Oh yeah, this is one f*cking awesome food truck!…read more Today I sampled both the southern-style chicken and slaw bun with pickles, onion rings and ranch, as well as the Texas pulled pork and slaw bun with BBQ corn and BB pickles. (both $9) In a word? YUM-AZING. To top it off, they have *cherry* Dr. Pepper in the fridge. These guys literally cannot get any damn better! The truck shows up in various spots around the CBD for lunchtime, so check their FB page for where they're going to be on a given day. They usually announce it the night before, along with the menu items they'll be serving.

There's usually only 2 or 3 choices served each time the Van is on the road. You get to choose from some of the following tasty treats: Toasted Rueben, Texas Pulled Pork Roll, Pastrami on Rye, Cajun Prawn Po Boy, Beef Debris Po Boy, Philly Cheese Steak, Southern Fried Chicken Bun or even a Salad and of course the always present Deep Fried Pickles The home made Slaw is an excellent add on the great tasting meats used and even a BBQ Corn Cob that comes with the Pulled Pork Roll adds an extra something. The flavours are just great and at a decent price. To top it all off the owner/staff in the Van are great, going out of their way to remember their regulars. a real nice touch.

Concept - 20 food vans get together and offer up food over lunch time in Vic Square Implementation - It was more than just a gathering of trucks. It was the vibe of the thing, it was Mabo, it was trucking brilliant. Never have I seen so many high quality food vans in the one location all with line ups of Adelaidians waiting for some grub or a thirst quencher. From Raw Thirst to Burger Theory, La Cantina to Fair Espresso, Four Seeds and TacoCat and boys on bikes Smoothie Revolution and Veggie Velo there was something for everyone at this event and probably why half of Adelaide was in attendance. Tips to make the most of being forked? - Get there early or late (lines were long from 12:30pm-2:30pm) - If you don't like lines, shut the truck up and wait your turn. Fork is awesome. - Pace yourself and get a tasting of more than one thing - Enjoy lounging about in deck chairs or BYO picnic rug and make an arvo of it. Fork On The Road takes advantage of the following of 1 or 2 famous food vans and spreading the love to many - recognising we can all live and eat as one in Adelaide. Follow their twitter @ForkOnTheRoad and BookFace them to find out details about the next one on the 21st December!

The menu on that day was: Buffalo wings, Thai style scotch egg with brown rice and herb salad, Spicy KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) Burger and also some fries. I have to say their buffalo wings are the best I have had, it's covered with beautiful sauces but not over salty or make you think the sauce is too much. It perfectly combined with the fried chicken wings underneath, you can taste crispy and succulent in one bite. The blue cheese dipping also make the flavour up to a higher level, I had blue cheese once and hated it, but this dipping sauce is in an completely opposite end, the taste is so creamy and milky without any unpleasant sense, it adds the extra taste to the wings when you feel a little bored about them, the celery that come along with did the job too. Like the first review this food van received said, 'very moreish'. I agree, it even made me think of return to the next day of the sweet tooth market only for that and give up the sunday Fork on the Road which I already planned (well now I can see I'm tracing with food) But glad to see those girls choose to join the Fork on the Road the next day, but unfortunately, the two popular staff gone so quick when my friend and I want to 'moreish' back to the buffalo wings and try the KFC burger, so we tried their Thai style scotch egg with salad, the eggs are being covered into an extra layer and deep fried, but I like the brown rice and herb salad on the side, it's a asian style salad with cilantro and peanuts which reminds me of some home dishes and it's a pleasant surprise. Doesn't like Sneaky pickles or Delectballs, this 'naughty girl' does't have a regular timetable on streets but show up in different events, which makes it more attractive because you'll always think of it but can't always get it Lol, what a proud beauty!

I also found out recently that they do private catering! Good one to keep in mind.

Being new to the Food Truck Business and in such a busy place the services was a little slow. .. BUT... worth it. The Yucca (cassava) Chips were light and tasty served up with a little pot of salsa that made them even better. Then the burger, chicken pieces cooked in a South American mix of spices and CHOCOLATE served with some crisp lettuce. YUMMM is all I can say. They also usually have a vegetarian option. Personal hang-ups aside, I did try La Chiva at the Adelaide Night Market and I was pleasantly surprised. As is key with food trucks, they give friendly service, and as a nice point of difference they take your name as Señor/Señora ___ when you order, eg Señor Oscar. I ordered the Chivita de Chorizo with a side of Yucas (cassava fries) and I was pleasantly surprised (here I'll mention another hang-up; I don't often like burgers). The flavours worked really well together and no particular ingredient overpowered the others. The freshness of their ingredients is evident in the final product too, which is always nice. They have three menu options (plus the side of Yucas), including a vegetarian and gluten free option. The vegetarian option does have cheese but I'm sure vegans can request it be left out. After my experience I'm less reticent in trying some of the other Americas style food trucks and eateries around Adelaide and I have already recommended La Chiva to friends.

La Cantina's menu is hardly easy to describe nor did I know half of the ingredients featured in each soft taco but when meat is described to you as "smoked" or "spiced" I'm already ordering 4. This bright orange truck has been very prevalent on weekdays throughout the city, serving up soft tacos only to the public at $5 each or $9 for 2. You can follow them on Twitter or Facebook for locations each day. They seem to have made friends with Raw Thirst and Burger Theory so be prepared to make a difficult choice if they are also around on the day. Arguably I couldn't choose and justified that having a Raw Thirst Alkaliser Juice meant I could have a not so healthy taco for lunch. I chose the Vegetarian (Zucchini, Mushroom and Corriander) and Smoked Chicken with Pico de Gallo, Sour Cream and Corriander). I didn't make friends with salad that day as I found the Vegetarian to lack a certain kick - great if you don't like spicy food. This is probably also because the Smoked Chicken overpowered every bite of my Vegetarian taco with so much oomph, spice and smokiness that I was shouting "arriba, arriba, underlay, underlay," from the food truck! Note: If you have any kind of appetite you will want 2, maybe 4 tacos as they are only served half size. The service is fantastic and quick with a wonderful little crew happily cooking away in the truck. Unfortunately the van seems to have come from the 1980's and continuously pumps out petrol fumes while you're waiting for your food. It's a shame because I'm sure the smell from the cooked meats would be shining through if this wasn't the case.

But now they're out on the streets selling tacos & Mexican sodas at spots all over Adelaide. I'm out of the city Monday-Friday for most of the day, which means it's pretty hard for me to chase these guys down. But thankfully a Friday morning city commitment meant I could pop down to see them. At the time there were 3 taco options available, beef, pork, & vegetarian. They're $5 each or 2 for $9, which is a pretty reasonable deal and in line with most fixed place Cantinas in Adelaide. I enjoyed both of mine (the beef with black beans, & the mushroom and zucchini). My only complaint would be that I felt there was a bit too much going on with them. I would have loved some more defined flavours. They were nice to eat, but they didn't blow my mind. Their truck is bright and colourful, easy to spot, so keep an eye out. They're definitely worth trying, and I'm sure they'll just get better over time. If you buy a Mexican soda make sure you have a bottle opener or get them to open it for you, these aren't screw tops.
