Employees need training Especially in customer service. One employee constantly watches and eyeballs me like I'm about to steel, never says a word to me and is constantly rude. Anyone else having issues with this guy or just me? Starting to feel like I'm being targeted. Even when I buy something he's rude to me, and this one time he got upset because I didn't take my receipt. I completely understand that business has to make a profit but when I visited the store for the first time today I got so excited that I found a Funko Pop chase in the wild! It retails for $15 but I looked at the bottom of the Pop and they wanted $50. I asked the employee you charge PPG? (pop pricing guide) he says we charge a little more for chases. That's almost 4 times more. I will never step foot in that store again. You are better off with GameStop Walmart target. read more

I'm not a gamer, so this review is about the comic book shop in the basement. It is amazing. I stopped collecting comics about 30 years ago. When I started again, I went to Game Nut and was worried I'd be confronted by snobby, fan-culture gatekeepers. Not at all. Everyone there is knowledgeable and nice. Rather than gatekeepers, they were welcoming and seemed excited that we had a common interest. When I told one of the staff that I was back into collecting again, he said, "welcome back, we missed you." For a 50-year-old man who has rediscovered his love of the artform, this is my shop from now on. read more

I've been here a few times now. Selection is pretty good, particularly for older game consoles which is nice. If you have a PS2, you'll have hundreds of games to choose from. Prices are also modest, from about 8-12 dollars for games dating back to the early 2000s. Staff has also always been friendly. Don't go here expecting to get a lot of money on trade-ins. I was offered 6 dollars for 50 dollars worth of games that I'd purchased just a week before from the same location. I get it, they are in the business of making money. To rub salt in the wound, they could not offer me any cash because they "didn't have enough money on hand." What business doesn't have 6 dollars in cash in the register? After this happened to me, I've since read dozens of reviews on Google and Yelp where this has happened to people dating back to 2015. I only ask that they are more honest about their business practices as their website explicitly states they will give cash or in-store credit for trade-ins. You're better off selling your games online, or just keeping them. I couldn't even walk next door and buy a beer. read more

I can always count on EXCEPTIONAL customer service, they're genuine people who are always happy to chat about our favorite things: video games & board games. The crew is knowledgeable and many of their recommendations are spot on! They'll also call over to their Mass St. site to see what's in inventory if we're looking for something specific. First off, I have to say that the upstairs is the best comics shop in town. Now that I have that out of the way, I'm going to talk about the Addams Family GameBoy game. So, everyone's been evicted for some reason I'm not sure of. There's like a forest to the right of the house, and you get that epic Gomez vs Grim Reaper battle nobody ever asked for. Also, you get like a golf club that shoots projectiles. This fight is stupidly hard. I actually couldn't figure out how to beat it. Overall, it's a game that exists, and I recommend it for that reason. read more

Good deals. Good people. Great conversation. Amazing atmosphere. Whoever does the front display is skilled and awesome. They always have something cool and interesting going on. When I'm in there, I often find stuff that I am really interested in, good finds, but the prices are pretty heavily dictated by Ebay, the king in this day and age, of market value. I've discovered awesome collectibles, such as the purchase of Silent Hill 1 at a pretty good price. If you're downtown and you're into gaming, this is a must go. The staff is knowledgeable and happy to talk about shared interests. They also have a music and movies selection. This is a cool place to stop by if you're downtown in Lawrence. read more

Great local gamestore Been going to this location for over 5 years, and their staff has always been the most friendly in town. They are generally knowledgeable about video games, current and older. And to top it off, they aren't constantly shoving magazine subscriptions down your throat like another not so local game store in town. read more

I will not recommend this shop. Got some store credit easier in the week. Waited 30 minutes to use it on some comics while they did a transfer of the credit from Iowa store to Mass store. I was then told after that wait that I needed to go downstairs to get the credit set up. When I got downstairs I was confronted by a store clerk who treated me like I was shoplifting. He said, "Do you know you can't use your credit up there." I said, no I did not know that, how am I supposed to know. Honestly, why make me wait if I can't use my credit. What is the point of store credit if you can't use it on store items. Iowa group was great but Mass street ruined my view of the store. Guess they don't want people to use store credit, feels like a scam. read more

This place literally looks stuff on eBay on a day to day basis and does not actually price its boxed games. They have a giant wall of boxed stuff for SNES SNES SEGA stuff etc that has no price on it. You have to ask the cashier how much every single game is. They then look in their "system" to price them. The price fluctuates. EBay is their system. Give me a break. Also I watched the employees berate some poor kid asking how much trade in credit he could get for his N64. Couldn't give a ballpark answer be cause guess why? Price fluctuates. The Front Displays are the best thing about the store on mass. NO RETURNS! BE careful what you buy. I can only recommend playing games in the upstairs gamer room, not buying games unless you are a risk taker (maybe just handheld games if you have your console with you to try it in front of them). Also service not as good as it could be (variable). They also seem to be getting loaded down with junk games nobody wants and therefore willing to get ~$2 store credit per game on avg. As an avid video game collector with a couple hundred physical games spanning all manner of consoles, it's fantastic to find a store that can boast this kind of selection. While their PS3 and 360 selections are quite good, their selection on older consoles is absolutely staggering. I spent the most amount of time in the PSOne, PS2, and Xbox sections and was surprised to discover a copy of just about every title I could think of. In fact, I killed about an hour going from section to section seeking out the rarest titles I could think of, then ogling over the box-art, which I could find 8 times out of 10. I picked up a couple of titles I had been searching for for some time, as well as one I was surprised to discover even existed. My copies were immaculate, with nary a scratch on the discs and all the original box-art (which is very important to me as a collector). Since my visit four months ago, I've played through those three games and they've performed perfectly. The downside is that the premium selection and the premium condition of the products comes at a premium price. I was shocked to find that titles were uniformly MUCH higher than I was used to seeing. I saw some titles there going for 45, even 60, dollars when I've seen the same titles going for 20 in other stores. Personally, I am willing to pony up for some of the rarer titles if I can't find them elsewhere or it's a particularly mint copy, but I understand that others may not. If you are a collector though, you'll appreciate this store. They take care of their stock and they know a lot about games. read more

I'd like to start with a comparison of prices both for trade-ins and for purchases. First, I will start with Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix for PS3 which can reasonably be purchased from online second-hand stores for around $20 while Game Nut asks $35 for the same game. Now for the trade in, I had an unopened copy of Fallout 4 for Xbox One that retails for $20 in new condition. Game Nut only paid me $7.50 for it and they opened the package while still wanting $20 for it. That being said, Game Nut does have a variety of lower quality games for less than you'd pay for the same game at the local thrift stores. Game Nut is also a fairly convenient place to get rid of old, but functional gaming gear that GameStop wouldn't even consider. Where Game Nut excels is in the variety of unusual items that they stock and having fairly helpful staff. I also prefer supporting local businesses where I can. read more

Some of the games in there are "hard to find" but don't justify their ridiculous price tags. eBay, Craigslist, or just Google will help you out better than this place. DON'T GO TO GAMENUT! Especially the one on Iowa. I called looking for a few specific games and was given prices on them. I went to gamenut on Iowa (we'll call it gamenut a ) looking at 4 games: resistance 1 and 2 , killzone 2, and unreal tournament. Gamenut a had them all, prices were higher than I was quoted and I told them. They said I was mistaken. rat this store resistance 1 and 2 were 20 a piece, killzone was 20, unreal was 10. I called the main store on mass and told them of the discrepancy, and was told to bring them in, and I would be refunded the extra $. After I went in, I checked this stores prices on all of the same games (this store is gamenut b). After looking at the games on the shelf I was shocked: resistance 1 and 2 were both marked at 15, killzone2 was marked at 13, and only unreal had the same price at 10. That's 15 more for the same games, at the same company, just a different store. I was told I could get a store credit for the difference in the price of killzone 2, which could only be spent off their store. I pointed out that I paid 5 more for the same resistance 2 game I just purchased, and was told that the 15$ price was mismarked, and 20 was the right price. I them told him that resistance 1 was 5 more for the same game at gamenut a also. He didn't bother looking up the price in the computer, he said " well that's what were trying to work out). Bottom line, I paid 15 more at gamenut a, for the EXACT SAME USED GAMES I could have gotten for 15 less at gamenut b. 15$ is a whole extra game for nothing. The one mistake they were able to correct, I got store credit on, which they profit from. This is a poorly run business, and even when you point out that they made a mistake, and their obvious major discrepancies , they will do little to make it right. I do my best to support local, small businesses, because I think its important, GAMENUT HAS MADE ME A GAMESTOP CUSTOMER FOR LIFE, AND I ENCOURAGE ANYONE READING THIS TO AVOID MAKING THE SAME MISTAKE I DID.
