My husband and I have shopped at Vintage Stock ever since we moved to Kansas City from Des Moines…read morein 2007, spending thousands of dollars in the process. While generally pricer than Wal-Mart on newer items, if you're into obscure, older movies, music, toys or video games, Vintage Stock is your mecca. If they don't have it, or are not able to find it for you, then it simply doesn't exist. They staff several very knowledgeable employees. My husband is very big into vintage toys and, especially, video games. He also dabbles in sports cards. One employee, who unfortunately no longer works at the store, was very helpful with assisting my husband on determining the value of his card collection and provided many tips on how to preserve and store his collection. My recently made it his mission to obtain complete collections of two toy sets from his childhood: He-Man and Transformers. The guy in charge of their toy section, a fellow collector of Transformers, has managed to help us nearly complete our collection of first generation Transformers, even going as far as returning an item that he had purchased, so I could purchase it for my husband for his birthday. Their "video game sage" as he was called by the GameStop employee who recommended him to us, has become my husbands right-hand man when it comes to technical video game questions, and may be the only person he calls more than me, ha. He has also proved invaluable to my husband and I in our quest to collect every game on the Atari and 8-bit Nintendo. We are now the owner of several games, old and new, that we though we'd never have the wherewithal to track down and acquire. If we're looking for a game that he doesn't have available to him within their company, he's never hesitated to recommend another nearby store or website that may possibly have it, in some instances even going as far as naming the employee whom we should speak with. The reason I'm giving this store an average rating is due to a combination of factors. First the store is located in a very crime-ridden area. It's not uncommon to see Policeman during your visit, due to rampant property and automobile theft that plagues the area. As you browse the store, expect to see several empty packages from items that were haphazardly torn open and raided of their contents. Also notable is the amount of beggars and homeless that converge on the shopping center, especially during the holiday season. As well, a few of their employees leave quite a bit to be desired. I last visited this particular Vintage Stock location during their Super Hero Day. While there, I witnessed one employee, a lady whom I believe is the manager, loudly mock a black employee in Ebonic slang while in the presence of other employees and several customers. In closing, I do recommend Vintage Stock. There are certainly treasures to be found and wonderful, knowledgeable people to encounter, but be forewarned of the possibility that you, or your children, may be exposed to some undesirable people and situations along the way.

Vintage Stock should really be named Nerd's Paradise. Cause seriously, this place is awesome…read more They sell everything from authentic replicas of game items (think: Sora's Keyblade, Link's double-edged sword, even the DRAGONBALLS from DragonBall Z), old school records, posters, CDs, DVDs/Blu-Rays, and anything remotely related to gaming. Availability of different things vary widely by store, of course, but I've seen Sega Dreamcasts, GameBoy Colors, the original Pokemon Blue/Green/Red/Yellows, and just about anything else vintage that has gone back into the vault. These stores really are your opportunity to pick up timeless classics for just about anything that satisfies your inner nerd. The best part, though? They'll gladly buy any old video game, comic book, DVD, CD, action figures, etc. from you. Yes, they flip it around in their store and yes, they only give you 20% of what THEY value the item as, but it certainly beats dumping it in a box and sending it off to Goodwill since you can get some value back out of it (note: not saying that donating to Goodwill is a bad thing, cause it isn't). I took around 40 old Blu-Rays into one of their stores a few weeks ago and walked away with $60 in cash. Not bad. You also have the option to get store credit instead for an extra 20-25% in value (I forget the exact figure). Pretty sweet business model for both parties, if you ask me. Really, the only downside I've seen here are the pricing of their items. It's a bit scattered at times. They have some good deals tucked away in there, sure, but a lot of things that are currently being sold in stores will sell for a similar prices elsewhere. For example, Blu-Rays. Their pricing for newly-released Blu-Rays--even if the item IS used--will be similar to what you can get off Amazon or at Best Buy. But some may be lower, some may be higher, it just seems to be the luck of the draw for which titles get discounted/marked up. Pricing on vintage items are quite subjective, though, as some may think $30 for the old Pokemon Red is a steal while some may scoff at the price. TL;DR: If you're looking for a specific gaming/electronics piece that's a timeless classic and/or not on the retail shelves anymore, Vintage Stock is THE spot. You may have to hit up multiple locations, but chances are, they'll have what you're looking for. Additionally, if you're looking to get some salvage value out of old collectibles or electronics you have laying around, they'll gladly buy it off you for cash as well. Happy shopping, nerds!

Terrible customer service! My son waited 2 hours for them to ring his stuff up that he brought in…read more I went in to see what the hold up was and was told by the rude young man at the register that they get really busy on weekends. They were not that busy and I do not appreciate snarky brats! Will never come back to this location! Not good business practices at all. Shameful! This happened on Saturday, March 28th in the afternoon,

I'm going to be fair to them and give them three stars out of five, because this location does have…read morea big selection of anime, however, like all of the other locations, they lowball you when you go to sell to them, I was trying to sell my Pokémon card collection and he made a two dollar offer. There were at least 3 to 400 cards in there, while he was nice about it I thought he was kind of lowballing me, to be honest, I wasn't even asking for much like five bucks That's what I was expecting because I only had commons energies and a damaged Charmeleon, I even had some old Pokémon marbles that I would've thought The store would've been interested in I guess I was wrong, the guy who helped me was friendly and gave me some good advice, which I decided to take, the thing I want to mention is that the vintage stock in Olathe has more fair prices as I get anime there for a more reasonable price, however, if you decide to go to the shiny location, be prepared to pay anywhere from $7 to $ 400 per anime, the main reason I gave it three stars is because when you're selling something they lowball you and when you want to buy from them, they can be pretty stiff, they're a lot cheaper than buying online, but they all to realize one crucial thing people barely buy DVDs anymore. Everyone switched to streaming I'm not saying they have to get rid of their DVDs and become a cable company or something but they need to stop expecting astronomical prices for their stuff, sorry if there is any errors or grammatical errors I am using my speaker phone
