I love the unassuming rawness of this complex. A number of Anselm Kiefer's large-scale works overwhelm entire spaces: this place was made for them. It's difficult to pick a favorite here but the most unusual is Ernesto Neto's 'É o Bicho,' a 2001 assembly of lycra tulle, polyamide tubes, hooks, tumeric, black pepper and cloves. Looking like a series of large-scale udders hanging from the ceiling, the aroma of the two seasonings inserted into the pendulum-like protuberances is a sensory delight.

I got an evite for an opening event at Basel and found it wasn't. Although off the beaten path from the traditional gallery walk, it can make a walk all its own. There are two stories of artists there, a lot of whom you can talk to about their work, including my personal favorite - Daniel Fila, the creator of the "J-Lo Mural" off 36th & Biscayne. (If you've driven by you know what I'm talking about) Add to that the whole old-building ambiance and the chance to see old structure (huge bolted trusses and expose I-beams) and you're in heaven as a true art lover. Oh, and by the way, a couple of the artists have said that it is haunted ;).

During her painting session she was very patiend,, made me feel comfortable and at ease. She treats her staff as family, i loved to be painted by Alexa. I was happy with joy and I got teary. Her staff is amazing!! They are so good in what they do, and all are very passionate of what they do. Alexa,'s studio makes it a happy place and treated me like family. I did not feel a bit out of place. Their customers service is wonderful, and made the process so smooth from the start to finish. I loved every moment of my painting and photo shoot. If I could I will be happy to do it again a thousand times.

Gunnar's gallery for art Basel. It's right on the beach and the time of year is normally very…read morepleasant. This year it was breezy and warm but not hot. Wide variety of artist styles. Basel pieces can be expensive, but the value often lies in the eye of the beholder. Staff were friendly ushering in people. This year I felt they did a great job activating a really fun looking bar space. On preview night, the crowds weren't bad but I expect the traffic to be insane on the weekend as it was last year.

The main art show at the convention center can be overwhelming with how large it is but this one was on a smaller scale yet it was still as impressive. The only thing I did not like is when we purchased a drink at a nearby bar, the person automatically added her tip. I didn't appreciate this but I didn't want to say anything because I wanted to continue to have a great time. I will definitely try to return to this art show in the future as I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the art and talking to the artist's representation about it.

Located in Lincoln Road Mal, Oolite Arts, a non profit was founded in 1984 as ArtCenter/South…read moreFlorida by potter Ellie Schneiderman, who was looking for affordable work spaces for Miami's visual artists. She want to "help artists help themselves." According to their website "Oolite Arts seeks to be the bedrock of the visual arts in Miami. Formed over time, it is composed of residents, alumnae, curators and visitors, coming together to build a community around contemporary art - a fundamental part of our arts ecosystem." Today Oolite Arts provides artists with the free studio space, the chance to exhibit their work, and support. The building contains artists' studios, small exhibitions spaces, and the group's offices. You can take classes or attend events in the building. Oolite also operates out of a new location at 75 NW 72nd St where they will offer more than 200 art classes and launch a visual art program for teens. Oolite Arts recently sold one its two Lincoln Road buildings and there are plans to build and open a new building in Little River later in 2023. Little River is becoming an alternative location for artists priced out of nearby Wynwood. The new building will have two dozen studios for the group's residency program where artists can get free space for two years, an exhibition space, a theater for films and lectures or presentations, a studio, and offices. Any organization that supports and facilitates the arts is a worthwhile one to support. They help artists who might otherwise not be able to afford studio space to have a place to work and exhibit. It looks like they have some amazing plans in the works to help even more artists in the future. This is a fantastic organization. Stop by for inspiration and culture.

I finally made it to PAMM after living in South Florida for years, and it was a good experience…read moreoverall. We went on the second Saturday of the month when admission is free. When we arrived around 4 PM, the parking garage was full and we were told we would have 10 minutes to find parking. We got really lucky and were able to secure a spot. Parking was $18, which is pretty normal for downtown Miami, and it was convenient being able to park on-site. I would not consider myself a big "art" person, but I really enjoyed some of the exhibits, as well as the fun Chromosaturation room. Afterwards, we were able to check out the Resilient Lady ship as she was leaving port of miami, which was nice and relaxing. Overall, I enjoyed the visit and would definitely recommend checking it out, especially on one of the free admission days.

We went here to look at the space for a work event. It was fantastic. Joyce is a wonderful artist…read morewho showcases it in a fascinating way. The wood around the plants - really caught my eye. She was kind enough to walk around with us and show us how the machines work as well. She is an architect by trade and now wants to play with material and textures in an effort to mix the sensations of painting and sculpture. She employs plywood as her main material and challenges the evolutionary trajectory it has undergoing in the process. It is incredible - the human interaction with the machine as well. It is certainly worth a special visit.
