It's a VERY scary place to be in the dark about. You don't want to gamble with construction on your house. However, I was quite fortunate to find Dove Ceilings on my own. I used to work at a local advertising magazine and knew the company from their ad, but didn't know whether or not they would be good. Well friends, they are. First of all...this company mainly specializes in acoustic (popcorn) removal. Reversing the awful awful tread of the 70's & 80's has yielded multiple businesses doing nothing but popcorn removal. I have nightmare visions of construction workers listening to the beegee's and michael jackson while blasting that white goo all willy nilly on every ceiling surface imaginable. "MORE TEXTURE!" the lead contractor yells while throwing up his Saturday Night Fever gesture. You like that visual? I sure do :D Anyway, the people of today are left with the burden of reversing that popular -and lazy- process of "finishing" ceilings. It's super easy to remove...and my sister and I did my entire house (with a vaulted ceiling) in roughly 10 hours. But then you are left with smooth, unfinished ceilings, and making them look nice is really a job for the professionals, IMO. Enter Dove Ceilings. I got 3 different quotes for the job (to texture and paint the ceilings), which is what anyone would do. But it was Scott, the owner of Dove Ceilings, who won me over. He came over to give a free estimate and was right on time. He is professional and straight-forward, has one of those nifty zappers that instantly measure walls and created a quote right then and there based on the size/amount of the walls needing work. It's all up front. But I think what really won me over was the how he discussed the process. I was told every detail of what his crew does for the job: Covering all the floors with 2 layers of plastic (as well as the walls), repairing all ceiling damage (removing old tape, etc), caulking all the edges of the ceiling and holes, finishing with sprayed paint...I was really impressed and gained confidence they would do a great job. It's not like a 'wam bam thank you ma'am' process. They make sure it's done RIGHT and done WELL. And Scott was really sincere and non-abrasive in his selling technique. It was basically, here's the price, this is what we'd do, and we'll be done in 3 days (1 day gap for drying time) and it will look like we were never there...He even brings a sample box showing how the ceiling texture will look, and the 2 color choices of white they offer. My ceilings came out phenomenal. Scott even requested his crew to assist in hanging lights (I had bought new ceiling light fixtures). PLUS, he had called the day before starting to confirm the job (and it was Sunday), kept me in the loop the entire process, and answered my calls EVERY single time (I didn't have to leave a message once). Really impressed and would highly recommend for ceiling resurfacing and painting - they offer wall painting as well, and I think even do recessed lighting (but don't quote that). The business is located up north (Temecula I think) but serve all of San Diego...which is why I'm adding a new entry to the database. There are a lot of choices out there for this kind of work but not all ceilings are created equal. Hire Dove Ceilings and you know you will have a great outcome.

Scheduling was difficult, missed appointments and showing up late. When they finally arrived to actually do the work, they didn't have the proper equipment for it and they left for hours never to return. A few days later they came back to start and I was told that they need to bring another person to help get the job done and there would be extra cost. I agreed to pay more and it was changed to a flat rate at that point. They completed half the job and ran out of materials (supplied to them). I paid them 50% of the amount as half the work was done. Within two days I scheduled again to have them come and finish the job. And 20 minutes before they are set to arrive, they said the pricing will change again if I want the job done. This is unacceptable by any standard. Even though the flat rate quote was within $10 of what others have quoted on Yelp, I gave them a chance with no reviews on Yelp and that's a mistake. Now I have an unfinished job that I need to bring another company to finish. I would not recommend the business due to the following reasons. 1. Providing an inaccurate quote based on a site inspection (not just photos) 2. Missed appointments and delays 3. Not having the proper equipment to start the job even though the site visit should have made it clear 4. Changing the quoted price mid way, not once but twice If these challenges are no big deal to you, then go ahead and hire them.
