We rented a property through the associated gallatin reality company, and it was the worst renting experience of our life.
As the other comment states, the owner is just a terrible human being. He took over ownership of our building after we'd moved in, and refused to honor terms of our lease the previous owner had set. We had almost no privacy in our own apartment, and he made every possible attempt to squeeze extra money out of us whenever possible.
He began showing our apartment for new tenants 9 months before our lease ended, and for at least 5 months we had strangers passing through our apartment 4-5x a week. This would frequently be done without informing us in advance, and often our door would be left unlocked after our apartment was shown. He also had his building maintenance men frequently enter our apartment, again without telling us.
He also charged us a fee for a rent check which arrived late, but DIDN'T INFORM US about the fee, and then proceeded to add a fee to each month because we hadn't paid the previous fee WHICH WE WEREN'T aware of... we only learned of all this when we tried to reclaim our security deposit and found that he'd taken hundreds out for these fees. I've rented apartments all over the place - big cities, small cities, college towns, etc., and I've never experienced anything like living in a building owned by gallatin. My apartment felt less like my own home than when I lived in a college dorm room. read more
