I came in for a $10 battery replacement on my Pokemon Emerald GBA game, had it since 2007 Christmas. I never got the guys name but he took it upon himself to try and solder the battery, as he finished he dropped it onto the ground and while I was walking out, I noticed it had came undone from the soldering points. He took it back into where the solder is at and re-did it again, only for him to drop it once more. He tested it on the store's own Gameboy Advance SP tester and the Nintendo trademark looked very distorted and it would freeze, I tried on my own GBA and same issue, he frantically tried cleaning it with isopropyl alcohol and Q-Tips. He admitted that he wasn't as good at soldering but that he knew how to do it, evidently not. I was then referred to their store in Selma to find their store manager, RJ. RJ tried cleaning it with more product, didn't have a store tester for Pokemon Emerald so I used my own Gameboy Advance, still wouldn't play properly. I was shown how bad the solder job was, there was solder haphazardly placed on the board and dots of it on the ROM chips pins. I was offered store credit at first, which I objected, then was offered half store credit and half cash, which I also rejected. RJ had to make multiple calls to his District Manager and even once told me that they're not liable for any damage of the battery as stated on the receipt and a signature I was required to sign, only I never got a receipt or signed anything. The only thing that could make this right was if I was given another copy of Emerald or $300 cash. I ended up walking out with $300 cash instead of my copy of Emerald which had sentimental value. Overall, do not bring any of your items for a battery replacement as they're very inept, what should have been $10, ended up costing me a lot more. TLDR: Game Over Videogames destroys my copy of Pokemon Emerald, tries to claim no liability, then try to give me store credit, ends up taking my Emerald and handing me $300. Do NOT trust these guys with your games. read more

There's always so much to see and the staff is fantastic! I stop in to this location often and always have a good experience. I'll frequently find things on my list of old games I need to get back or have yet to add to my collection, and there's usually a good selection of gems to look through along with a ton of gaming merch and art from local artists interspersed throughout all the games. The store is always clean and pretty organized despite the sheer magnitude of merchandise packed inside, and I've never had an issue with anything I've purchased from them. There have been several times while I've visited where people who have minimal to no knowledge of games will come in to look for gifts for loved ones and the staff are always extremely patient with all of the questions that they'll be asked and just as helpful in making sure they find what they're looking for or send them to another location that has what they're lacking. I've never seen them miss a phone call, they always seem to be cleaning items that have been brought in or are restocking the store, and they aren't pushy with sales either. Not to mention, they're just genuinely nice people who know their games. If you're in the area, it's definitely worth dropping by to check out. It's such a chill environment to peruse games in and the gaming music they always play in store just makes the experience that much better. They installed a new one for me within 10 minutes and tested it right in front of me and i was out the door and home with a fully functional NES Zelda cartridge that could save my progress again. Video games have been a major part of my life since Christmas 1987 when I received my first console, the iconic Nintendo Entertainment System. I spent my two-week Christmas break attempting to master the gameplay mechanics of "Super Mario Bros." and aiming my Zapper in vain at the snickering dog from "Duck Hunt." The NES marked the beginning of my thirty-year obsession with video games. Slowly but surely, I have amassed a stunning collection of 42 consoles (domestic and import) and thousands of games, many of them complete in box. Over the last several years, the vast majority of my acquisitions have come from this amazing store, the Game Over Videogames located at Bandera and 1604. Unlike many other retro gaming stores, Game Over is well stocked with games from every generation (not just the NES and Genesis eras) and staffed with friendly, knowledgeable, enthusiastic uber nerds like me. I'm a huge fan of the second generation of video games (roughly 1977 to 1984), a time when seemingly anyone (even a leather manufacturer) could release a game console to compete against Atari. The walls at Game Over are stacked to the hilt with reasonably priced games from this era. I've picked up hundreds of fantastic titles for the Atari 2600, Atari 5200, Intellivision, Colecovision, and Magnavox Odyssey 2. I've also picked up several pristine retro consoles from here, including a practically mint Intellivision from 1979, a four-port Atari 5200 from 1982 (with a controller that actually *works*), and a Panasonic 3DO from 1993. I forget exactly what I paid, but they were priced competitively and roughly $10 to $20 cheaper than what I've seen on eBay. Although the Intellivision and 5200 worked just fine (if you consider a crappy RF signal "working"), I contracted with a tech-savvy YouTuber called Ivory Tower Collections to have them converted to composite AV output. I've included links to both videos at the bottom of this review in case you're a massive geek or simply curious to see my Internet-famous consoles being given a makeover. As I mentioned earlier, the staff at this location are super friendly and helpful. They're eager to discuss their favorite games, give recommendations, and offer insight into upcoming promotions. On one occasion, I was about to purchase several uncommon Atari 2600 games for approximately $14.99 each. The guy at the counter advised me to wait until the following week when all 2600 titles would be 50% off. A few weeks later, a different staff member gave me a phenomenal deal on a rare, complete-in-box copy of "Atlantis" for the Odyssey 2. Regardless of your tastes, you're practically guaranteed to find something interesting at this store. Pro tip: sign up for their email newsletter to receive notifications regarding upcoming sales and in-store gaming tournaments. On the day before Thanksgiving, the guys at this GO were kind enough to replace the battery to one of my copies of Pokemon. I called another but they were too busy due to preparing for Black Friday. This store was more than happy to help and did so in a timely manner! What's even better is I was able to build a bond with them really fast since I was into repairing consoles! They strongly suggested I drop by on Black Friday so I could get their broken consoles cheaper so I could fix them. I would totally recommend hitting this place up. It has some great retro classics at fair prices. Chill and laid back employees, but they don't act like they don't care. you can tell they care for classic old school video games. They even had some rare games I didn't expect to see, like a fully packaged Mario land for Gameboy. They had many different consoles Nintendo 64, Gameboy, Sega genesis, NES and SNES to name a few. However there are two reasons I can't give it 5 stars. One some consoles have barely anything in stock, by that I mean there isn't many games being sold for those consoles. Of course I don't expect them to have every single game for every single console, but I would expect at least a Mario or two for Nintendo 64, but they didn't even have that. Second when I bought a Nintendo 64 there was GRIME and DIRT I. The console cartridge slot. Unacceptable, the console worked fine but that isn't okay. I cleaned it, but that just isn't acceptable. Everything has to be done a specific way, they refuse to itemize buys so you have NO idea what prices are on some things. Don't like it? Went to all of the locations with my girlfriend searching for 360 games. All but one of them because of the distance and it was such an amazing experience at the others i figured i would have the same results at the bandera rd location come to find out i was very wrong. After being told i could trade games in for store credit after more than 30 minutes of searching for games for my 360 that i thought worth playing i got told i could only get $5 for my 15 games that i brought to exchange (one was same game in their display of the BETTER GAMES for $15.99) but not only that all 3 games i chose they didn't even have the disc but they sure had cases for them. regardless I left with all my games i brought that i've collected the past 6 months. i didn't get nothing but a waste of gas and made a fool of for even trying to enjoy the only game console i have right now. long story short i found one of the same games they didn't have here at the bookstore next door. so thanks to the bookstore for being the one to sell me a game and glasses lady on night shift don't say sorry if you provided me with nothing but time i'll never get back and an awful date night on a already bad day. read more

Hi, I was in Gameover earlier and was hoping to enjoy a good visit to this store but when I was shopping for a new PS3 game I heard a worker say you should go home to your special needs kid and were saying some other negative comments to each other and were laughing a bit loudly. As a 30-year old man with autism, I took that personally and I felt their behavior was inappropriate and unprofessional. This is an excellent store for older video-games. There are thousands of games for many of the great classic systems (NES, SNES, N64, GBA, PS1, SEGA Genesis, etc.). The employees are nice and have a very good background of most of the games one might want to ask about. There are two of these stores in San Antonio and I visit them whenever I need something for my GC, GBA, or PS2. read more

Best gaming store I've ever visited! What a gem. The selection of vintage games/systems is huge and I was amazed at the number of games that are literally decades old that are still in-box. The back room with classic arcade games and local video game-inspired art is wonderful, too. The guy working there when we visited was incredibly knowledgeable about games and systems and maintenance, and they seem to be very well-connected with the local gaming scene. I came in to sell Numerous games. I'm not so much bothered by the major low ball but the lies u got 3 systems about 10 games so many u said u couldn't even sale but my kid really needed a container it's all he asked for Christmas. So I believed this guy supposedly the boss. He can only give me $30 cash or $35 in store credit talk about being stuck between a hard place so I ended up getting the generic controller a game for $4.99 and owed them $5 oh well but then my husband goes right back in and they have price tags on everything I just traded them each game over $30 I go back a day later and one system over a $100 without the case or the 6 games that I came with we know nothing about games we knew we wouldn't get what we payed for them. I understand they gotta make there money but to outright lie. So of course the remote doesn't work bring it back in and they don't have another so I have to upgrade and they charge me more I'm like seriously you can't bite the $5 u already ripped us off. The guy apologized and said it was his boss that did it not him but he could get in trouble so cool he didn't do anything wrong I don't want him in trouble. So I took the pictures of everything I traded in to GameStop and they felt so bad told me they would have given me a $130 cash or $150 in store credit. So ya thanks we will never be back. I know you don't care but to take such advantage of people your just a Shit person.
