Game Nut is a semi-unique store in a video gaming world that is being overtaken by GameStop. Independently owned and operated, Game Nut is a shop where video game enthusiasts can come to buy and sell used games and DVDs. While GameStop has divested themselves of older console and handheld systems for favor of only the newest and most-prominent titles, Game Nut has a substantial available catalog of Xbox, PlayStation2, GameCube, DreamCast, and other systems and accessories, alongside new titles from Xbox360, PS3, and Wii. In addition, Game Nut does a substantial stock and trade in DVDs, rivaling chains like Half Price Books in size and selection. One feature of Game Nut that sets it far apart from the competition is the Game Loft area. Upstairs from the shop, Game Nut has a large lounge area populated with chairs, game systems, and large screen televisions. For hourly fees (reduced with longer-term subscriptions) customers can play any video game available from the store's used selections. This is a great way to sample a game you are unsure about buying, or is a fine place to spend a little time with a friend or friends playing multi-player over the store's network.

Amazing selection of video games, comics, CDs, and games. They have an LGBT comic section although it's a little limited it's great that it exists. I was surprised by how many comics were there.

This is suppose to be a circle under the rubber cover.

This beautiful old building is surrounded by scaffolding so you can't really see its architecture, but I didn't see any renovation happening outside or inside, where the walls are covered with gorgeous murals, other detailed artistic painting, and intricate hanging light fixtures. The old-but-comfortable theater-style balcony seats are covered with red velvety fabric. It's a visual feast. However, renovation inside is massively needed, especially for safety concerns. When the lights were turned out for the films it was almost pitch black, with no modern-day dim "safety lighting"...not even enough to navigate if you needed to. And right in front of each balcony seats there's flooring maybe 1' deep for your feet to rest on (not enough), which then drops precipitiously almost another 1' to the next level of floor that you need to reach to walk in or out of the row! While this creates a clear view of the stage for every row of seating, it's very dangerous. To get into the row you need to step down to the lower section to walk across but there's nothing to hold onto except the arm of the seat on the end, and I needed the help of the willing hand of the kind person seated there to feel safe. The stairs to the balcony could accommodate 3 to 4 people across, but you have to be on the outer edge to have a hand railing. One woman tripped at the top of the stairs to the balcony and slammed very hard into the backs of our seats, and her popcorn rained down everywhere, including on us. I don't remember how wide the space is between that last step and the seats, but it seems there wasn't enough, or much demarcation visible between the last step and the floor. We were all rattled by the impact, the noise, and the popcorn, but she was able to get up with help and get to her seat. I'm do remember thinking it would be easy to fall there, and I was glad I wasn't the one who did! The main level has no fixed seats, just very uncomfortable-looking wooden chairs set up in rows. That didn't seem like a good time during a 3-hour film festival! There were two pretty decent bathrooms available on the that floor, and I was told there was one on the balcony level, but I couldn't see it. However, I wouldn't have even tried to navigate from the dangerous seating set-up in the dark to get to any bathroom! The only open concession area was on the main level, in a small dark niche, and unlike modern theaters, there was no food, just beverages (including cocktails), candy and popcorn. The high prices on those were the most modern thing in the building! The eight or so short films in the festival were all human-interest stories of one or more persons and their interactions with and adventures in nature. All were inspiring and interesting, all had some scenic nature and landscape views, and I think all included water elements. But none were quite what I expected, as I had learned about the "Wild & Scenic Film Festival" at a viewing of the stunning panoramic "Wings Over Water" on the Extreme Screen in Union Station in KC a few nights before. Wild and scenic nature at its finest! This fundraiser for nature and environmental causes was well put-together and organized by volunteers, and I think very successful, because as far as I could see, the theater was packed, and many people had attended it for years! Water One was the main sponsor, joined by many other generous partners. Raffle tickets were sold for one lucky person to win a large kayak, and everyone received a free ticket for a prize raffle with a plethora of good items, including several wooden bird and bat houses, nature-and-on-the-water clothing items, quality t-shirts and water bottles, and many more worthy prizes winners could choose from. I was one of many lucky free ticket holders, and very happy with my surprise gift bag containing a soft "There is no lemonade without water" t-shirt, a WaterOne recycled plastic bottle that claimed it "kept 1,085 plastic bottles out of the environment," and a small zippered clip-on pouch full of First Aid essentials!

Vintage Stock should really be named Nerd's Paradise. Cause seriously, this place is awesome…read more They sell everything from authentic replicas of game items (think: Sora's Keyblade, Link's double-edged sword, even the DRAGONBALLS from DragonBall Z), old school records, posters, CDs, DVDs/Blu-Rays, and anything remotely related to gaming. Availability of different things vary widely by store, of course, but I've seen Sega Dreamcasts, GameBoy Colors, the original Pokemon Blue/Green/Red/Yellows, and just about anything else vintage that has gone back into the vault. These stores really are your opportunity to pick up timeless classics for just about anything that satisfies your inner nerd. The best part, though? They'll gladly buy any old video game, comic book, DVD, CD, action figures, etc. from you. Yes, they flip it around in their store and yes, they only give you 20% of what THEY value the item as, but it certainly beats dumping it in a box and sending it off to Goodwill since you can get some value back out of it (note: not saying that donating to Goodwill is a bad thing, cause it isn't). I took around 40 old Blu-Rays into one of their stores a few weeks ago and walked away with $60 in cash. Not bad. You also have the option to get store credit instead for an extra 20-25% in value (I forget the exact figure). Pretty sweet business model for both parties, if you ask me. Really, the only downside I've seen here are the pricing of their items. It's a bit scattered at times. They have some good deals tucked away in there, sure, but a lot of things that are currently being sold in stores will sell for a similar prices elsewhere. For example, Blu-Rays. Their pricing for newly-released Blu-Rays--even if the item IS used--will be similar to what you can get off Amazon or at Best Buy. But some may be lower, some may be higher, it just seems to be the luck of the draw for which titles get discounted/marked up. Pricing on vintage items are quite subjective, though, as some may think $30 for the old Pokemon Red is a steal while some may scoff at the price. TL;DR: If you're looking for a specific gaming/electronics piece that's a timeless classic and/or not on the retail shelves anymore, Vintage Stock is THE spot. You may have to hit up multiple locations, but chances are, they'll have what you're looking for. Additionally, if you're looking to get some salvage value out of old collectibles or electronics you have laying around, they'll gladly buy it off you for cash as well. Happy shopping, nerds!

There were at least 3 to 400 cards in there, while he was nice about it I thought he was kind of lowballing me, to be honest, I wasn't even asking for much like five bucks That's what I was expecting because I only had commons energies and a damaged Charmeleon, I even had some old Pokémon marbles that I would've thought The store would've been interested in I guess I was wrong, the guy who helped me was friendly and gave me some good advice, which I decided to take, the thing I want to mention is that the vintage stock in Olathe has more fair prices as I get anime there for a more reasonable price, however, if you decide to go to the shiny location, be prepared to pay anywhere from $7 to $ 400 per anime, the main reason I gave it three stars is because when you're selling something they lowball you and when you want to buy from them, they can be pretty stiff, they're a lot cheaper than buying online, but they all to realize one crucial thing people barely buy DVDs anymore. Everyone switched to streaming I'm not saying they have to get rid of their DVDs and become a cable company or something but they need to stop expecting astronomical prices for their stuff, sorry if there is any errors or grammatical errors I am using my speaker phone

Having grown up in Lawrence when you had Kief's and…read moredoing record hunting the first time around I found it rather soul soothing to go into a place again and thumb through a thousand records again. Some are new, some are used. Place is packed with records from one end to the other and you have to navigate in/around the people there which is how it was done in the old days. I remember finding 'The Information Society' in downtown Lawrence as a teen, was funny to me in that I was picking up They Might Be Giants first release, and the Big Science release from Laurie Anderson. Things I did in the late 1980s once before. I hate feeling like some old person saying 'back in my day' but there is a sense of contentment to flip through a huge selection of sounds, seeing things and deciding if based just on the cover if it's worth spending your hard earned money on. Something playing over head selected by someone who works there, finding something new, it was a shared experience that I think we miss now with everything algorithmic and solo. The only downside being that it's hard to balance a solid selection in a physical location, I'm sure compared to 'online' but there's nothing quite like flipping through records and finding something you were looking for. Solid pricing for a retail location in downtown, you're not going to buy 11 records for a penny like Columbia house but you won't be disappointed with the selection and the hunt.
