I LOVE 1977 books! It's a volunteer-run bookstore at the Kress building with an excellent selection…read moreof books about civil rights, feminism, abolition, cooking, disability rights -- you name it. I visited for the first time today and was absolutely blown away. From the design of the store to the location, there is so much to love about 1977 books. I've ordered from them online once before, so it was nice to see the shop in real life. I didn't get a chance to take photos of the shop (I was too busy browsing all of the books), but I managed to get a book that had been on my wish list for a while + a cute conversation deck that I plan on using with my loved ones. The volunteer who checked me out was also very kind and wore a mask. Come check it out!

A book store for book people…read more I love this place so much, i got a ton of clancy novels for cheap here. also lots of books about lgbt and black history (a rarity here) overall if you want books the library wont put out, come here. also this place has a nice selection of small gifts (i bought 2 candles and they were amazing) the staff were always kind and helpful. this place is a beacon in the hellhole of alabama.

I was very impressed with the shop clerk. She was friendly, no pressure and tuned in... keeping the tunes flowing in the store by regularly changing the vinyl. The whole vibe is very hip yet welcoming.... so much so that I didn't feel self conscious buying a 1967 album by The Cowsills. I'll be back.

I get this drink often, and it doesn't take that long--it felt like he just didn't want to take the extra time. He also didn't ask if I wanted whipped cream, and I ended up with it anyway. Since I ordered oat milk, it would've been nice if he had checked, considering it's a non-dairy option.

The store has great vibes, and I always find what I need, plus five more things I didn't know I needed. I see a few low-star reviews, and it's helpful to have an idea of what you're looking for before you go. The owner is very knowledgeable, but he'll be more open to questions if you're not using his time like a Google search. Phil has given me some excellent guidance, and I love coming by anytime I'm in the area.
