i can't believe being on that boat for several hours (5/30/26) and not catching 1 damn fish. I am so disappointed. The crew was very helpful and friendly. But, out of more than 30 people on boat maybe there were 8-10 fish that was caught, total. The captain kept moving from location to location. Fished out of the Gambler w/ my Father In Law for my birthday, was a great experience. I'm mostly a "Sweetwater" fisherman (freshwater), so it had been a few years since I've been on a Party Boat. Last few times out on other outfits, we didn't catch any Keeper fluke to take home, that was disappointing. But the Gambler put us Keepers, somehow I don't think that was a "fluke" (excuse the pun). I would say right from the start that if you are bringing children along, this is the boat( or should I say ship?) you MUST choose. Even though it is a slightly smaller craft than others in the area, the crew is larger and to my observation, better trained. The way they interacted with the several kids on board made me wonder if these folks were teachers or some similar child care providers. The captain came around several times to see how everyone was doing, and was quick to move when conditions seemed to dictate. He even got us into a few really good spots. The vessel itself is very clean everywhere( I've seen restrooms on others that were scary) Some food is offered on board, your regular suspects of course. But I must say that I was very tempted when I smelled the pork roll. Music is NOT blasted on deck, I Personally do not mind the other ships that do, but my elderly uncle was very happy with the fact that this one did not. Just want to start off saying the crew was great. The problem I had with this trip, is that they advertise this as Nite Wrecking. They claim we would be fishing for Ling. (The captains favorite fish). And at the same time, would catch Sea bass, porgies, blue fish and mackerel. Well we started off right from the beginning with diamond jigs, so I knew something was up so I questioned it. Crew said they were gonna start off with Blue fish. Long story short. We anchored in one spot and fished for Blue fish all night and never moved from that spot. I bought worms and prepared for wreck fish. Never again will I go on this boat. read more

Very nice crew. Clean boat with A/C and food for purchase on board. Bathroom is clean with good stream of water. More than half of my party got motion sickness from the ride. The water is a lot bumpier than Long Island. We went for a fluke trip in middle July and came back pretty empty handed. A few people in my party got a few sea bass and that's it. The boat moved to like 10 locations this trip, but none of them is particularly good. We stayed at each spot for around 5-10minutes and all fish are gone:( read more

I would infer from the other review that its not particular Eco friendly. Lol I have seen the chain smoking cirg butts and maybe tossing of can in the sea not totally cool. But the crew was friendly and helpful. It's prob not kid friendly, but the price is definitely good for the places around here... We were able to catch sea robins, croakers, flukes and some sting ray looking fish. It's definitely meant for a older and more experienced fisher, and many brought their own pole and bait. Though I don't know anyone by name I am assuming the first mate Jim is the older tougher maybe been in the service. He definitely wasn't unpleasant just a no nonsense man. There is bait provided and not just the first one like some Of the other ones, and price of 45 to get out in the ocean and see seaside from the other side is wonderful. Tho there were no keepers, the memories are enough of a keeper for me. The crew were friendly and the people on the boat were very nice. I have been on boats where the passengers were not. I've taken my son on their boat three summers in a row. The way the captain and mates treated us was A+++. The first time we went I told him "we're going on their boat every summer". Even at points when we weren't catching stuff, which wasn't often, they'd bring him over to other people's fish and let him hold them and talked to him about the different fish. Absolutely horrendous and non professional. We went out on a Thursday night and it couldn't have been worse. The weather inland was beautiful, but when we hit the open water it couldn't have been choppier. I am not exaggerating when I say 10 of the 30 passengers were sick and could not get off the boat for 5 hours. 2 of the people in my party didn't fish at all. The issue I have is they KNEW it was bad out there because they had just come in from a day fishing trip. Did they warn anyone ? Give us a choice to reschedule? Nope. Not at all. This was our first time!! we had such a blast on this charter! Staff was most excellent in instructions and removing fish!! was just awesome !! Can't wait to come back! Just have one gripe , the benches were filled with other peoples tackle bags so seating where we were was unavailable!! Should use benches for guests not storage! The gambler was a great change up, between the excellent staff and great fishing locations we all had a blast. Someone pulled in a nice doormat at about 7.5 pounds and it was great to see. Call to see if the galley is open and there may be hot cooked food for you and your family. . This is my favorite boat for off shore (24-36-or 48 hr) trips for exotics, Tuna, Sword, and Mahi. I along with many of my friends and family have fished this boat with Captain's Bob & Mike Bogan for over twenty years. Their polite and professional crew will make you feel safe and be there to help with fish and tangles. Free parking behind the boat, 1/2 dat trips start for fluke on about the third weekend in May and go till third weekend in September 8AM -1230 & 2pm-630pm $45, with $5 discounts for seniors and only $25 for children. Night wrecking or bottom fishing during summer and fall on Thursday, Friday and Saturdays are $60 for adults, $55 for seniors, and $35 for children. Thieves! Your reservations mean nothing. If your close by, this may be a good choice, but if your setting up a trip and want to make things go well, reserving a spot won't do much good because these guys will pack the boat 1 hour before cast off right over you. The notice is not clear, seems like on purpose so they can take money from unsuspecting people even on Father's Day weekend. Their lot people are well trained to tell you "it says on the ticket to be here 1 hour early". It does but it is cut off in the email (easy to miss). I contacted the captain via email and waited a week for them to attempt to make it right, no response at all. read more

Took my 12 y.o. Fluke fishing. It's a good deal for the price, and she had a lot of fun. We caught a few fish, enough for dinner. The mate, Chris, is great and very helpful. However, the mate, James, is a grumpy, angry guy. As is the rest of the crew. But, the company has it's own, free, parking and the tackle is in good condition. If you are smoke-phobic, I don't recommend this, as everyone, from 18 - 70 years old, including the crew, chain smoke. And they are definitely not eco-friendly, since everyone throws their cigarette butts and beer bottle tops in the ocean. read more

I usually fish out of Belmar but my friend suggested Point Pleasant as an alternative. It was 30 minutes further but I was up for something new. After 90 minutes in the car, we had to pay $13 to park, only to watch The Gambler set sail as we walked to its parking lot (which was tiny and only fit about 10 cars). It was 7:30, the sign and website said 8:00, but the ship left us stranded. Drove all that way for nothing. These guys clearly don't care about you. Don't waste your time too. Took the Gambler out this morning on a 1/2 day fluke trip. The trip started well with a nice pick, i boated a couple of keeper fluke. there was also a pick of sea bass and mackerel. the wind kicked and it was tough to hold bottom with a 12oz sinker. The crew was great with the net and fast to assist with untangling lines. the Capt. did a nice job trying to keep us over fish. I was a nice trip despite the swells and the wind. Professional and friendly staff. Friendly fellow fishermen. And it was a sunny day and we caught fish. One of the best fishing experiences ever on a group charter! When lines were tangled under the boat, staff was right there to replace tackle and bait. Glad we brought a large cooler as we caught enough for dinner for 3. Overall good experience. The staff was friendly and welcoming in the beginning, but near they end you could tell they just wanted to get over with. But they did help with anything you needed. My biggest problem was the cigarettes. They all smoke cigarettes the whole time, which I don't think is very professional. And when they were done they would just flick them in the water. The boat was clean enough, and the bathroom was suitable, but they need to add paper towels or something to dry your hands. The boat was also very crowded despite not being close to full, but that it typical. Once again an overall good experience and catch a few fish. read more
