The staff here is so friendly and helpful! I just moved into a house with two flower gardens and the cashier gave me great advice on how to clean up the flower beds and recommended a few different types of fertilizer. There is a decent selection of tools and a very large assortment of anything and everything seeds, plants, flowers, and planters. Phone service has a long oh so mellow phone message, followed by the news that it will be over an hour until someone deigns to answer so you can find out what happened to the item ordered a month ago. They never reply to email queries about orders. They charge a ton for shipping. Really, they need to get their management together. Happy that it is "employee owned" but they give the concept a bad name. Their online service is terrible. 1) They don't respond to emails. 2) Their phone support Tier 1 can't do much and will end up passing it to Tier 2. 3) The wait time is 45-1 hour despite the pandemic. 4) Waiting for a refund will take forever even though they said 2 weeks. It's a joke e-commerce team. They ship a product from a manufacturer so that takes longer. They also keep a stock for customers, so when it does get finished from backorder, they won't ship their new stock and you'll end up getting your items from the manufacturer. This is why I started going back to Amazon, who can deal with returns fast and easy. I've lost faith in this brick and mortar store. read more

Still waiting for my order of Titan Tall Tomato Cages. Reached out via email, because the hold time was too long. The response was, sorry we are order fulfillment is behind because of the large volume of orders. Let us know if you need to cancel your order. So, I waited another 10 days for a shipping notification.... nothing. This morning I called customer service and waited the 1 hour hold time. I talked with Jack, a very unconcerned customer service representative. He told me that PayPal removed the pending payment because it had taken so long to process my order and he needed payment again in order to complete my order. He was "unwilling" to expedite shipping because it would cost them too much money. This is not the first issue Ive experienced with them, but it is the first time I've received poor customer service. Love this catalog, and was super excited to visit the actual store! Employee owned business, which is cool. Huge selections of succulents, perennials, annuals, trees, garden decor, seeds, stone, & other garden accoutrements. The prices are not cheap, but the quality & selections are unparalleled. Horrible. I went to buy a Maranta which is not a cheep plant. The woman at the register was extremely rough with it. She tossed it in a pot I was going to buy them struggled to pull it out. She thrusted her fingers into the roots damaging them, she pulled at the leaves ripping and bruising them. I asked her to stop treating the plant so rough she just laughed and confined to cause damage. I started to get angry because she was ruining something I liked. I asked her if she needed help she laughed again and ripped more at the plant. She finally got it out and I complained while she looked at me as if she did not do anything wrong or heard all the times I told her to stop ruining it. I complained and she showed it to her fellow register lady, Who shrugged and said she's not marking it down. I left and did not buy the brushed plant that will look horrible in a few days. This is not a greenhouse- is a ripoff worked by people who trash what you want to buy. read more

Longacre's is the place to go for plants and shrubs suited to the local environment. In addition, they have a terrific, knowledgeable staff who in my experience willingly spend whatever time it takes to help select the best plant for your specific needs and give you great advice on planting and maintaining it. The staff are very busy at times and it is better not to go on a Saturday in May if you expect to have the best experience. In my experience with them over 30 years I've never sensed that they do not care about plants! They sponsor talks by local experts on plant care, pruning, composting, etc. Their prices are higher than at the big box stores, but the quality of everything is much higher and the variety much wider than you can find elsewhere in the Upper Valley. read more

Huge place. Every plant I've ever gotten here has died. So I don't recommend buying plants here, especially since there are several good plant nurseries in this area. However this seems to be the only place around that has a reasonable stock of outdoor landscaping material, plant pots, potting soil, etc. It may also be the only nursery open in winter. Employees are unknowledgeable and generally unhelpful. Prices are high, quality is low, and nobody seems to care about plants here. Overall this place just seems greedy to me. read more

We have purchased several plants over the years. The outdoor plants do better than indoor ones....we've had half survive. Our last issue with Longacres was the straw that broke the camel's back. My husband purchased a very small ficus tree costing over $40. I have no other indoor trees. The tree came directly from their establishment to inside our home. After a short time I noticed dark brownish black bumps on the leaves, then on the branches. After research I found this is scale which is a parasitic bug that covers itself in a wax substance and feeds off the tree. My husband called them several times and stopped in to try and remediate the problem. They would not return our money or replace the tree. The scale CAME from their establishment! Their last suggestion was to put the tree outside for 2 weeks! What? At this point the tree was infested and we tried many things and nothing worked. One of the things I was going to try was to replace all the soil and wash off all soil on the roots so we bought a large bag of potting soil from them. Like a fool I thought it was safe to open in my house. It was FULL of small flying bugs!! These bugs eat at the roots of plants! I quickly closed the bag and taped it up and my husband got it outside. Needless to say, we didn't bother contacting Longacres. The staff is not friendly, they are not knowledgeable, and won't correct their mistakes! Plants from Home Depot do better than the ones from here. Oh, and the tree...... was thrown away! Convenient location in the Upper Valley. Good selection of gardening tools and landscaping materials whether in small retail quantities or in bulk. The staff that work the plants are very knowledgable and very helpful, less so with the inside staff (friendly customer service should be paramount). I've bought many perrenials there and most have done very well in my gardens returning healthy in the spring (doesn't everyone have a few unexplained winter kills?). Good selection of trees and shrubs. Definitely more expensive than Home Depot, but quality and selection is better. read more

I have been going to Longacres Nursery for many years and have found the staff helpful and knowledgeable. Their plant stock Is huge and whatever I have bought has thrived. The 2 star review makes me wonder if the writer is in the same business!! read more
