I would give this store 0 Stars if I could.
I usually find local game shops to be like a nerd's barbershop. Go to talk, play, have fun, etc.
As a card game player, I have played multiple games and visited tons venues throughout my time. Imagine how ecstatic I was when I used YuGiOh's Official Tournament Store locator and saw "Gamez and More" was about 10 minutes away?
I saw the pictures online showed a lot of Star Wars figures, some figurines (Warhammer maybe?), and Magic. I didn't see much YuGiOh aside from a sizeable Kaiba poster... So I emailed the shop to ask online. They, an official YuGiOh store, answered:
"We've tried it in the past and got burned by the game. Had players interested, we invested over 1k in the product and didn't see players come back to purchase. Even now, players come in, ask if we carry YuGiOh and we say we can order boosters in or we'll say, if you guys come and purchase or play here we'll carry your product. But I get no response and no feedback. Can't reinvest into a game unless I know it's going to be purchased. We recently purchased a couple booster, players came, told them we had boosters, no one purchased them. If no product can be sold, there's no reason to carry the game or do events. We always try to cater to everyone. "
This should have been a red flag, but I thought this might just be some "Magic only" guy or a newbie at the shop saying this stuff. Yet, I responded anyway because I wanted to be the guy that gave them feedback. I responded, suggesting to maybe ask the Facebook "YuGiOh Minnesota" group if anyone lived in Rochester and wanted to play. Surely I couldn't be the only one. Maybe they got a poor-selling expansion set or something and wanted players to buy an unpopular product. I gave my suggestions, but I ultimately resolved to go in person before I judged the shop based off my poor online experience.
My wife and I went in. We looked around the store. After some time, we went to the counter to ask for packs. None. They explained they had a decent deal on Force of Will packs and waved me to their singular box of YuGiOh bulk. I tried to make conversation about YuGiOh, but I got told about how YuGiOh players don't by product and how great their Magic Tournament is. Then, the store owner continues going on and on about how it's pointless to support other card games because they "don't help pay the bills for a LGS". I asked how much it would be if I bought a box right now. Store owner couldn't come up with an answer, so I said "As long as it's a decent price, people will buy product from you." He replied with "Nah, decent prices won't keep a LGS open....". Asked about buying a case of the new YuGiOh core set. Same deflective answer.
All this while I'm looking at singles. Their singles? Random commons, rares, and AstralPack foils. [Konami sanctioned/supported stores aren't supposed to sell those by the way if you didn't know.]
I dig through the singles. Some of the cards were almost warped to a 'C' shape, but I still grabbed a few things. I was on a mission to show these guys YuGiOh players could be patrons! Shopkeep 1 told me they'd probably give me a good deal when I asked about pricing of bulk. Store owner guy said he'd possibly have to check TCG for some stuff. After making my selections, some warped to death, I went to check out.
Shopkeep 1 tried to kick up the computer to glance at prices for things. Couldn't. I tried to make small talk again about the fact that YuGiOh, Magic, and Pokemon are the most popularly played card games in North America. Shopkeep 1 said he only knows one guy that plays YuGiOh ; Shopkeep 2 (who apparently only plays at a friend's house)
Never buy here. They wanted to charge me more than TCGPlayer "mint" for damaged cards. Overpriced as hell. Then had the audacity to say card conditions don't matter for MTG or YuGiOh.
Dishonorable mention for the worst gamestore I've ever been in. I'd even buy my MTG elsewhere if I still played the game due to the experience I had at this store. read more
