We had stopped by this location a few days before and Sophia warmly introduced herself and made us feel welcome. We had such a positive interaction with Sophia that we came back to see Sophia and taste some wines and fortified wines. Sophia was extremely knowledgeable and curated a delightful wine tasting experience for us both. We were extremely impressed by her extensive historical knowledge of Portuguese wine and wine makers. Her professionalism and expertise allowed us to experience and taste some of the best wines this country has to offer. We even ended up purchasing our new favorite Vintage port made by Vallado.

My walking tour around the city culminated with a tasting back at the lovely wine shop, and not only was Francisco extremely knowledgeable about the authentic and off the beaten path places to visit in Lisbon, but he was also an outstanding historical guide, spoke great English, and kept me laughing all day. I'd read so many positive reviews about his food and wine trail tours that I had high expectations, which he completely exceeded - it was an incredible value. Venha Vinho's tour availability can be limited due to their great reviews, so request space early and make sure to ask for Francisco!

I came back here at least 2-3 times because it was a unique and interesting experience. The ginjinha is sweet and syrupy, but not too sweet like other places I've tried. It's also right next door to my favorite pastel de nata store, Nata Portuguesa, so I could get both fixes in one trip. Most people recommend the ginjinha with the cherry but I prefer it without. The drink is filled to the brim and I have shaky hands so it would get sticky and messy sometimes. But the store is prepared and has a little sink inside on the right to rinse off.

My young tour guide…read moreback then took me here to have a cup (actually a shot) of ginjinha, the traditional Portuguese sour cherry liqueur. When Jamie W and I inadvertently walked by recently on our first evening in Lisbon, I realized we needed to stop and do the same thing. I had next to no memory of it, just that it didn't kill me. Jamie was rather hesitant, but I just showed my typical insolence and walked up to the proprietor behind the counter. He was already in mid-pour, and I actually remembered to say "com elas" to indicate we wanted cherries in our drinks. They were only 1,50€ per cup (Photo 8). We sipped them in seconds. The puckery flavor led to a nice finish. We were on our way in less than five minutes. DRINK - 4 stars...if sour cherry is your thing, have at it AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...just an open door and a bottle SERVICE - 3.5 stars - he pours and collects, though he liked the way I said "com elas" TOTAL - 4 stars...a must-do ritual for any tourist in Lisbon RELATED - Exploring Lisbon? After that, a Port wine was presented to us as a special product, different from the regular commercial version, with explanations suggesting exclusivity and added value. Based on this presentation and the tourist context, a bottle was sold for 85 €. After the trip, I discovered that this Port corresponds to a clearly identifiable commercial product that is widely available elsewhere at a much lower price. I contacted the merchant to request clarification or a possible solution. Despite several polite exchanges, no objective or verifiable explanation was provided, and no reasonable solution was offered. The final response was dismissive. This review is not about taste or wine quality, but about pricing transparency and how the product was presented, especially to tourists. Travelers should ask very clear questions before purchasing.

From the…read moremoment it started, it was clear this would be more than just a walk through barrels and bottles. The tour itself was engaging and well paced, with a strong focus on history. We learned about the origins of the winery, the family legacy, and how their winemaking traditions have evolved over generations. It felt informative without ever being dry, and you could tell the guide genuinely cared about what they were sharing. Walking through the cellars was especially memorable. Rows upon rows of aging barrels, dimly lit spaces, and a real sense of time passing quietly alongside the wine. It gave real context to what eventually ends up in the glass. The tasting was excellent and leaned toward premium selections rather than entry level pours. Each wine was thoughtfully introduced, with explanations that made the tasting more meaningful without feeling scripted. Everything we tried was high quality and expressive. The charcuterie board was a perfect complement. Fresh, flavorful, and generous, it elevated the tasting rather than feeling like an afterthought. Simple, well chosen accompaniments that let the wine shine. Overall, this was a polished yet personal experience. Informative, relaxed, and genuinely enjoyable from start to finish. If you have any interest in Portuguese wine, especially from the Setúbal region, the José Maria da Fonseca winery tour is absolutely worth your time.

The two young women in the dining room did not speak English, and their Spanish wasn't great either, so communicating was a struggle, but we got by. We ordered fish soup, the soup of the day, beef carpaccio and a dessert, along with two glasses of wine. The soup of the day, vegetable was ok, it was simply pureed veggies, but the fish soup was outstanding! It was full of fish chunks and fresh veggies, I could have eaten another bowl for sure! The beef carpaccio was served with shaved parmesan, arugula and capers. It was quite tasty, but was more of an appetizer for one person perhaps. The dessert was probably the best part, it was so unique, so beautiful, and probably the most filling! The wine was good, but it was hard to really know what to order because the menu we were presented, did not describe the wines, or where they came from, so it was sort of a blind pick, and we honestly don't even know if they were from the actual winery or not!
