I'm adding a rating here because I don't see why it was scored so low on this. Amazing selection of retro video games and figures whether you're into Japanese anime or Western super hero stuff. So cool, wish I discovered them sooner as I've been coming down to Lakeland Florida for years every Christmas to visit family. Who knew! Now, the owner guy might bust your chops a little bit but to me not in a bad way, he had NYC vibes but without the accent. You also aren't necessarily going to get a "deal" but I'd say fairly priced for what is on offer. Some vintage things are expensive these days no way around it... You could pay the same on eBay but at least a physical store you can see exactly what you are getting and not have to pay for shipping. Cool spot! Just don't expect to be fawned over or much bargains. As far as attitude goes, just throw it back at em! They can handle it. read more

I think they gouge their prices. I bought a model kit, in which there was another one for $50 of the same type, but the one I bought ended up being $60 and another store at the mall had Miku figures worth $45. I've never had a problem with customer service unlike a lot of these reviews, but I would not doubt them at all. They have a lot of hobby related items, which is great, if you don't care about price. Many of the games are insanely overpriced. The figures and model kits are reasonably priced, though. I would not reccomend going to this store to look for any rare or expensive games, they will charge 2x if not more for it than any other place. The worst part of this store is the trade-in value. Do not sell these people any expensive game expecting a good return. I came in hoping to trade in $250 worth of games; they offered half of what each game was worth. They would have sold them for the full price, but only offer the customer 50% of what their games are worth. I took my business elsewhere. "We have to make money too" is what they told me. When you have hundreds of thousands worth of stock in store you don't get to make that argument. You aren't a small business barely able to pay rent. They are able to give their customers better deals, they just don't care to. read more

I walked into the store and asked the clerk if they had a Modded Gameboy Advance SP. He showed me where they were. He let me know the prices of the consoles and went back to front desk immediately. For context the staff member did not have a customer at the front he went over there to likely resume what he was doing. I asked if I could look at the Gameboy Advance SP and the team member said "You're looking at it". I let him know that's not what I meant. I'd like to see the screen and modding menus since I have an old AGS-001 model. He came over and powered the device on for a second. The whole Gameboy logo didn't load yet. He then walked away again. He said he wouldn't hand the device over to customers. I asked him if there was a lot of theft, the person (employee or owner) said yes. I then was wanting to see the modded menu since I am unfamiliar with modded GBAs. He said he didn't know how and he was not going to pull out the manuals since they're expensive. I asked him if he gets a lot of dickheads that's come into the store. He said yes collectors can be demanding. I was hinting in my tone that he was being a dick. The man had a condescending tone the whole interaction. My son asked him a question and he was not rude. Long story short- I wanted to drop $280 on that Gameboy. I came in specifically for a GBA SP but, his tone and the lack of respect made me go else where. I will not give money to someone who lacks respects for customers and their inquiries about a product. The store has an awesome wide selection of figures and games which i enjoy collecting but unfortunately can't say the same for the customer service here the 2 employees who i assume are owners are just simply down right rude and demonizing simply asking questions is a bothersome to them despite the fact i spent 300$ at their store, if you are looking for some figures this is the place to come but just expect customer service to be non existent here read more

This is a cluttered hobby shop with a lot of figures and old video games. Plenty of pop culture merchandise for the standard comic and superhero fan. Stock has varying rarity. The employees I interacted with were nice and polite. Check it out if you are in the area. read more

Game Attic - Hobby Shops Near Me - Lakeland, Florida

This is the worst retro game store I've been to in the state of Florida if not the entire US. While in the store with my daughter I heard a commotion near the front of the store. Apparently one of the employees tripped and knocked over some items within the cluttered store. A older shorter employee with grey hair started yelling at the employee and it made us and other customers uncomfortable. I think the older employee was either the owner or manager because I asked him if they had any Atari games in stock since nothing was on display. He acted like I was inconveniencing him and he sent me over to another employee. The other employee pulled a contained with about 20-30 games from behind a counter. I found an Atari game that I needed and I noticed it was priced on the high side. Since the game wasn't even on display and it was above market value I asked the employee if they'd take a fair price in cash for the game. He told me to speak with the grey haired employee if I wanted to negotiate. I approached the grey haired employee and offered him a cash price a few dollars less than the marked price. He was very condescending in his answer by saying I could pay what was on the price sticker along with tax giving me a random number that he pulled out of his ass. I declined and walked out of the store as he made a rude comment when I left. The guy is a total jerk with absolutely no customer service skills. The inside of the store was also very cluttered and it was like being inside a booth at a swap meet. Definitely way better retro game stores out there, I'd stay far away from this place! read more

Awful customer service, very rude!!! I you like being talked down by just asking a simple question, this is the place. Figures are marked about 20 to 30% above regular value. I am a collector, ThreeA, Sideshow, Hot Toys, and etc. They have a large variety of stuff, but they are unfamiliar with the merchandise they carry. I walked in and was immediately greeted with the person behind the counter about my beverage and asked to leave the store or throw it away which I immediatley turned to do and as I was walking towards the door I heard him reply to another patron that there is only a thousand signs posted outside. Not everyone reads everything in doorways there was a much better way to handle that and I probably would have returned as a customer. Since this is the way they speak to customers about other customers I will not return and would suggest finding another company with better customer service. read more

The warm nerdy ambience surrounds you like goose down and the pops flow the salmon of the capistrano! 12 hours ago First off if I could give this establishment 0 stars I would but please accept the 1 star rating as a mercy gift. I came into Game Attic to inquire about Masters of the Universe items, and they had an awesome statue of skeletor, me and my wife had just eaten at the food court and she had food in a bag and theres a sign that says no food or drink so she waited at the door, when I saw the statue I wanted to show it to my wife to get the ok to purchase I asked the what I'm assuming was what passed for a manager if it was ok if she brought her food in long enough for me to show her the statue, he said yes then proceeded to mumble rude things under his breath because she had a drink as well, (which she never took a drink of at all) after the third rude comment I'd had enough and let him know that his idiotic and immature attitude just cost them a 160 purchase, and left, sadly a 7 dollar meal still in bag and a drink untouched must have just ruined his day, for future reference from one store manager to another when a patron asks permission to do something and you agree to let them, it's pretty much viewed as rude and childish to make rude comments when no rule was broken, on the bright side of this horrific visit, I just went to Mondo's website and ordered one for 10 bucks more that is hassle free and brand new. Game Attic is a pretty accurate description of your establishment because what passes as customer service there reminds me of a venture through the dark ages. After reading the other horror stories of customers being cursed at I'm glad my first visit to your cave will also be the last. If I can offer a friendly piece of advice to you it's watch your mouth to people, your customers pay your bills, and ultimately provide your inventory to resell, and with so many other avenues available for people now, you may find more and more people doing just what I did paying 10 dollars more and going somewhere else for their purchases, and while one 160 dollar sale might mean nothing in terms of profit margin, the truth in this review will hopefully steer someone else away from such unprofessional behavior, and that my friend is priceless. My husband and I brought some vintage game systems in the store to see if we could work a deal to have a Nintendo fixed for giving him other game systems/games to do it. The quite rude gentlemen behind the counter had a chip on his shoulder from he second we walked in the door. Im about 5'2" and bout 120 lbs. Pretty small framed. I had a fairly heavy bosx in my hand and went to set on the case gentley and he started getting rude saying dont set that on my case and asked me to "throw it on the floor" are u kidding me, u don't throw NOTHUNG vintage on the floor. That was rude in itself. Then he tried to tell my husband his 64 didn't work t all when he just played it with my son in law and the guy at the store never even plugged it in to see if it worked or not. Yes it does work. Then he was throwing around games and being very disrespectful with our gaming equipment. My husband ended up telling him nevermind and went to pack up his stuff and told the man he would not see his face or money it that store anymore. The guy looked at him and said that is fine then looked at another customer and said "people try to bring thier JUNK in here and get something for nothing. I thought he was way outta line. We had not even talked about what my husband wanted to yet. Your in business to sale, trade, and fix gaming systems, DO YOUR JOB! I don't know why this has such a low score. This place is great! Not only do they sell TONS of old video games, some of which can be hard to find, mind you, but they also do gaming repairs as well for really low prices. I had to get my old 3DS repaired twice, and both times they did excellent work, it worked good as New afterward. Yes, I'll admit it's a little pricey, but they go through the trouble of cleaning whatever game or accessory you buy RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU so that way they KNOW it works! This is a great store and you should go to it if you love video games like I do. read more

Just bought an original xbox from this place. The thing was used but was sold for the price of a new xbox. When I opened it i discovered it was used, had a paint smudge and couldn't play audio cds. I suggest you go to amazon or somewhere else to buy a system. read more

The owner may have a great selection of games and crazy prices, it's your choice to buy it or not and his choice to realize if it really is making him the money he needs to keep his business going. But if I am going to take the time to drive all the way out there to get a used Playstation3 and it doesn't even work that's kinda messed up. Plus, right when I went up there to return it the guy immediately points out the messed up warranty sticker that I didn't even touch and refuses to help me at all. No refund, no exchange, no repair. At least the day before that I tried to return it, the girl offered to fix it. Which, if you know how fixing a PS3 works, she would then have to remove the warranty sticker. For all I know they probably mess up the stickers and sell them like that. $235.35 gone just like that. But I'm not done here, any of the rest of you have problems here?
