Located just off Peach Street about 1 1/2 miles from I-90 I found Mel & Tee's easy enough. The front half of the store is mainly a hobby shop, some cool stuff but not what I was looking for. Luckily there is a door to the back of the store which is stuffed with a wide variety of items, collectibles, furniture, home goods and enough to keep you looking for a little while. For me the only item that interested me was a vintage wood stick puppet from Java/Indonesia. The puppet stood out as a very unique and high-quality item, although it did have a bit of damage to one of the hands. The price was about right, but a bit more then I wanted to spend. Luckily I started talking to the very nice lady at the register and she said that they were willing to deal on the item. I made a bid at the lower end of what I thought was fair and she accepted. I ended up getting a great one-of-a-kind item at great price. If you are looking to check out a local thrift store in Erie, Pa. I would suggest giving Mel & Tee's a try, not the biggest place but the fun is finding something you never expected; also really nice when you can negotiate a bit to get what you want.

She said she really didn't know anything about the items I was talking about and immediately found me the person that could help me. There is a palpable neighbourhood-bar vibe, where local collectors drop in to buy packs and boxes in quantities large and small, and feel free to voice their support or criticism of sports teams. Upon walking in, I loved the atmosphere with all the cards and games. A bit disorganized but it didn't bother me too much. What really bothered me was the employee I had to deal with. I was just looking to trade in some cards for maybe other cards and the employee behind the counter was absolutely rude. Doesn't even look at what I brought in and just sits back down. I then browse through the store and she is watching me constantly to the point I feel uncomfortable looking anymore. Then, I ask about a product behind the shelve and she won't even look back to see what I'm talking about. At this point I said screw it I'm taking my business elsewhere. Terrible experience, terrible employee. Never dealt with anything like that before. Highly suggest going anywhere else.

There's a lot of employees putting out product. 3 carts full of unsold merchandise that people discarded at the registers and left. I added mine to them. Terrible customer service. I went to Michael's in and out in 10 min, am employees helped me find what I wanted and said "thanks for coming in". Hobby lobby can pay someone to put my stuff back instead of checking me out.
