I had a terrific experience working with Jayhawk Trophy. I had procrastinated until the last…read moremoment with a new trophy concept and was in a bind. I am from out of town, so I frantically called them. I was traveling to Lawrence -- the shop is on 6th Street so it is close to I-70 when coming off the 202 exit. I arrived just before closing -- but Bill met me and was unruffled. Bill worked with me. Calmed me down. When I arrived at the shop (I didn't even have text yet) he showed me what they had in stock -- since this was so urgent -- and gave me suggestions. A few of the concepts I had in mind he showed how the recipient might not enjoy. So in about ten minutes, we had hammered a concept, turned it into a draft, and hammered out some working text. I tweaked the language the next day and picked up the trophy then under my mental budget and looking like I had slaved over this for weeks. The results were first class and delighted our recipient -- which is sort of the idea of a trophy or other recognition. I went with a traditional plaque but by going into the shop I got to examine the new-age clear and colored statues (acrylic and crystal) and decided Old School plaque had a classic look to it that fit the award and the recipient nicely. The shop is quite accomplished. They do the KU basketball team and they can handle multi-year plaques -- they handle many for the University. They have a lot in stock -- and if you give them time -- they can order most anything. Yes, like another reviewer, they may be in the back working -- but it is cool to see that craftsmanship has not ended. And they will greet you readily and in a friendly manner (no matter your own rattled state). The shop is a match of high competence and a chill atmosphere which will calm you down -- knowing that your event or your award ceremony will be first class, on time, and under budget. I was disappointed on this visit. My initial experience: The staff take EXCELLENT Precaution for all consumers with temperature checks and asking all questions about any potential exposure - KUDOS to the management team. The staff are extremely knowledgeable about products which I have appreciated on visits. This time, I thought let me test out the salon and get a "Blow Out" - I knew as soon as I sat in the chair and the hair stylist dried my hair that I was not getting a blowout, which defined by my previous experience is like heaven. A blowout is when the stylist works your hair straight, so that it lasts a few days. So that you can feel glamorous walking out the door. Don't get me wrong, Liz was great, she was appreciative of my thick hair, treated my scalp tenderly, explained the products and explained how she might use a flat brush vs a round brush on my hair. I did NOT feel glamorous at the end. I asked about the heat setting not being applied to my hair, why she didn't work my curly roots, and when she was done, I told her "this wont last a day". my roots were curly giving me volume. Liz explained perfectly well about hair and scalp care and did her best with my hair. She was engaging and a great conversationalist. AND I appreciate her attempt to work with my hair. I have coil 3 curl and was not content with what a "blow out service" is at this salon. If you are looking for a "Dry Bar blowout / blow dry service" - this is not the place. They have an awesome selection of products with great prices! - in search for a local hair stylist that knows how to work their blow dryer for curly hair.
