on the other side of the parking lot. It is busy on weekends and summer. You will see many people with pop up tent and canopy to shelter from the sun, having a picnic or bbq. read more

"Beautiful place for a walk, sunset photo." Garry Point Park is one of my favorite spots for sunset photography. At dusk, the sky melts into soft shades of pink and blue over the calm water -- pure magic. Whether you're walking, relaxing, or chasing the perfect shot, this place captures the quiet beauty of Vancouver's coastal light. A must-visit for photographers and dreamers alike. Garry Point may not be the most picturesque park around (unless the cherry blossom trees are in bloom), but it does have plenty of other charms to offer: waterfront access, a limited number of small, sandy beaches, a monument to fallen fishermen, a small Japanese garden, public restrooms, a surprisingly decent snack shop, and plenty of walking paths and trails. Not to mention proximity to the Steveston wharf and downtown area, with its multitude restaurants, shops and facilities. Still, there's plenty of green space for picnics, field games, sunbathing, watching the ships sail by, and other park-related activities. Residents of Steveston are lucky to have this effectively right in their own communal backyard. read more

I love Steveston so much and no trip to this remarkable beach-y town is complete without dinner on the water at Pajo's (best fish and chips EVER!). Well, unknown to me, just a few blocks away from Pajo's is this stunning, waterfront park where you honestly feel like you are a million miles away from the city. I visited here at sunset and, seriously, it almost felt like a spiritual place. First, important to note, there is a huge parking lot here and it's FREE. Also, there is an enormous solar panel apparatus at the front of the parking lot where one can charge one's electric car. For free. Cool, eh? Also important to note: as my friend and I were driving through the lot, we noted free washrooms at the rear of the parking lot. Good to know! Back to the park. Just.....wow. After parking, one walks on paths through a wide open field. We saw someone flying a kite and some groups sitting on blankets, picnicking. We passed a stunning, imposing monument dedicated to those fishermen who lost their lives at sea (see my review on the Steveston Fishermen's Memorial). We walked through a small but beautiful Japanese garden. We passed a few whimsical beach "art" on driftwood and uprooted trees. We passed a few benches with touching memorial plaques on them. We passed a guy fishing, casting his fishing rod out over the jutting rocks. We passed herons and seagulls and some beautiful wild flowers. And then we were at the water, walking on the shore. And it was stunning. If you are in the area and in need of a fix of natural beauty, I strongly recommend coming here and walking the shore and taking in the sights. It'll remind you of how lucky we are to live in this province. read more

My dear friends - there's been so much weird about 2020 (staying home indoors on weekends & most evenings) & the bizarre (lining up at the grocery store) & surreal (I just can't seem to get myself to eat food out of a box = more home cooking) & we are not even through a quarter of the year yet!!! I think we all came into this year with 'Vision 2020' glasses - full of optimism, hope & excitement!!! However, all hell has broken loose!!! It feels good to be out as I was going stir crazy!!! I'm still observing the restrictions in place - staying back from anyone you pass & keeping distance etcetera. It feels like it's been a while since I've done this & it's good to be back on Yelp! If you have experienced tragedy or serious job loss during this pandemic - I wish you a better remainder of the year & nothing but blessings coming your way! It will be interesting & quite sad actually, to discover which of our favourite restaurants, pubs & other hangouts have not survived this pandemic!?! Will anyone still go to the disco!?? I had so many places to still visit on my 'wish list' & sadly I believe several will not survive this nasty pandemic & fail to reopen. So after several weekends cooped up inside I needed to get out & this Sunday afternoon was the perfect day! Beautiful Garry Point Park in Steveston is just heavenly this afternoon - blue sky & sun! Ahhhh there's nothing quite like fresh air!!! Hallelujah! Surprisingly there's several people walking about including many seniors! Yikes! I came across this abandoned - well actually a 'stop work order' in effect due to the Coronavirus - film set! This is the location setting of the Netflix production of - Midnight Mass, with famed director Mike Flanagan & many actors from the hit - The Haunting of Hill House. Please don't tell anyone - I chickened out on watching it! Midnight Mass was supposed to begin shooting at the beginning of March - then COVID-19 wrecked havoc on everyones plans & shut this production down - for now. Expected release date of 2021 so look out for it! Once this pandemic passes, please add making a trip to Steveston Village (please see my review) & Garry Point Park a part of your plans! One thought - I'm seriously considering taking up cigar smoking & whiskey drinking every night!!! What's to lose!?! Cheers & stay safe everyone! read more

Peaceful, clean and a wonderful retreat for families and friends alike. Dog friendly too!

Having been a resident of Richmond for over 25 yrs. this is the first time I had been to the Sakura (Cherry Blossom) Festival, parking of course is at premium, but we were lucky to find a side street parking spot. The festival was well attended and there were lots of arts & craft booths featuring Japanese Culture, such as Tea Ceremony, Origami, Kendo Demonstration, etc. There were also a few food trucks selling: Yaki Soba, Sushi, Japadog and more. Its always good to be enjoying a local festive activity where you can bring the whole family and have a great day out!!! read more

This is actually a cool little park. There is a bit of a beach I guess you can call it, but people do hang out and sunbathe here. I think I saw some signs though that said it wasn't recommended for swimming. It seems to be a pretty good place to fly kites here as you see some people with their kites here. There is also a small concession stand as well. There is a trail that goes around the park. Right now it's just one way with lots of signs posted cuz of covid. There is a parking lot in the back as well...... read more

One of the best park ever, this place attracts more people to visit steveston village...huge park theres a big green-grass area for kids and dogs to run and fly kite, trail for walkers, runners, dogs and bikers. On spring time this place offers a lot of cherry blossoms..on its season the place looks heaven..this is one of the reason why i always come here on spring time.. Another reason is just walking around enjoying the view of land and waters..wild birds and ducks roaming around plus those small to big ships patrolling the water...the cargo ones are huge,.... Its a clean park, ive noticed aswell that theres some guards patrolling it,im not really sure if these people are patrolling or just doing their walks like me Huge free parking and the park is open almost most of the day...actually im not sure if they are closing it during the night. At summer when the sun is out this place is amazingly beautiful..and during sun set its spectacular...i love the place so much that everytime i have friends visiting from outside BC i always drive them around here. There's pajos restaurant by the park,no wifi but theres public wash room.....for people who dont wanna pay for the meal tables are plenty around the park to enjoy packed meals... When i visited the other day it was alternately rain and shine but still i managed to captured few amazing photos. For people living outside the area you may plan your trip on weekdays traffic in steveston up to highway and up to knight street is pretty bad.... Enjoy the park.... read more

No visit to Vancouver would be complete without a trip to the historic Steveston district of Richmond. However, most people seem to overlook this park, which is a short walk away from the Cannery. Parking is available in a large lot in the area, as well as side streets. The area is great for bicycling, or bringing one's family to enjoy the outdoors. As with any coastal area, it can get windy here, so be sure to dress warm. My personal favourite part is the dock area - it is great for taking shots of the sunsets, as well as all the fishing boats moored nearby. There is something really special about this area - these are the kinds of shots that would end up on postcards. read more

Kite Flyers on Canada Day. We enjoyed our visit to Garry Point Park in Steveston Richmond City B C. Took along our big kite, as did many other enthusiasts. It's a reliable windy spot at the mouth of the Fraser River, a large open parkland area. Facilities for washing up. Snacking nearby. Do your own picnic or bring a portable bbq. Parking is free and easy. Families flock to Garry Point Oark, especially on statutory holiday. Plenty of space. We had acres of fun honing our kite flying skills. Highest recommendations for healthy outdoor active people. read more

Garry Point Park is situated beside Steveston Village along the Fraser River. This is the park to go when you want to destress yourself and enjoy nature without travelling hundreds of kilometres away to some more well-known destinations. What I really like about this park are the views of the coastline, especially the Gulf Islands. It's free of super cargo ships, which are a common sight in coastal parks in the Greater Vancouver area. However, there are small commercial fishing vessels which line the boardwalk. There is a big large green space for flying kites, enjoying a BBQ picnic, or just laying on the grass. The trails are very well maintained and they are very clean. You will get a strong breeze because there are very few trees. Make sure you wear sunscreen during the summer or a jacket when the sun isn't out. There are excellent fishing opportunities at this park. Seriously. You can catch some amazing fish right on the shore (coho, sockeye and chum salmon, pacific tomcod, bull trout, cutthroat trout, dolly varden, and car sized white sturgeon - catch and release only. read more

I used to come here before it was a park, when it was just a big pile of dirt. We used to take our truck here or the ole Subaru and race around in the big mound in the mud. Now it's a park and a beautiful one at that. Natural, beautiful view of the water and if you remember to bring mosquito repellant in the evening, a nice walk in the sunset. Parking is plentiful, there's Pajo's fish and chips and a place for yoghurt and drinks and stuff. Nice place for a walk or jog and even a picnic. read more

Garry Point Park - Garry Point Park in Steveston - Parks Near Me - Richmond, British Columbia

Garry Point is located right at the mouth of the Fraser river and offers a vast grassy area and perfect winds to fly kites. In addition to this there's little spots here and there where you can climb down the rocks to the edge of the water and hang out. Although it's not allowed, you'll see plenty of people down by the edge with nice roaring fires going and roasting marshmallows. It's not the nicest park, but it is definitely a convenient option to get close to the water and the parking lot coupled with open space makes it a good place to take the entire family. read more

We came up across this park on our way through Stevenston. This park is close to the shipyard where they film the TV show "once upon a time". We saw people flying kites and having a good time. There was also a Japanese garden right in the middle of the park. As you walk further into the park you'll eventually come across a fisherman's memorial. Really interesting to see some of these historical landmarks. read more

This park is super small. Not sure if you would consider it a park. Maybe, kind of ? Well its attached to Steveston. So after shopping for seafood, can come here and walk around. Did you know that just next to this park is where the Once Upon A Time crew films? I was driving around one afternoon and was looking for a parking spot and drove into the wrong lot. I asked the security guard if it was a public parking spot but was informed it was for the cast of Once Upon A Time! Sadly, I did not see any famous people that day but it was nice to finally know where Storybrooke is! This park is absolutely beautiful. It is a seaside park with a gravel pathway. There are plenty of parking spots and it is located near a very cute quaint town. Definitely a place to visit and take a nice walk. Easily my favorite spot in Richmond, this park is a nice mix of easy to get to and walk around, with a pinch of history in the form of the cannery, and lots of in the marshland and ocean views around it. Kite-fliers seem to love this place: I've never not seen people flying them on sunny days. It's a small park (easily traversed in a fifteen-minute stroll), but more a pleasant and atmospheric walk than the bumper-to-bumper baby carriage crowd that swamps the shops and boardwalk nearby in Steveston proper. read more

Such a beautiful sight! We came here as a spontaneous trip to kill time before the Richmond Night Market and this was one of the best ideas we made on this trip. Parking can be a little iffy on a beautiful sunny day, but with determination you should be able to stalk a family and take over their parking spot. :) The first thing I saw was a bunch of kites being flown over the grass area. It was amazing to see many people, young and old, having a blast flying their kite on a semi windy day. There's a nice view of the water too - that the park doesn't recommend swimming in - BUT it's a great view to take wedding photos in front of! I took a stroll on their trail and it was a flat giant circle, so I recommend walking on it to get a whole view of what the park looks like. Mainly it's just flat land with a bunch of grass :) Oh! Last but not least, there were a lot of cute dogs in the park. When I went, I was tempted to take them all home with me. (jk. I wouldn't do that.) read more

This small park next to the Gulf of Georgia Cannery is a lovely place to explore more of British Columbia's natural beauty or to walk off your meal from Pajo's or any of the abundant eateries in Steveston Village. The views are spectacular, the walk is easy, and while no park in Vancouver or Richmond, B.C. seems as jammed as any park in NYC, it did seem more crowded than the larger Vancouver parks. There are picnic tables scattered here and there, but many people just planted down on the large green "meadow" with their coolers or food bought from the village shops. The walk through the parking lot from the Cannery seems long on a hot day, as there is no shade, so lotion up with sunscreen even before you reach the park. You can stroll through a petite Japanese garden, examine the fisherman's memorial, or just kick back, and watch the kites in the expansive sky. Another one of Vancouver/Richmond's parks worth ambling through. read more

We are kite people. We are those crazy people that carry lots of different kites in the back of their car. When I heard that there is a "kite field" out here I had to check it out. There is a kite "field" but it's so well used it's more like a kite mud flat. The smaller kids had a hard time standing in the mud and all the grooves and ridges created from the feet of the kite flyers made for an obstacle course for little legs. I had to hose them off before letting them back in the car. There were so many kites in the air it was hard at times to find a spot. It made for a very cool view to see all those kites flying together, but a bit frustrating to be trying to fly in it. We felt like some people there didn't respect the space of people there before them and just shoved their way in or launched way too close to someone else, making me worry about tangled strings. We could pretty much forget the two string... there was not enough space for that. Yeah it was cool to have a space just for kites... where you could launch your kite and not worry about someone coming up and trying to play frisbee around you, but a weekday when there hasn't been any rain in a while (which pretty well never happens) is recommended. read more

I grew up on 7th Ave. so you must know how much time I spent at Garry Point...I could see it from my house! The days of kite flying with my siblings, came to a end far too quickly. Beautiful place to hang out with the family and friends. My family and I go to Garry Point Park to watch the breathtaking sunset in the summer. It's also a great place to grab a bite at Pajo's Fish and Chips and/or Timothys. However, the beach has water unsuitable for swimming, but nonetheless is a great place for scenic pictures. I personally love the constant sightings of cargo ships, boats and the occasional kayaker in the waters. These factors all make for a great outing. I think it's one of the best places in Richmond to bring tourists, as it is just a walk away from historic Steveston. Thumbs up! read more

Garry Point Park offers some of the nicest views of the Fraser River and Gulf Islands--summer, winter, fall or spring. My cousin bought freshly caught 8 pound salmon for $30CDN from one of the boats at the pier, plopped down some Tunies (that's $2CDN for our U.S. cousins) to BBQ at the park. Yummy. Bring a kite, bring a bike, bring some food, and get here before 11am on busy Labor (Labour) Day Monday. Watch commercial fishing and transport vessels on the working Fraser River, and see a variety of wildlife including shore birds and jumping salmon. Great trail systems as well. Explore the old canneries that existed in this area prior to this part of Richmond being Chique. I remember the days when this place was an unincorporated "Steveston", the land of the smelly fish processing plants and the land of the ditches...but no longer...property value here has since sky rocketed. read more
