Called ahead, as we had 16 teenagers and 12 adults (for a musical event in town). They said sure, we can accommodate, and they did! They pushed together tables so we could all sit at one long table, service was fast, they let us all have separate checks, and all the food came out at the same time. Updating my review to say this is STILL hands down my favorite spot for Mexican food in BG! After living in Los Angeles I still crave the comfort of the chef special and the Tex Mex treat that is queso dip!! They recently renovated the space and it is gorgeous. Really has an intimate feel but still affordable. I always get my go-to but recently I tried their Mexican street corn which was a delicious veggie addition to my meal! Newly remodeled, the atmosphere is fantastic. Nice music system and even an indoor waterfall. Really pretty color scheme. Easy on the eyes. I had a ribeye for lunch and it was delicious. Perfectly cooked to medium and so was the baked potato. Hot as it should Side salad nice and crispy with the right amount of dressing. Service was quick as usual. I have consistently ordered queso with grilled jalapeños from El Maz's drive through window but my most recent visit with them has left me appalled. Because I order this often I know the price is always $6 and some change for a large. (My credit card history shows this charge several times) Yet when I went to the window they charged me $10 citing that it was for a small queso and a side of jalapeños. I wasn't that concerned with the price change, but when I saw the size of queso I paid for I told them I paid for a large and they accidentally gave me a small. Since the waitress at the window was new she got the manager and he was the most condescending, rude, and worst customer representative of an establishment I've ever encountered. I explained that the price was typically much less for a larger size and he told me they charged me $4 for queso and $6 for a side of jalapeños. I explained that the jalapeños are typically mixed in the queso and He said he did not typically work at the location on Nashville road and tried calling another manager for guidance (which let me know he really didn't know the true cost or procedure of how to ring up the order). From there he turned so nasty and rude. Speaking in Spanish about us to another person (but I SPEAK Spanish). Then he tried to take my queso and pretend to give me the larger size, but told me I'd have to pay more to get the larger size. Honestly all of this is not about $10 for some queso, it's about a restaurant myself and my family frequent often treating me so poorly. You have lost a faithful customer. read more

Loved the ambience when we walked into this place. This was our second time there since November, when my brother-in-law was visiting and he wanted Mexican food. I ordered a large Watermelon Margarita frozen. It was very delicious and full of tequila, my daughter got a virgin. Piña colada and my husband ordered a Modelo beer. We were greeted as soon as we walked in the door, seated, and our drink order was taken. The waitress came right back with chips and salsa. That were very good. I love the salsa there and our drinks. My husband had the Burroto Mexicano I had a chicken chimichanga, and my daughter had seasoned steak plate. I could not believe the size of the burrito. My husband got it took up the whole plate and he said it was delicious. I tried it and the seasoning in the meat was so delicious.!!!! I always order a chimichanga and it was delicious. I couldn't even finish it and my daughter said her food was super deliciously seasoned also. For all this food and the drinks with tip we spent about $60!!!! As a pescatarian, I usually don't recommend Mexican restaurants. The shrimp lettuce wraps at El Mazatlan changed my mind. Absolutely excellent! My husband, the carnivore, loved the giant- like maybe 10-12 inches long - steak burrito! Awesome restaurant with very friendly and extremely polite staff. I am a huge fan of El Maz. We are regular customers sometimes as much as twice a week. I have tried just about everything on the menu and for most everything I can get five stars. We went in Sunday night and I decided to try something new as I often do. Maybe this is a dish And I just didn't like it I ordered Especial El Mazatlan. When it came out, I was excited. It looked great. They did get my side order wrong when they brought it back it was on a cold plate and cold which didn't make me happy but oh well. This dish looks very much like the fajitas would. The problem I had with it is there was absolutely no flavor on anything except for the chorizo. The chicken steak shrimp may have well been boiled. That was the taste. Simply tasteless no salt no pepper. No seasoning at all. Maybe this dish is supposed to come like that. And if that's the case, don't order this because it's not good. read more

We order from this franchise a lot, we LOVE the one on the 31 bypass. I order the same thing every time which is the California burrito, it had no beans. I wasn't going to complain because our server was good! But then when I called for a manager to point out no beans, and I mean no beans it was dry as H***!! I cut it open to be correct no beans and some of the grease from the chicken was on the tortilla, manager tried pointing out a small amount of moister as beans. Unprofessional and rude, will never come back to this location again. Beautiful scenery terrible service. Update* were still charged for the Cheese dip and burrito that you see the hairs in. I'm giving El Maz a 5 star rating on their ribeye steak! I cannot eat Mexican food due to food and spice intolerances, so I typically bring something with me from somewhere else or try the kids menu. We had eaten here a few months back with our children and I tried the steak then and liked it. I ordered it thru Doordash and it arrived cooked to perfection, baked potato was perfect as well as the veggies. First I must say that I'm absolutely shocked with the current 4-5 star ratings, I feel 2 stars is being very fair. We were in bowling green and for my younger brothers graduation and this place was recommended. First impression - very standard Mexican restaurant, but had like pop out sea art on the walls, dolphins and such. Kind of odd. We were seated right away, surprised there wasn't a wait considering several graduates were out, and we had a party of 15 Food - The salsa was very watery, the queso was cold (both of them) and the meals were just processed artificial, slightly above fast food. The portions were actually a decent size and I was able to share with someone and have plenty to eat. Service / Hospitality - the service was my very very least favorite thing about here. We had a party of 15 and I've been a server so I feel like my perception is very generous. We sat they took our drink order and and drinks came out daily quickly, however it would be just one drink. Not a single refill, and I asked our server and one other server, since our server was very hard to find. I get that people get busy but this place was not that busy. In addition to not getting refills, no napkins when asked, I had to get up and get an extra set of silverware. Our server came to our table 2 times that I can remember; once to take our order, and once to bring our checks. And it wasn't just our server, none of the staff is friendly at all. Everything about my visit was the WORST. The music was tasteless loud pop, not even Latin at all and not good for a eating environment. The prices were not great. I ordered a chili rellano and taco plate but I could not tell the difference between any of the supposedly food objects on my plate because they all lacked any flavor at all. The seeds were even 100% removed from the pepper so it really wasn't a chili rellano at all. The filling tasted like heavy cream and it had the consistency of cold gravy. The taco was flavorless. The beans were bland. If anything else on the plate had a shred of flavor or spice I could dismiss that. The best part of the plate was a lump of shredded lettuce with a splat for guacamole on it. The chips were OK but the Salsa was essentially canned tomato sauce. This is the first place we had to leave no tip and I have always left a tip even at places we didn't really like. We ordered a plate with out dairy and it came loaded with tons of cheese and some drippy cream stuff. We explained it was because of a food allergy and they took it back and scraped it off and brought it back. We asked for the check and it didn't come. We were essentially being held hostage because if we had left we would have gotten a dine and dash charge. We asked multiple times and did not even get a response. We finally went to the front of the restaurant and explained to a third worker that we had to leave and nobody could figure out what we had ordered. Nobody cared. Too much work on the interior design too little work on the training of staff and customer care. I could literally type 10000 more words on this visit alone but I'm a busy man. Take my word for it the food is dumbed down for people who hate flavor and don't expect good service. read more
