I have had this place bookmarked for a while now so I decided to stop over for a beer lunch on Sunday. The place is a neighborhood corner bar and restaurant and I had parking at the front door so I know it's dead. The place had three people in it that were friendly and some woman asking if anyone wants popcorn as I walked in. The bar area is in the front corner and the restaurant is in then back and it's completely empty so now I'm thinking it's a bad choice for lunch. I ordered a beer and I asked to see a menu and I was informed that the restaurant is only open on Friday and Saturday but they have frozen pizza if I'm interested, no thanks because I can have frozen pizza at home. The restaurant portion is so dated with wood and leather with a nautical theme that it bordered on old school cool, see my pictures. This is a neat little bar to say the least and I'm glad to have finally stopped by even though I didn't get to eat here, maybe another time I will I will get to eat here.

Gards Schmards, you save big money you save big money. Save big money at m-------ds. If you sang that last line you might be from The Midwest, and its been burned into your DNA. Same with fish fridays at the local taverns, This is a basic triangular tavern dive good comfy seats. Outside smoking shelter. With picnic tables and seating. Near the corner pub. They are known for Fish Fry Friday and friendly people here. Drinks made right. At a good price. The bar is a bit smaller and seats are softer and parking is on the street all around the triangle. Gaaaaarrd'ss! Great dive bar with damn good drinks at a bargain price. Eric & Shannon do an awesome job behind the bar. Best of all, they are always entertaining & funny. Drink specials can be had anytime the bar is open, every hour is happy hour at Gard's. Shane rocks it in the kitchen, I especially like his Friday fish fry or the $2 burger on Saturdays. Both a deal & a kickin' meal. The joint is inviting & comfortable. The local crowd is friendly. Plenty of street parking. The place never disappoints!

Best and most affordable burgers in town. Go in on Saturday from 12-3:00. Amazing dbl cheeseburger and fries for only $3.00!

The waitstaff will walk you through how that works your first time. We started with some of the taste & share plates - showing off WI cheese to the out of towners - and then a few people shared some gnocchi and beef tartare while a couple people got burgers. We had maybe 4 bites leftover, and no room for dessert, it was a personal victory. I'm sad I didn't get photos because I love the feel of each unique area that's here. The restaurant is bigger than you think because it's subdivided into smaller rooms. We had a group of 7 for a work event (which meant I kept my phone put away) and were in a cozy little nook in the back by ourselves, I'd never even noticed this little spot. What a fantastic time we had!

It's a great environment with a lot of good drink options. I always opt for the Parker rolls which are tasty but again expensive for the amount you get, I typically order the trout (which until coming here I didn't realize was essentially the same as salmon). It's very good and the potato pancake is a nice touch. Over my visits I've also enjoyed trying the short rib gnocchi, butter chicken, and brussels. They also have a small party room which I have attended an event in before which is always a nice touch. It's secluded and of course much quieter than their main dining area which can get pretty loud!

Consistently busy over the years and for good reason. I've been here a few times and I've never been disappointed with the service or the food. It's a dark, cozy little restaurant bar but with so much character and history. Service is friendly and efficient. I love that the food I've ordered here has always exceeded my expectations with the seasonings and quality of ingredients used. Reasonably priced too! We quite literally came here straight from the airport. To make matters worse, we had not eaten anything substantial all day and had actually looked this restaurant up weeks before our trip while researching places to eat the infamous Wisconsin fish fry, so we were really looking forward to the experience. The experience started off poorly when our party was essentially scolded by the hostess for sitting at a table that apparently needed to be cleaned for the wait list. To make matters worse, the busser laughed and joked that we were "in trouble," to which I could only respond, "Sounds like it." Not exactly the welcoming atmosphere you'd hope for as a first time visitor. The fish fry was decent our tab came out to $150 for 5 people, but the service was absolutely subpar and our tip reflected that. We also had to send back two drink glasses because they were dirty one still had lipstick on it, and another had food stuck to the inside of the glass. Overall, this was a very disappointing dining experience. Between the unprofessional treatment, lackluster service, and cleanliness issues, I would not recommend stopping here. There are plenty of other restaurants worth trying instead.

Needless to say, it was crowded and lively, but our table was waiting for us and we were sat immediately. Our server was friendly, attentive, and very helpful with our menu choices, which were limited due to their Madi Gras-only offerings, but also plentiful and varied. My husband decided on the jambalaya, I went with the crawfish étouffée, and we split the roasted Cajun cauliflower as an appetizer. While it's hard for this kind of stew-like, saucy, veggie/sausage/seafood over rice mixtures to present beautifully, everything looked, smelled, and tasted delicious. The jambalaya had a little more of a kick than I prefer, but my husband loved it and my crawfish étouffée had the perfect amount of spice without being spicy. The roasted cauliflower was cooked to perfection and was the perfect way to start the meal. Not pictured is the bananas foster bread pudding that was the perfect way to end it. We both left with extra food to take home and the memory of a wonderful meal and great experience.

Our server was great and the manager came by while we were eating to ask how things were and see if we needed anything. Only thing with server was I did ask 3 times for more water, would have been nice if he just saw and refilled. We started with the hush puppies and meatballs. The hush puppies came with a really interesting sauce. The cheese, flavor and texture were great. The chicken meatballs were good also had a nice sauce. I got the 4pc Pressure Fried Chicken sub collard greens for Mac n cheese to share. They nicely split the meal on two separate plates for us. The fried chicken was really good with a delicious crispy breading. The biscuit and Mac n cheese were alright. The Mac n cheese was nothing special at all. The mashed potatoes and gravy were good, potato skins mixed in. Enjoyed the food and variety of options!

I should have listened to them because I went with more of a lunch/dinner type item and it wasn't made the way I asked for it. My husband also went lunch/dinner and also did not get what he asked for. Staff was frustrated and apologetic, but I didn't love the delay after a long day at work. Thankfully the second time was the charm and my bananas foster milkshake was quite good and definitely something I would recommend. A member of staff had their little one hanging around, and while I don't normally care about that, when they wandered outside and were playing a bit closer to the street than I was comfortable with, I knew it was time to go. The outdoor seating is directly on the sidewalk, so if that is not your jam, look to sit inside instead, though this did not bother me at all. Next time I come I would listen to my friends and hope for an error free breakfast item instead!
