While visiting Parque Natural da Arrábida and Cabo Espichel, I was looking for a place for lunch, and was excited to see that Cantinho da Regina (Regina's Little Corner) is a vegan restaurant in Sesimbra. We figured out, when we arrived, that it actually offers both vegan and non-vegan fare. The restaurant offers indoor seating, as well as a few tables outside, with a sideways view of Praia da California (California Beach). Decor is very simple, but there were cute touches here and there. We arrived late for lunch and Regina was out of most items. We put ourselves in her hand and said we would eat whatever she had available. I was served Bacalhau Cantinho (Cod Cantinho style), and my spouse got Cogumelos Bras (Mushrooms Bras style). The dishes were nicely plated and, most importantly, tasted delicious. As Regina said, the secret ingredient was love. For dessert, we got two slices of vegan chocolate cake, which were very gooey; the texture was closer to brownie than cake. Parking is available on the street at the front; if you cannot find street parking, there is a huge parking garage to the right of the restaurant. Service is very friendly.

What makes it special is watching the pastries being handmade right in front of you, which adds a level of freshness and craftsmanship that you can actually taste. The service was super fast and friendly. The pastel de nata came out perfectly, with that delicate flaky crust and warm custard that just hits differently when you know it was made moments ago. The espresso was equally impressive, rich and smooth, and the two together make for a simple but near perfect combination. If you are in the area, this is an easy and very satisfying stop.

The crust was super flaky and the tart was nice and warm out of the oven, but I didn't like the flavor of the custard. I did forget to add cinnamon to the top, but I don't think it would have helped me personally. The woman who stood next to me at the counter had a nearly orgasmic experience next to me, so it's obvious that my taste buds are apparently off. I loved the patience of the server, who got confused when I told her I wanted to eat in but wanted to take water to go. Note to self...Portuguese folks want to have their "to go" as "takeaway." What I also didn't know was that there was no place to sit!! I scooted down the counter just like all the other folks to watch the bakers prep the next gozillion pastries for the day. That was interesting. Then, I didn't know how to bus my dishes. I just left them on the counter like all the other folks and went away. I wouldn't skip going because of my personal taste buds, though. Enjoy it for yourself and let me know if you have a different opinion than I did!

When we arrived, they were just doing counter service and closing for the afternoon, but we were able to get a panini and we found local craft beer (which was pretty neat) and they let us eat on their patio. I had the Iberian sandwich which has Iberian prosciutto, flamengo cheese, lettuce, tomato, and pickled red onion. It was the perfect sandwich to cure my hangry. When we went for lunch the day before we did not know that this café was also the breakfast part of our bed and breakfast. We stayed at a bed-and-breakfast the next street over and both mornings a continental breakfast at this café was included. This is one of the best breakfasts I have ever had as part of the bed-and-breakfast. We were each served a portion of fresh fruit (which changed by the day), a boiled egg, a couple slices of ham and cheese, a pastel de nata, a basket of crossiants and rolls to share, and whatever you would like to drink. I had fresh squeezed orange juice, and a latte both days. Thankfully, like most places in Portugal they offer dairy alternatives. I honestly still dream about this breakfast. The wait staff on all of our trips were so friendly and helpful. It is really a beautiful set up and they have many things that you can purchase as well. I personally purchased a bowl shaped like a strawberry that I now have in my kitchen. This is definitely a stop. You need to make while in Sintra!

Overall, a decent place for food. Price was fairly reasonable
