I love Honey Field Farm as much as I've ever loved any farm. They have an incredible…read moreselection/quality of produce, flowers, hot sauce, etc.; are deeply rooted in community connection -- including with fellow farmers, local businesses, and of course their clientele; throw fantastic events; and have a truly excellent newsletter and cookbook (I have been turning to their fall harvest soup and creamy pumpkin soup recipes a lot this season!). Also, Valerie and Eli are two of the kindest, most caring people you could ever meet. I live on the west coast but have family in the northeast and try to make it to Honey Field Farm every time I'm out there. I also briefly want to respond to the one-star review: First, I want to express my deep gratitude to Eli and Valerie for voicing solidarity with Palestine and calling for an end to the genocide in Gaza. Second, I wholeheartedly believe that voicing support for Palestinians (no less, in a time of genocide) is not opposing care and support for Jews. Judaism has taught me so much about intersectional justice. One of those lessons is that our liberation is intertwined...freedom for Jews is bound up with freedom for Palestinians. I believe the messaging on the laminated sign referred to by the previous Yelp reviewer says exactly the right thing. I can understand why they feel differently, but I still wanted to take a moment to briefly explain why this visible solidarity with Palestine makes me feel even better about continuing to support Honey Field Farm ::insert heart emoji::

I appreciated the pride flag and felt safe. This year I was planning to take my kids to get a tree and our summer veggies, perennials, and annuals. But I was at the market and saw a laminated sign expressing their support for one side in the current Middle East war and desire to share their views with customers. I have spent significant time traveling the entire region and have dear friends on both sides of this conflict. I detest that one side has no political autonomy. I also detest that there people at a music festival and living in near by kibbutzim were killed, s@chalky assaulted, and or kidnapped. I met with them. Would I go to the center and see a sign that would cause me to feel emotionally unsafe by ignoring any aspect of complexity or the complicity of each side? I shared with Eli and he was gracious. But he kept the sign out. So with a broken heart, I bought my veggie plants at other shops at the market and I'll take a pass on the tree I'd wanted to buy. Couldn't they simply have added a few words of empathy for Israelis? The phrase "Bring the hostages home" would have been a comfort. It wouldn't diminish their identification unless they support hostage taking which I doubt. But I don't know. So sad.
