Miami City Ballet School is across the street & Miami Beach Regional Library is in close proximity to The Bass. Once you arrive onto the property, you see Ugo Rondinone's "Miami Mountain", a unique & beautiful public sculpture. It is definitely a treat walking towards the entrance to the museum. When we arrived inside, we were welcomed by lovely Greeters at the Admission Area. The Bass is a quaint, intimate-enough smart space. Highlights included "Selections From the Permanent Collection" & Artist Tavares Strachan's "We Belong Here". Nam June Paik: The Miami Years Exhibit displayed the South Korean Artist's creations via use of mixed media, electronic/ digital objects & images. Admission is free which is always a bonus value when traveling on vacation. A sign located at the entrance instructed visitors to download an app to be granted entry to control visitor traffic. This took all of five minutes. Then the docent allowed entry once scanned. There were maybe 7 visitors at the time of my arrival. It is literally next to ICA Miami. So I didn't need to move my vehicle from the Miami Museum garage across the street. There was a vast selection of artifacts. It was well designed with natural lighting pouring in from the wall of windows. Docents were posted throughout talking on headsets notifying each other of the number of visitors heading in their direction. This was odd especially since they weren't leading any tours of any kind. This lifelong collection showcased much history and creativity within the culture. A little construction was happening to prepare for another installation. I enjoyed my visit.

We were the only 2 there when we visited on a Saturday morning. There are three floors of unique and varied types of art work. We parked on the street and paid via the app but there is also a parking garage right across the street Hours are Tuesday - Saturday 10-4 and admission is free. You must compete a COVID registration prior to entering. A pleasant docent monitored us as we freely walked through the 3 floors of exhibits. He was able to answer any questions we had. I recommend a visit to the De La Cruz collection and send additional time in the Miami Design District.

Located in the heart of the Gables this museum is the perfect spot to host lovely evening looking at the stars. I came here for a private event and was fascinated by the Spanish inspired architecture, bistro lights, star gazing and the live music + food that was brought by outside vendors leading it to be the most perfect night. The place itself is spacious, airy, and cozy all at the same time. If you're looking to host a private event that will transport you to a European night, this is the spot!

The exhibit is beautifully curated and full of life, it truly immerses you in her journey and fills you with the energy of her achievements. It's inspiring to see Celia throughout all her phases, uplifting your spirit and reminding you of the incredible, adventurous experiences life can bring. I really appreciate when institutions pay homage to true Latin icons with all the glory that a symbol of Latin music and culture deserves. Even though the exhibit is small, it's a joyful little capsule of azúcar that reminds you that life is a carnival of happiness. La Reina Celia will always live on through us, every time we dance to her rhythms and step into her world. Just wish it would be a little bigger as the ticket might be a little bit expensive for the exhibitions space and offer (my only reason I don't that the final star it deserves). The friendliest art gallery…read more Virginia Miller opened her first gallery in 1974 in Coconut Grove with at first mostly local art but soon expanded to Cuban, Latin American and even some Chinese artist. She moved her gallery to Coral Gables in the early 80's and was a major factor in starting the first monthly gallery nights in greater Miami. That's right folks, Wynwood didn't start shyt. Virginia is extremely approachable as is her husband and they usually have the artist in house to answer any and all questions. The latest artist that was showing here was Leslie Lew. She shared with the Yibbies a story behind a painting she did in the early 80's while she lived above a botanica on Broadway. Let me repeat that. A botanica I'm the middle of Manhattan on Broadway. Times have changed. If you do happen to come by on a First Friday know that they will have some kind if white wine, never red. Red spills where you least expect it. Galleries Bartoux is an international group of art galleries across Europe and in the US. The first gallery opened in 1993 in Honfleur, France and this location in the Design District opened in 2020. Look for Galleries Bartoux in London, Paris, Monaco, and New York. The Bartoux Families goal is to make art accessible to the public. They represent over 100 different artists in the categories of masters, painters, and sculptors. Some of the famous names I recognized included Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, Salvador Dali. Marc Chagall, and Keith Haring. The art pieces they had displayed were very eye catching. They had paintings, clear suitcases with things inside them. blue morpho butterflies, metal sculptures of people with pieces missing, and a tattoo covered marble torso. You definitely won't be bored here. I enjoyed looking around and this is a worthy stop if you are in the Design District.
