Garcia's has great food, however very expensive compared to all other Mexican cuisine in town. Bandido is delicious, but a very small portion, and to get a double is $22. They charge extra for 2 bags chips and salsa, even when ordering 6 meals. A bowl of salsa is $10. The most ridiculous part is if YOU want to pick up your own food, that you already are paying for of course, they charge you $7. To pick up your food and LEAVE. Insane. Only restaurant I've been to that does it. Will impact if we return. read more

What has happened to this place? Service has declined while the prices substantially increased. Just spent $76 on a party of 3 with nothing more complex than nachos. Waitress got all our drink orders wrong, returned 4 times to clarity our food orders (and STILL got them wrong) and disappeared. Passing through from Austin, I stopped in for dinner. So glad I chose this restaurant over Chuy's. I was greeted and seated promptly. Service was friendly and attentive. The margarita was well made and the salsa was authentic and tasty. I ordered Taco Loco tacos. Sautéed poblanos, beef and onions, served with quac, pico and tasty black beans. Delicious. The dining room is lovely with comfortable seating. If I lived in Bowling Green, I would be a regular. read more

This Mexican restaurant however is similar to every other self proclaimed authentic Mexican restaurant I've ever visited. ....Chips, salsa, similar menu, music, decor... Whenever considering a Mexican restaurant, the very first qualification should always always always be: Salsa!! Garcia's has the best salsa in town! A good dose of flavor with a bit of a kick, and not so chunky that it's too difficult to scoop with the tortilla chips. My two staples at Garcia's (and all Mexican Restaurants) are the Chicken Taco Salad and the Chef Special (Chicken, Queso, and Rice). Both dishes are fairly bland and "typical" Mexican-style dishes, but the best part about ordering them at Garcia's is getting to layer on the salsa! This is the one Mexican restaurant I frequent the most in Bowling Green. I dine in the restaurant with a standard group of friends, ranging in ages under 5 and over 40. We've never left unsatisfied or hungry... any of us! There is typically enough seating, even when we have groups over ten people. Sunday lunch is usually crowded, but we usually sit down right away (the longest I've ever waited was about twenty minutes). Not horrible considering the wait at other places around this time. This place is not good at all. They sat us and never brought us menus. After 5 minutes I got up and grabbed them myself. Another 5 minutes and the server finally came. When we asked for the bill, he took his sweet time and even stopped to talk with all the other employees conjuring at the back of the restaurant. Women's restroom was gross. The paper towels were sitting on the counter in standing water. I dried my hands on my jeans. The food. Not bad, just not good. I asked for Carne Asada tacos. The limes they gave me had no juice (you know those ones that look normal, but have nothing). I find this a serious issue at a Mexican restaurant. My BF ordered steak fajitas. Everything seemed fresh and moist. Some of the best carne asada tacos I've ever had. The meat was tender and perfectly seasoned. The onions were nicely sautéd and still had crunch to them, fresh jalapeños and pico on a corn tortilla make up one of the best tacos you'll find anywhere. The tamale was also very good but let's be honest when has a tamale ever been that bad or that great? Skip the tamale, unless you totally love them, and just order carne asada tacos. I got their veggie fajitas, which had a lot of great veggies and were cooked great. Their beans were fantastic, rice was a bit crunchy. My biggest issue was nobody on staff seemed to know what was in their food. I asked about some of their sauces being gluten free, and I think 5 or 6 people came to my table to ask what I was talking about. I eventually just asked if they used white flour to thicken up their sauces and still nobody knew if they did or not. So I went with something else. As a Hispanic I was terribly unimpressed. The sauces are all watered down. When ordering a dish with some "HEAT" they gave me bland. If you want to be a bland American who goes for a gringo version of a taco salad and margarita, knock yourself out at this joint. But I guarantee you it is far from Mexican cuisine. read more

Passing through Bowling Green visiting my brother at WKU and checked Yelp to find the best Mexican place. Garcia's was the highest rating and it did not disappoint! I went with another reviewer's recommendation and got the fish tacos. They were fresh and EXCELLENT. The side of black beans and rice were a great compliment. I had never eaten here before, but I had always heard great things about this particular Mexican restaurant, so I decided to take my girlfriend there for dinner. They weren't particularly busy, and we were seated after a short wait. They brought us menus, chips and salsa (which wasn't good at all), gave us a couple minutes, and asked us what we wanted to drink. We ordered waters and they were promptly delivered. We received no further acknowledgment from anyone who worked there, even though we could see them standing at the back, doing nothing. Ate all the chips and salsa and drank all of our water. Minus a star for an ugly, semi-gross bathroom. Maybe it's weird, but a restaurant's bathrooms need to be in tip-top shape in order for the restaurant to pull five stars out of me. The food was excellent. As Ashley S said in her review, the salsa is the perfect texture and the perfect taste. The salsa has a citrus twist to it--and usually I'm not a fan of citrus in salsa--but it's a winner at Garcia's. Yet, that's exactly what Garcia's has going for it over the competition. The food was outstanding and the plating was beautiful. Visually appealing and tasty. What else can you ask for ? The simpler items were also carefully thought out as well. Like thin crispy chips. Salsa with just the right amount of heat. And really good margaritas ! Service was top notch. Atmosphere was good. Never thought I'd find tolerable Mexican in the wilds of Kentucky, and actually managed to find several places in Bowling Green which were decent. Garcia's was probably the best of the bunch. The exterior is unassuming and you'd expect the usual 'family Mexican' (read: Americanized) fare. There's definitely a tint of that to their menu. But they do it well, with excellent fajitas, tacos, enchilades verdes, and so on. The real kicker is that for what it is, it's dirt cheap, especially at lunchtime. For a full-service place with a bar, you can get lunch for two for $15, and dinner with drinks for $30. Not bad! read more
