Plenty of barbers to choose from - the catch is, most are old and are average. it's usually a hit or miss. It took me at least 3-4 barbers to my preference and liking. Regular haircuts are $15 is the reason I keep coming back. Everyone is friendly and accommodating, which is another reason I keep bringing back my boys to get their "ears lowered." They also have a female barber which my daughter prefers instead of going to a salon. Coming to this place is like walking into the old barbers shops back in the 90's and the vibe is always positive and cool. Closed. Just a sign, written in pencil, on the window saying "we'll be closed tomorrow in observance of the holiday". Like all of us drove by yesterday to know if they'll be open today. But meanwhile all the lights are on so I should waste my time coming here. Either way, it was a last resort to come here again; they are like a car wash operation for haircuts; like 12 chairs no waiting. Who knows why they are even closed. I'm aware that many barbers in this area are Russian Jewish people. I myself happen to be Jewish as well. Mixed experiences at Gappys Barber Shop in Levittown NY. Cost efficient for a hair cut and shave. Depends who you get and how they are feeling that day. Alex has done a clean cut and shave ,this last visit left husbands skin all red with with what looked like a few nicks on the neck, either cuts or pinched from an electric raider. Let me start by saying, how disgusted I am at this place. I took my three year old son here: THREE YEARS OLD, and he is scared of the buzzer. The entire time he screamed and went it came to the scissors he moves a little bit he will stop. Well they refused to do the scissors, not only that? They didn't even finish his hair cut and charged me FULL price for one. How dare they. The manager here spoke to me like I was a horrible person and the kid who did the hair cut made me feel like I was dumb for not understanding. The eastern European barbers in this establishment always give haircuts the way they want without listening to the customer. They also use hair thinning scissors, which I am told, can mess up one's hair for months-- if not years. I always tell them I want to grow my hair long in the back, but they always scalp it anyway. I have even told them not to touch the back of my hair, as "I want to grow a ponytail," but they still buzz it back to my cerebellum (I believe it is known as a taper fade cut - see photo). They have improved in their use of barbercide since Covid. Prior, the eastern European employees never seemed to dip their scissors into the germ killer. Hopefully I never picked-up another customer's head maladies. The establishment seems to cater primarily to male senior citizens (i.e. old codgers) and the younger local lumpen residents that prefer buzz cuts. I prefer the American female barbers (Gail and Donna). They follow directives, unlike the others, and they usually give decent cuts. read more

I went to gappys for the first time today and was very pleased. There were a ton of barbers and even though there were a lot of people waiting for a cut it was less than a 5 minute wait. My barber was Boris and he cut my hair exactly how i wanted. This pricing of this place is incredible. They feature comparable prices to the 90's with a $10 haircut. Unfortunately the decor is probably also from the 90's and quite run down. I have no problem with this as you get a quality cut for not a lot of money. My dad (senior citizen) has been going her for over two years...last time he went, the barber cut his too short...pretty much took the clippers and gave him a buzz top, bottom, side. It's time for dad to get a cut again, so he asks me to take him back - he said - "place is nice, just got the wrong barber" ... fair enough, we've all been there so, I take him ... dad specifically asks to wait for George (short older guy, with a mustache). Dad sits in his chair and before my dad could tell him how he wants his hair cut - George takes the buzzer to my dads head - my dad reacted by moving his head away from the clippers because that's what he didn't want all over again... I got a little protective of my dad and sternly told George "hey, listen to what and how my dad wants his hair cut" ... George did what he wanted, he cut dad's hair with no patience, haphazardly with no care and tenderness. He was extremely rude, didn't listen to clients extremely unprofessional. He just wanted to finish the cut quick and get another poor sap in his chair so he can just make money. Disgraceful. I stopped by one day to get a quick chop!!! The moment I arrived I was seated! The style that I typically have is messy spikes!! The lady said she didn't feel comfortable doing it; I said I understand it's hair it will grow back I mentioned it's kinda like a Mohawk!! The owner Gappy went on to say it's a Mohawk he's trusting you! I emphasized don't worry it will grow back! She was doing an awesome job everything was looking great!! I've come here or at least attempted to get a cut here twice... Each time I would wait as instructed. With both visits people would just walk in and take a chair without waiting or even losing stride. After my second visit and 10 people walking in and getting seated right away, I almost snapped and made a scene but kept my cool and just left. I asked for a light trim on top that was about 4" in length and # 2 on sides. What i got was a buzz cut and now i need to wait a a couple of months to get my hair back. I'm not going to give this review more than 2 because I hate coming in here and having the price change each and every time. I'm usually charged $8. Today was 10. Gappys keeps changing the price and does not have a set price. Each time Gappys raises the price, the tip goes down. (Sorry to the barbers ) Although the guy who did my hair today was very nice, he was also very talkative. Tried me to talk to him like we were best friends. I usually don't like to talk to those I do not know. He got too personal (asking my age, marital status, where I work and what I do). I always get a good haircut and a very price. This place also sells lotto. The parking lot always has spots so it's easy getting in and getting out.
