I am a big sports card collector and this is my favorite sports card shop that I have ever been to. It is clear that the goal of the store isn't to make money but to have the customer be happy and try to get a special souvenir at a great price. They could be making so much more money off of sport cards and they know that but they keep it reasonable to keep you happy. Also, the two people who work their are great, kind people who I have had great conversations with every time I go to the store over the summer. This place is what makes Bar Harbor such a special place to me.

The problem with this store is the employees…read more They are very stuck-up, often rude to the customers, have a tendency to serve their friends before they tend to any other customers, often times i've gone it there and couldn't even find them even though it's a small store. I've actually had to wait before I bought my goods while the employee had a casual conversation with his friend about a card game, he then gave me a really dirty look when I spoke up. The worst was that I actually witnessed the worker kick a customer out because he didn't like the same game as him. The store is good, I would give it 4 or 5 stars but the terrible workers ruin the experience.

Huge and beautiful decorated game room with playing tables for Warhammer, Battletech, Magic, D&D, etc. They have a bank of Gashapon machines that entertain my 9 year old daughter for 10 minutes so I can shop in peace while she figures out which one she wants to put tokens into. Been in probably 100 times over the years for tournaments or to browse through their massive selection and despite what the negative reviews say I have never seen the owner or staff be rude to anyone. Literally never. I have however on many occasions seen gamers stand at the register and want to chat with them for 20 minutes about their life story and I've seen the staff have to cut them off to help the next person in line, which is not rude at all it's completely reasonable. PRO TIP: If you go into a business don't expect the staff to always be able to chat with you for 10 minutes about your favorite hobby as they have product to order, shelves to stock, online orders to process, and other customers to attend to. It is a business after all and they are working. Based on my experiences here I tend to think many of these negative reviews are from super nerds who don't have enough social awareness to understand that they can't consume 20 minutes of a staff members time with chit chat or that perhaps their trade in item isn't as rare and valuable as they think it is. Ignore the bad reviews, go in for yourself and I think your experience will be very similar to mine.

What's even crazier, is that during said events, you're never pressured to buy anything. How do they make a profit? I'm not sure either. But it seems like their business model is more along the lines of providing a space that makes people feel happy and welcome and then worrying about that finance stuff later. Seriously though, the place is super welcoming and patient with nerds of all types. Whether you're dipping your toes into nerd culture or want to dive in face first, they've had an answer and anecdote for nearly every geeky genre that has ever pique a nerd's interest.
