After years of looking for a mechanic and only taking my Subaru to the dealership for all repairs…read moreor maintenance over the life of the car (8 years), I decided to take a chance here. I had a great experience with Alex at Value Auto Repair. I originally reached out through Yelp, and he was responsive and answered all of my questions. His pricing was significantly better than what the dealership quoted me, but what really stood out wasn't just the price--it was his honesty. I came in with a humming noise that I believed was a bad wheel bearing but was unsure. Alex was upfront from the beginning after making the same diagnosis and even encouraged me to get quotes from other mechanics if it made me feel more comfortable so I could make sure I was getting a fair deal. That kind of confidence and transparency is hard to find. When I arrived, he was able to get my car in within about 30 minutes to diagnose it. While the part was being delivered, I went to lunch, and once I came back, he had the wheel bearing replaced in about 45 minutes. Before I left, he took the time to show me both the old and new wheel bearings, explaining how they worked and letting me hear and feel the difference. I really appreciated him taking the time to educate me instead of just handing me a bill. One thing I noticed while I was waiting was how many customers came in who clearly knew Alex. Everyone seemed genuinely happy to see him, several appeared to be repeat customers, and there was an obvious level of trust between them. After my own experience, I completely understand why. Alex also has a great sense of humor, which made the whole experience much less stressful. Most importantly, the humming noise is completely gone, and my car drives perfectly again. If you're looking for an honest, knowledgeable mechanic who charges fair prices and genuinely cares about his customers, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Alex and Value Auto Repair. I know I'll definitely be back.

The prices are competitive, but the trustworthiness is superior. This a great company.

After having the car for a little over a month and living here in San Diego it's been hot lately but there was a random day that it rained. We that said I turned on my wipers and they did not work. Long story short Audi was telling because it's passed 30 days of purchasing my car I did not have coverage guantee for that anymore. Which led me to coming here! Memo was very straight forward and when I explained my situation he knew it was going to be somewhat of an easy fix! Well after leaving my car upon my return, I come to find out the defuse just needed to be reset. Although I didn't really get any service done here, I appreciate the crew for looking at my car and realizing it was an easy fix! Moving forward I will definitely come back for any future services. I thought I got screwed buying a used car from an older guy who seemed legit. I paid $2,300 in…read morecash, got a clean title, and was told all it needed was a CV axle. I figured I could handle that since I was tight on cash, and the repair wouldn't go over $500. After a quick test drive around the block--where I did hear some clicking, but it didn't sound too bad--I decided to buy it. On my 20-mile drive home, that clicking sound started raising doubts. It didn't seem like just a CV axle issue anymore, though I couldn't quite figure out what it was. The engine and transmission were running great, so I thought it had to be something simple, right? I took it to a highly-rated local shop, and they diagnosed the problem as the front differential or transmission (it's an AWD vehicle). Unfortunately, they said they don't work on transmissions. Well, FML. Next, I took it to a well-recommended transmission shop. After a few days, they confirmed the same issue and gave me a rough estimate of $1,900 to $2,500 for a used replacement. No rebuilt or new parts were available. FMLx2. I then brought it to my go-to guy, who's great at swapping parts and doing some diagnostics. He said he could handle the repair for $1,200, including sourcing a used part. But after two weeks of searching, he had no luck. FMLx3. At this point, I did my own research and decided if I could stay under $2,500, the repair would be worth it based on the car's value. I posted a project on Yelp to solicit bids from local shops. That's when Memo from AAMCO reached out. I was hesitant at first, but AAMCO has been around forever, and Memo seemed legit. I figured they'd either be the most expensive or the most reasonable since they specialize in transmissions. I checked reviews on Google and Yelp, and they looked good, so I decided to give Memo a shot. I dropped by to talk to him, and he was great--super communicative and really listened to my situation. I left the car with him, and the next day, I got a call. Of course, the repair exceeded my $2,500 budget. Same diagnosis: front differential/transmission replacement with a used unit. The estimate was $2,800, but they'd thoroughly inspect the replacement to ensure it was good. So close, but still over budget. I told him I'd call back. I was ready to schedule the car for auction and cut my losses, but something in my gut told me the car was worth saving. I called Memo back and asked if he could do it for $2,700. After some discussion, he agreed to work with me. Two days later, the car was ready. Memo had a surprise for me--the replacement transmission came with a new mount, and they managed to bring the total cost just under $2,600, nearly at my budget. THAT is honesty and integrity. I've been driving the car, and it feels exactly how a 20-year-old car in great shape should. No more clicking noises, and it's running beautifully. Since AAMCO handles other types of repairs, Memo and his team have officially become my go-to shop. I highly recommend seeing Memo at AAMCO if you need reliable, trustworthy service.

Surprise $$$$ John's Automotive Up-charged me once I arrived. I walked out. Shame on these guys…read more They'll take you over the coals with Upcharges and work you don't need unless you do what I did, and that is to walk out and bring my business to an honest shop. I had no idea this was the same people as I had got a [crazy, inaccurate] quote from in 2018. I was quoted over the phone that a complete diagnosis would be $109. They had the make and model, knew it was a truck so should be no surprises when I walk in. RIGHT? wrong. "We like to get paid for our time"; dude at the counter. Then don't misquote customers in the first place. His excuse was, "well, we have to check the back of the truck too". Lame. Posted: are the two quotes for a diagnosis, one from John's and the next from a shop that I won't share here, where my truck is currently being serviced. Further, let's go back a bit in history. In April of 2018 I visited John's location on Riverdale in Grantville. My truck had registered a check engine, which turned up regarding emissions. What did "Johns" say and quote me? " Well, Toyota Tundras have four catalytic converters so you are looking at $3,270. out the door, you need to replace these, then you'll pass smog, clear emissions ". Problem: they got it way wrong: the 2000 Toyota Tundras have TWO catalytic converters mister grifters. After that B.S. I left. [2007s - present have four converters, so ketchup Bubs!] Next, I left and went to "Cardiego" on Adams Avenue. The owner checked the emissions signal and said, " all you need is your drive cycle reset. One hour later and $90. dollars later the work was done, truck passed smog and no more emissions issue. It was my mistake that I had no idea that this same outfit had a second garage in La Mesa, had no idea I was walking into the same line of talk and walk. I expect that the owner Mr. Joan will comment here something like this, " I am sorry you seemed to have this experience, because we don't have a record of you in our system " hmmmm... My response [following my laughter] is this: on 4/27 your computer generated the quote that I have posted here. It generated the information you had on my vehicle back in 2018 because you have my old plate number of 6E71244. So Jon, don't try to tell me you never had me in the "system" because if you had not noticed, I now have personalized plates, I haven't had the 6E7... plates for a while now. To be clear: my Tundra is the best year that was produced, it has been cared for only with master techs, and runs perfectly. Word to the wise: My recommendation is to go elsewhere to take care of your auto. **My truck needed the lower front ball joint replacement in the front only. The shop I went to even took out the $57. diag charge since I had the work done with them. It is silent and smooth as usual. There was no noise in the back and a quote on a diagnosis means you quoted me on a diagnosis of the entire vehicle. Bogus, no: I never "authorized" more diagnosis work. Just a foolish response below.

Luis and his team at Colima provided excellent service and an excellent result with my car!…read more I was nervous traveling to Mexico for car work, but this shop does similar, maybe better work than the best in California. When you meet Luis, you'll get the impression that he's a honest businessman and that proved to be true. Luis was responsive and always had answers to my questions, he always was open and explained why he was doing certain things. He responded whenever I messaged him. The shop did very good work on my car. It looks brand new now. They fixed a piece of siding, some window parts, my door and trunk latches, they painted parts and fix things on my behalf that I was not even expecting them to do. They finished earlier than I expected. They finished with an extremely good paint job with no problems or hiccups. They were cleaning parts of my car and my tires when I arrived. They asked me questions and provided me with exactly the services that I wanted. I am going to recommend Luis and his team to my friends and family and anyone else. Excellent and recommended experience!

If you are thinking to have your car painted here, Read this review first…read more The crux of my issue with them: Dishonesty and complete lack of accountability. I brought my Honda Fit here for a full repaint. I was really excited because of all the other reviews. Luis (the owner) and I had spoken for a few weeks via chat and phone calls over Whatsapp. He genuinely seemed like a good guy who does quality work. We agreed on a price and i drove from LA to Tijuana to drop the car off. No issues on drop off Returning 2 weeks later for pickup. I noticed a few things - Pillar trim around the door was loosely connected and clearcoat on the bumper was dried into a clump. They sanded the clumped up clearcoat and buffed it on the spot, kind of shocking to see but seemed to be ok. The trim they just kind of readjusted it and it fit more snug into place -- I didnt think anything of it until it flew off on the drive home to LA! Thats when i really inspected what was happening with the trim around the whole car. Colima had actually broken most of the pieces of trim on the door and glued them back on, NO they didnt tell me. In fact, Luis only came out with this once we spoke on the phone and i told him all the cars door trim was loose and covered with glue. He blamed his workers for breaking the plastic trim and his solution was to use glue to try and permanently glue these pieces to the steel frame. To be clear, Luis had ZERO intention of telling me anything. It was only after I called him that he told me anything. He then offered to buy me new pieces of trim and mail them to me. I thought OK, this is a workable solution. The only issue is - He Never Sent Them. Over the course of 4 months, I texted and called him 5 times and he told me over and over - Sorry its been a busy week, Ill send later this week. Guess what? Never came, no call no text, nothing. Every time I'd follow up, he'd tell me " This Week I Promise" These are pieces that cost $300 in the US (and thats from EBay) probably much higher from the dealer. On my final attempt with Luis, I offered to pay the shipping or send him a label (That would still be worth it to me) but not even that worked. He still blew me off So does he do quality work (apart from breaking things on your car and then hiding it) ? The answer is only time will tell. the paint looks like a new paint job now, but my concern is they are not honest people so who knows what kind of paint they used on my car and it very well may start peeling off in a year.. We agreed on factory quality paint but seeing how he handled this whole situation with the trim, I would NEVER trust them with another car. I would have been a lifelong customer and he screwed me over a few pieces of plastic trim. Its just unfathomable how anyone would run a business like this. Anyway, thats my 2 cents. Bring your car here at your own peril. The price seems great, but its really not if they break your car in the process
