Referred to Dr. Garrity from my local long time established family Dr. His scheduling staff understood my limited available days to see the good Doctor. (I"m an airline pilot and gone 5/6 days a week). I was fortunate enough to fill a cancellation and was seen by Dr. Garrity only 3 days later. Dr. Garrity was VERY focused when communicating with me. He is a good listener (I ended up asking a lot of questions first). He clearly answered all my questions without bull****** me. We discussed the risk/reward, recovery, and he was honest in saying my medical condition was likely non-critical and although I would talk with a hoarse voice, an option was to monitor the polyp. I immediately scheduled the surgery for about a week later. The surgery was scheduled for 1:00pm, which was completed at Alexian Brothers medical center, Elk Grove Village Il. I was told and showed early at 11:30 am (good idea) and was admitted and prepped at about 12:30. The pre-surgical nurse's who were assigned to me were informative, clear and kind. They continually updated me that my surgery would be pushed back until 3:30 and finally 4:30. (I watched TV and got a lot of emails done during this time) The pre-surgery nurse came in about every half hour, updated me with expected delays, and asked to help me with anything. They were honest and said Dr. Garrity's previous surgery was taking longer than normal. Personally this built further confidence in Dr. Garrity as he was not rushing through a complex surgery (I was told it was some kind of ear surgery) just to get me in. At about 4:30 Dr. Garrity came in to talk pre-surgery questions with me, again VERY PLEASANT, answered all my new questions and off we went to surgery. Oh, and the anesthesiologist was GREAT and obviously a seasoned veteran. The evening of the surgery and rest I felt goofy as I was recovering from anesthesia, exactly as briefed by Dr. Garrity and the anesthesiologist before the surgery. As of the day after surgery I feel great! Thank you Dr. Garrity, Mr. anesthesiologist & staff! I wish all medical care were this pleasant. read more
