I walked in there yesterday to check it out since i like to check stores and see how their prices are, how their staff operates, and the basic aesthetics of said store front. Spent a lot of time in retail environments because of my mother so these things are second nature to me For starters the layout is awful like a jumbled mess. Case for pokemon cards was hidden by a shelf in the back of the store. Zero supervision. Looked to be no cameras. I could have swiped that whole case and walked out since the staff there had one guy helping customers and the rest sitting on their phones. That's something big that should be addressed and i wonder how much inventory they have actually lost due to the incompetence or ignorance of the staff as a unit. After standing back there for about 5 to 10 mins i walked out of the store unnoticed then came back in and asked for assistance. Not so much as a welcome or a see you again but hard to do that when your nose deep in what i would guess are tiktok's/reels Anyways, I figured i'd buy what looked to be 3 damaged cards before the owner started throwing stock at me he hadn't even went through/priced yet while bragging about buying collections at or under 60% and later bragging on lowballing people on binders with expensive cards. This is why people don't like card shops 90% of these guys are out to screw you and want to live on these 40%+ profit margins and thats is why places like this FAIL after 5 years but that is besides the point. looking most of the case i can tell you it was LP-/MP/HP/DMG cards all listed at NM/PSA 7/8 prices for raw cards One of the damaged cards was a 1st edition he claimed was LP. Saw the dents on the back when he pulled them out of the case. The other 2 he couldn't hide the fact were damaged. Grabbed 4 cards from his stock that hadn't made it to the case or been looked at according to him and grabbed them for way under what they should have been in that condition I definitely overpaid on the 3 damaged cards but, for me personally, isnt a big deal since i have the means to do so and i always try to buy from every card shop i come by. Overall I would not buy TCG through this shop 100%. Staff looks to be very lazy. The layout, from a retail sense, is god awful and doesn't highlight whats hot right now nor funnels customers through the store with any consistent flow. The owner isn't as knowledgeable as he seems and could definitely improve in that aspect. There is potential but its gonna take said owner not employee lazy friends who sit on their phones and employing people with tangible assets and actual skills when it comes to floor planning and stocking/organizing.

As a seller I took $70 for a collection of about 200 quality dvds. sold individually on eBay or Amazon if I had the time probably $500-1000. Same with the books. I have gotten $50 for a case of 100/150 best selling hardbacks. You never know as one time I brought in quality mint condition coffee table books - my offer for the lot of 50... $2. So I don't know what the deal is but the worst thing is they don't return your books. Some they take and will throw away or donate because the don't want to offend. I wish I had the option to take the books they knew they were gonna trash. All in all, they are only game in town u nless you want to do this full time. And I see them taking advantage. The selection is incredible given the size of the store, and we found books for ourselves, our teenager, and as gifts. They host book clubs and other events and you can't beat the location in Newbo. I have saved the best for last: there's a bookstore cat! When I went in a few weeks ago, I picked up a book called "The Rabbit Hutch" just to see what it was about. The owner told me a little about it, said he enjoyed it, and recommended it. His recommendation was so compelling that others shopping in the store also grabbed the book! He was so kind and appreciative to everyone who bought books and the best part is ... the book is just as described and a great pick! It wasn't a generic recommendation and his love of reading shows. Prices are reasonable - books cost what they cost. The store has lots of cute gifts as well, especially for pet people, books people, and candle lovers!

After the fun was done, he wanted to check out game stop even though he love VGE the most! My 7 year old was upset because they had the exact same box format $79! He told the guy about Video games etc and that told him that he was ripping off kids! He is an honest kiddo! There was a very large selection of high quality albums from the 70's, 80's, 90's and 2000's. Warren, the co-owner, was very nice and conversational. They have cool rare and hard-to-find stuff such as a NIN triple album brand new in the shrink wrap for $100. They had a couple thousand albums in the main store plus a ton of compact discs and vintage video games. The owner stated this still have a few thousand albums to go through to add to the main store. Customer service is great - the employees are so friendly and quickly pick up on if you're a returning customer and build some great rapport. They are just as passionate about playing/using the goods that they sell, which we love to see! Card selection is pretty sweet in the way of Pokemon cards. They might not always be in the best condition, but their pricing is typically very fair when it comes to these kinds of shops, so we respect that. They don't typically have pricing listed on the card sleeve though, so you either need to ask or sort of make the gamble once they ring it all up, which is a bit peculiar. My favorite part of Video Games Etc is the fact that they are always running "sales" of buy 6 cards, get the 7th free or buy x amount of used dvds, video games, etc. and get your next one free. It's very similar I would say to 2nd and Charles kinds of deals and gives the vibes of being a smaller 2nd and Charles in general, which is lovely to see!
