On 12/21/2017 I visited "The GAP" @Grapevine Mills Mall in Grapevine Texas. My husband & I were shopping in your Gap Outlet. There were 3 other ladies at the sale table too. They had signs sitting on their display tables that clearly said "take an additional 50% off lowest ticketed price". We did not know these other ladies however, we all had been going thru these amazingly priced items commenting on how happy we were to get this sale for Christmas. My husband went to a young Hispanic lady who worked there and inquired about a price on an item (which had no price on it) and she quoted a rather high price for what was on the table. Two of the ladies that were also shopping here, questioned her about the 50%off (since it was on this particular table) long story short, this person said she was the store mgr & literally told the group of customers that we could "either buy the items or get out", she "could really care less". Now up till this point not one person had raised their voices, spouted negative statements or anything toward her or her Gap staff. It literally came out of nowhere. When she said that, I spoke up and asked her name/title- for which she refused. I asked to speak to her boss-she said she was the boss. At this point I'm getting extremely frustrated- I'm certain that this behavior is completely opposite of how The Gap Co. would expect from their team members. Someone commented that they would just send her pic to home office so that home office could be certain that they retrain the correct team member. She grabbed clothing from the table, placed it over her face and ran to the back of the store. Then a young man came up to my husband and I, to "keep us from taking her photo". He stated he was the General Manager" Gabriel. I then spoke to him and had given him an overview of our experience with the young lady. He told us if we didn't like it we could leave. Not once did he attempt to diffuse the situation, apologize for the experience or for our confusion with the way they had set up their sale tables or anything. I told him that I was going to forward my concerns & frustration/confusion with his staff & store to his home office.
We always shop @ our local "The Gap & Old Navy" stores and have NEVER encountered such unprofessional staff or experiences. Even if the ladies questioning her were wrong with their inquiries, she should have simply apologized for our confusion and told us she would get with her mgr and see what they could do to correct that table. Had she said that, it would have ended there. But when she told the entire group to buy it + leave? Then grabbing clothing and covered her face?? I had already inquired with another young lady there about a price on an item. She was very friendly and professional (sorry she also refused her name after the confrontation- red hair caucasian girl). I thought maybe the mgr had felt ganged up on since there were 4 of us asking about the sale, however the lady that did the talking never raised her voice to the worker, never seemed argumentative or anything. She asked about the prices... Then another lady spoke in and showed her that the sign said 50% off that maybe they should make that more clear..that literally was it. Not only will I NEVER SHOP AT THE GAP or OLD NAVY EVER AGAIN I am placing a Yelp Review and I am writing to Customer Service in New York/San Francisco. These stores are ran under a particular COBC (code of business conduct) that serves as their ethical compass that mandates their staff to ALWAYS do whats right for their customers and stakeholders. I'm certain that this behavior is not how they are trained nor expected to respond. Such unprofessional staffing and uncertain pricing techniques would NOT fall under ethical! We all put down our purchases and left the store. I don't know the other ladies so I can't speak for them but I am now sending a letter to New York and San Francisco offices. I expect that they will be visiting this stores COBC common practices. I hope someone in upper management will go in and re-train this entire store in their ethical professional practices as they have completely ignored this portion of their training. "Do what's right"... was swept under the rug in this store. I am including a copy of the picture of the store manager since np name was given. (I am also asking that they please forward my letter to all involved). read more
