I lived in New Jersey for several years during my early and mid-twenties. One day, my father was driving his BMW M5 on the Garden State Parkway while I was riding in the passenger seat. Earlier in the day he had the tires replaced. While we were driving on the parkway, one of the new tires came off the BMW and my father lost control of the vehicle. The car swerved to the right and hit a guardrail. We went airborne. My side of the windshield exploded, sending broken glass everywhere. The airbag went off in my face, smashing my glasses and sending even more glass into my face. When the car finally came back down to earth it flipped over several times before landing some branches. The car was totaled from the accident, though the worst damage was on my side of vehicle. My father and I survived, but if we weren't in such a well-built car it would have probably been a different story. Surprisingly enough, a police cruiser was riding right behind us on the parkway and witnessed the entire accident. "I can't believe anyone came out of that car alive!" the police officer exclaimed while helping us out of the wreckage. He radioed an ambulance and it arrived within minutes. My accident happened around the same time that our then governor, Jon Corzine, was also involved in a car crash on the Garden State Parkway.

People who live in Jersey and travel this roadway often, will get this. It can feel very long to get to where your going. Meaning other than a few rest stops, there's basically nothing. It can get scenic the more south you head. When you reach the Pine Barrens, where the infamous episode of the Sopranos was filmed in the winter is nice. If you want to hit the ''shore" this is the road to get you there. As a kid a bunch of us would travel to Wildwood for all the major summer holidays. Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day. At one point nothing but smooth sailing, then all of sudden bumper to bumper traffic. There are express lanes but only for 22 miles, which is where I'd enter off the NJ Turnpike Exit 11. With E-Z Pass I don't know what the toll charge is, used to be 35 cents. At least I can see that toll money and our taxes are being used, the roadway is in good shape. Bottom line it's a road that if your traveling to a particular place on the coast, you would have to use. Make sure your well caffeinated, before you head out.

This road can sometimes get a bad rap ... but I've never really understood that. The GSP is one of the better maintained highway systems out there. It is far more attractive than its sister road the New Jersey Turnpike. The Garden State Parkway gets you where you want to go ... from Northern New Jersey down to Cape May. What more can you ask? Oh, and we who live along the Parkway all identify ourselves by exits... I'm exit 109! What's yours?

Decent road system. Lived in NJ for a while and used to drive this route often. Wish tools in NY and NJ were a bit more reasonable though.

Smooth toll road, yes it is often congested but that is a function of the people not the road

Although the tolls are a pain in the ass, most toll plazas have ez-pass express lanes so you don't even have to slow down.

Okay true confession here:…read more Yes I played "Woke up this morning" when I first got on Yes I got excited when I drove past the fuel tank from the opening montage with the "Drive Safely" stenciled on it. Yes I regret not getting a cigar to compete my Sopranos geek out. I entered in New York and drove the length non stop. The final damage will as like 13 dollars for the 117 miles. It was a Saturday and the traffic was not an issue. I did not stop at the rest stops or anything but found it well paved and clean. Based on my experience with the Express Lanes in California where going 4-5 miles can be almost as much, but maybe it was because of the day and time?

The road/ bridges are so unmaintained you would be better off taking a dirt road. I made one trip down to Pennsylvania for building materials and suffered multiple damages to vehicle/ cargo from potholes and bridge transitions. I alone spent over $150 in tolls. The turnpike roughly sees 1million travelers a day* roughly. That's almost $150,000,000 million dollars in revenue a day*. There is no excuse for the NJ turnpike authority to not maintain the highway.

It was also a dream to get to travel there with my close friends and for them to see Italy for the first time! Our trip was curated so thoughtfully by Anthony. The food, the wine, the places we stayed, and the people we met along the way were all wonderful. From wine tasting in Tuscany, to the private tour of the winery itself, to hiking in Elba, to spontaneously going to the Montefalco festival (we were lucky that we happened to be nearby the weekend of the festival!!)... I experienced a whole new Italy I'd never seen before, new culinary styles, new wine varietals and exquisite scenery. Anthony has a joy and passion for Italy and travel and as his guests, we felt that joy throughout the entire trip. 5-stars for sure :)

We figure just something to hold us over till later. The menu has a great selection of food, beverages and alcoholic drinks. We ordered the Triple Play which was Pretzel Dogs, Bar Burgers, and Bone-In Wings with choice of sauce or dry rub. Served with honey By our surprise the food was Amazing!! Everything was fresh and done to perfection. The burgers was juicy, the pretzel dough wrapped around the small hot dog was handmade taste like came right out oven and the chicken came right off the bone. All the food we saw coming out looked delicious and really good sized portions. We finished our dinner off with their Banana Fosters Pie dessert and we asked for a scoop of vanilla ice cream on side. It was so tasty! The ambiance is sports oriented. If don't want the bar area which is very large. You can sit away from there in the family area that has the seating that's where we sat. I can't wait to go back and try other menu selections. *to anyone whom seen my original review it may have shown only four stars, but it was meant to have FIVE STARS and it was truly an error. For me, this crossing is a huge quality-of-life upgrade when traveling between New Jersey and Staten Island. It lets me skip several painful miles of traffic on the New Jersey Turnpike, and honestly, that alone makes it worth it every single time. When traffic is backed up and crawling elsewhere, this route feels like a secret shortcut that actually works. The bridge itself is modern, clean, and well maintained. Everything about it feels updated and efficient--from the roadway to the overall flow of traffic. It's fast, smooth, and rarely feels congested compared to nearby alternatives. When you're trying to get where you're going without unnecessary stress, that makes a big difference. Tolling is straightforward, traffic moves consistently, and the entire experience feels far more streamlined than many other crossings in the area. Instead of stop-and-go frustration, you get a predictable, steady drive--which is honestly priceless during peak travel times. All in all, the Outerbridge Crossing is one of those pieces of infrastructure you really learn to appreciate once you've used it regularly. It saves time, reduces stress, and helps you avoid miles of gridlock. As far as bridges go, this one does exactly what it's supposed to do--and does it well.
