This review is for the mini kid field. It is run so poorly and they really need to get it together. They are letting teenagers hit and giving everyone 6 hits. Kids are cutting the line and no one is managing anything. It's a disaster and a huge waste of time. Someone go to Citifield in Queens and take notes. They have a height max so only actual kids can hit and they let each kid hit three balls off a tee. The line moves and you're done with an inning, two at max. read more

I love the general options we have at our local Petco Park ballpark, from food choices, specialty seating and different venues from sports to concerts. Gallagher Square was established in 2024 as a new concert venue in San Diego. It is part park in the park with sections open to the public on non-game days to bark in the park for Dog Days of summer events. I purchased tix for my husband and I to see the Counting Crows, a band that ushered me in to my California life in the 90's. I purchased front row tix on the Tony Gwynn Terrace which is known to have an elevated view from the platform. We were to be close to center stage. Parking options were good on a non-game day, entry opened on time, and we even received some free swag from the band on the way in. These were the positives. The merchandise line was slightly disorganized, the food opps limited, but the worst thing was the night was poorly managed. These were the negatives. The reason I can only give this 3 stars is that it was a first time experience at this particular venue and first impressions do count. As much as I would love to attend another show, I will sometimes not go back to a place that doesn't exactly give you what you paid for. I have worked in event management and crowd control while working with Disney characters to Olympic athletes, so I have an idea on how things should go. What I would like to see as a patron is... 1. More variety in food or snack options open on show nights. 2. A display case pre payment counter for merch versus looking over the counter. 3. The reserved section and seats, especially the terrace, should be stanchioned, tickets checked and seats marked. This includes making sure people get the seats they paid for and reserved. I reached out to both the ticketer and the venue seeking resolution to a seating and staffing problem on our visit. I really hope this will be corrected for future events so that we can return to see a future show. We'd all be like, "You know what, let's just stay British. The food's not great but at least we have the Earl Gray". The square was better because you were physically present. If you said something dumb, everybody knew it was you and gave you a massive amount of hairy-eyeball. You couldn't hide behind your fake profile picture. You had to walk home. Alone. Even your dog didn't wanna be seen with you. And people forget: the square was also efficient. You could settle all your business in one trip. Buy a chicken, complain about the mayor's taxes, see a hanging. Accidentally touch hands with the blacksmith and wonder if it meant something. One trip. Now, I gotta go to five different apps. So let's get back to meeting at the town square. Getting back to truthful face-to-face discourse just might save our democracy. The pandemic is over (I think?). We all need to put our pants back on and return to the real world. Pro tip: the recent renovations and family-friendly atmosphere make this square a 5-star venue. It's an amazing place to enjoy concerts, baseball games, and festivals... or just hang out with your dog and Tony Gwynn. Gallagher square, overall, is nice even though the actual dog park is a bit small. Love that it's right at Petco Park, and perfect for people who have both human and fur babies with their big jungle gym for the kiddos right next to the off leash dog park. The downside is that it's all turf... and i prefer the real grass they used to have before the renovation. Another thing to be on the lookout for is since it is at Petco Park, the dog park is not always open, especially during games or special events. This place is so cool! I came here over the weekend to attend a 5k and a concert (Diplo's 5k). Our run started at Gallagher Square, and went through downtown Gaslamp. After the run, we entered Gallagher Square for a 2 hour DJ set from DJ Vice and Diplo. I love how the concert venue has grassy hills surrounding the dance floor, so you could choose to sit on the hills or stand in the middle. Because it was so open, the air felt really fresh. The stage here is super big, and the music quality was great! I can see how parking can be a challenge, but we were able to parking in one of the underground structures nearby and walked over. read more

The staff kept the space clean, frequently changing out the trash cans and picking up trash to minimize overflow. So much better after the remodel! Not 5 star because of the difficult parking, but everything else is very improved. Gone is the steep grass hill, that proved a challenge for even the sober people. The hill has been shortened, and a new bridge with viewing platform has been added. Also helpful is the ADA seating section stage left, in that side of the hill. Employees are super friendly, and helpful with access to the seating. The front concession area is open for Gallagher shows, including the snack bar, and a Hodad's, plus several different options for alcohol around the square. read more

Went to a Padres game over the Fourth of July weekend and had an absolute blast here. When I lived in San Diego many years ago, this was called, "Bark Park" and was literally just a grassy area. Since then, they've added bars, places to eat and a playground for kids. There's a massive TV see the action close up or sit on the grassy hill area that has a straight viewing spot right down centerfield. Guest are allowed to bring in blankets and towels to sit on along with water bottles as long as it's unopened. It was honestly like a giant backyard barbecue with a baseball game happening in the background. My one issue with this place is that drinks are expensive, but that's gonna be at any ballpark really. Be prepared to pay at least $19 per drink. If I lived in San Diego, again, I would definitely come to games on the regular. Highly suggest this as a "must do" when visiting San Diego and it's baseball season. read more

Love this ballpark and love this area... Located out in center field it opens before the main ballpark area so you can go in, hang out, grab a beer and listen to the Padres house band. Nice kids play area and great place to chill.. Once the game gets going it gets very crowded so be ready.. totally fun! read more

The newly remodeled and completely reimagined Gallagher Square is absolutely stunning. The Padres have done a magnificent job with this beautiful outdoor space. The Tony Gwynn statue perched on the hill surrounded by fans' Legacy Bricks is an outstanding tribute. We found our brick to Tony's left. We loved that they have Tony "pitching" to Trevor Hoffman with a baseball stitched path in between. The tunnel underneath is a great tribute to Tony Gwynn also. A really cool feature. The rebuilt hill with seating is really nice and the four-top tables adjacent to Tony are a great feature. There is even a snack bar up there too. The new screen on the backside of the batter's eye is massive. The stage in front is larger also. The miniature Petco Park for the kids is great. It even has a replica right field foul pole with JIB Jack's antenna ball on top. The playground with the giant bat is really cool for kids too. We've only been to Gallagher Square during Padres baseball games. Never a concert or any other activity so I cannot speak to it in that forum. For baseball, it is fantastic. read more

I went to Gallagher Square for the first time to see the Jane's Addiction and Love and Rockets show. What a great place to see a show! Gallagher Square is a small to medium sized, outdoor venue just outside of Petco Park. I know that concerts and events are regularly held there. I'm not sure what parking is like, but we took a quick Uber downtown. You can also take the trolley as it stops nearby for all the ballpark events. We were able to enter easily and quickly, as there was no line. Event staff was friendly as we walked in. We stopped off for a round of drinks with no line at all. We got more drinks at other bars later and had short lines only. I liked that there was a variety of beer, wine and cocktails so that there was something for everyone. What I really liked was that even though the area in front of the stage was a large concrete area, there were plenty of grassy areas around to stand or sit, and many of them had a decent view of the stage. This kept me from feeling like I had to be in front in order to see anything. However, I also felt that it was easy to work our way to the front when we wanted to. We didn't get food that evening, but it looked like a lot of the food vendors in the ballpark were open. The restroom was large and clean and had no line. The only thing that was annoying was the swag line that we gave up on before making it to buy anything. I'm not sure if that is the fault of venue or of the people who sell the band merchandise. All in all, this was a really lovely place to see a show and I look forward to catching another there sometime soon! read more

I have attended hundreds of large-scale events, including major rodeos and festivals, and I have never experienced anything as unsafe as this rodeo and concert. Our family attended with two people in mobility devices--one of them a seven-year-old child in a wheelchair. From the start, ADA accommodations were chaotic and miscommunicated. We were repeatedly given incorrect and conflicting information about ADA seating and were told to leave the rodeo early to secure accommodations that ultimately did not exist. As a result, we missed most of the rodeo we paid for. The concert portion was far worse. We were forced into an overcrowded area with no safe way to relocate, and security support was essentially nonexistent. A male guest actively shoved, screamed at, and physically assaulted members of our group for nearly an hour. Despite repeated pleas for help, security acknowledged the situation and chose not to intervene. At one point, we were told to "just turn around and watch the show" while being physically assaulted. During this time, we were shielding a child in a wheelchair from being crushed. We were genuinely afraid someone would be seriously hurt. Security did not remove the aggressor until the concert was effectively over--after multiple guests had begged them to step in. In the end, our family received less than one hour of the rodeo and approximately two minutes of the concert, spending the rest of the night managing fear, chaos, and preventable danger. What makes this worse: Management later acknowledged the incident happened, confirmed it lasted about 60 minutes, and admitted it was avoidable--yet still denied compensation, claiming we were "there for the entire event." When asked how we were supposed to leave safely without security help, there was no answer. This was a complete failure in ADA planning, crowd control, staff training, and security response. Acknowledging an incident without accountability is not acceptable--especially when vulnerable guests are involved. Until serious corrective action is taken, I would strongly caution families, ADA guests, and anyone expecting a safe event experience. read more

I would definitely say I like this set up for the concert performers that come here. It's very spacious. Easy to see the center stage. If you get their early enough you can probably sit on the grass if not you would have to stand but there's more than enough space to stand. The sound is loud enough you will have no issues hearing the performers if your not up close. I would say that theirs very few options to grab any drinks, food is very basic. Not hott most of the time. I will say that as far as parking goes if your planning to park down here you most likely have to pay. Best thing is to catch an uber or take the trolley. If you look for street parking your looking at atleast 4 or 5 blocks of walking. 3 blocks if your lucky. read more

I came a few weeks after having surgery and they treated me like some sort of criminal for needing a medical bag. Don't waste your money. Their security needs training and some manners. We got to hang out here on 6/23/2024 at the SD Padres KidFest on Sundays in the summer. It was a fun time the kids had some balloons, Rookie pillow giveaway, free baseball cards, bounce houses and lots of photo spots. We bought a baseball and magnet from the Gift store and also ventured inside the hall of fame area to check it out. You can access the stadium seating from Gallagher Square so we did just that by taking the elevator to our seats. Quick easy access for people with strollers. KidFest staff were friendly. read more

It was my first time at this venue yesterday. Just like any general admission concert the space is a first come first serve so if you're short i'd suggest coming early to get a good spot. We got to the venue pretty late but still had a decent view of Cigarettes After Sex. The audio was great, the view of the surroundings was so nice. Security was attentive with medical emergencies in the crowd. Merch area is worked AMAZING! I love that there is an actual line and people watching it! so it goes by quick! We found the merch line so long down to the gate but we were out within less than 30 mins. There are porta potties by the stage but also actual bathrooms in the food court area :) I got a pretzel for $8 I think? and it was decent pretty soft and didn't taste old. Just like any other venue either you can see or can't not sure why so many want to give this place a negative rating. read more

Gallagher Square is such an iconic part of downtown San Diego, connected to the Petco Park stadium. When there are no events, it's essentially just a nice park where Tony Gwynn's statue stands. We used to walk around here and hang out during breaks from law school, which was only walking distance from here. During Padres games, they sell tickets for a very reasonable price so you and your family/friends/kids can have a picnic and watch the game from the big screen out there. Most recently, we went to catch the Yellowcard 20yr anniversary concert. It was set on a Tuesday but there was still a huge crowd, about 6-8k people. Didn't think it's possible to fit that many people in the square but it was a blast, and it didn't feel too crammed! You still have access to the bathrooms in the stadium and some of the food and drink places are open if you come hungry. read more

Park at the Park in Gallagher Square is a great place to walk your dogs after grabbing some coffee at one of the nearby shops. There are no shortage of nearby residents walking or playing with their dogs here and there are plenty of doggy pick up bags as well. Park at the Park offers nice views of Petco Park and is also where they hold various smaller concerts when the act would not warrant a full Petco Park audience. Note that when major events are occurring at Petco they close down the park several hours before the event starts so it's not always open. You'll need to check your calendar. read more

Great spot for a nice intimate concert. This was my first time seeing a concert "at the park" and I was impressed with the venue. I have been to Petco concerts and they are much much bigger and also less fun than this one was. This had all the flare of a big concert with a small venue feel. Plenty of room for everyone to see the stage and sit or stand all with good sound. The sound was clear and loud. I stood for some songs and grabbed some grass for some. This review is purely for the audience, the venue is fantastic. I went to see Chromeo and The Midnight on 9/14/24 and never had an experience with the crowd like that before. I am from OC and mostly go to LA for shows so I'm sorry if I found the SD crowd rude. Mostly everyone was chill except for the comments and dirty looks I received from strangers. I don't believe I dressed inappropriately, nor do I think I was obnoxious as I danced and sang along without touching or bumping into anyone. Kept my distance for the most part and had a great view of the stage. Two different people thought it would be ok to tell me I was "acting weird" in their own words which I found disturbing. One girl went on to say she didn't want to get "near me and was afraid of grabbing my ass" in Spanish. Fans: please! I beg you. If you're going to go see a live show and see people having a great time, don't ruin it and stay home if you need to. Chromeo is amazing as always and the energy was awesome. I think I'll just go to LA from now on. At least people there vibe and leave you be. read more

Great venue for smaller events. Staff at concession stands were very friendly. Wear comfortable shoes due to standing for concerts. Sound quality was good. Crowd control was decent. Take the trolley if possible to avoid traffic and paid parking. They have a an Ace parking lot across the street if you prefer to drive. Parking was 25.00. I took the trolley and got of at the 12th and imperial exit. The walk over to Petco park was short. My overall experience here was enjoyable. read more

The grassy area has a playground for toddlers and alcoholic beverages for the adults. Tons of room to relax. Awesome city park! I love coming here with my dog when there isn't a game or concert. It's a public park but owned by the PetCo Park and Padres baseball team so it's closed for special events and games. They just gave it a massive renovation this summer of 2024 and it is stunning. Great little off leash dog park area, awesome playground for kids with the world's largest climbable baseball bat, and lots of cool Padres stuff to check out. They also now have public pickle ball courts and it's a great place to check out, stroll through, or watch the games from. Not a lot of parks in downtown San Diego, so definitely check this one out! read more

If you're going to Gallagher Square for a concert, get there early enough to claim your area. Bring a blanket/towel to sit on if you want to be able to hear the artist. If you end up being towards the back, the microphone is not loud enough for the people to understand nor is the clarity of the microphone. They should have speakers on each side for the people in the back to hear. This was my first time attending a concert here. Very disappointed. Not sure if I would buy tickets to this place to watch another concert. Depending on the band. Maybe if it were for a R&B slow jam artist. Met a few people that drove to SD from Arizona to attend the concert, and they too said they were disappointed in the sound quality. I was told that the residents around the park complain about the noise level. Well, I say move! You are complaining about the noise yet you chose to live in downtown and near a ballpark. It's part of the ambiance. Shut your doors, close your windows, turn your tv up, or get ear plugs. We pay good money for these concert tickets. Let us feel the loudness of a concert! read more

This review is for Park at the Park which is located adjacent to Pet-co Park on the north side. The park has a super view of the ball park and the city skyline. The park has a playground for children with playground equipment. (see pic) It also has a miniature base ball diamond for the little ones, but what it is most famous for, is the tribute statue to Tony Gwynn, and all his achievements. (see pic) There are tiles on the ground with all his achievements laid out from the year he was drafted as a rookie, to the year he was inducted to the Hall of Fame for base ball players. (see pic) If you are a baseball fan, it is a must see. The park is well maintained and the grounds are bright green and healthy. One of the best lawns I have seen. The park has a few benches and sitting areas and some trees strategically placed along walk ways. (see pic) While I was there reading and relaxing, I noticed a number of people on lunch break having their lunches and chatting with co workers. There were also a number of families with their children enjoying the play ground and the mini base ball diamond. Many people also take their leashed dogs for walks here. Not a great venue to see a live act. No organization at all. People were just crowding around the gates and rushed in once they opened. If you get a spot on the grass and feel like you'll watch the show in peace, good luck. People will just step on your blanket, fall on top of your stuff and even worse stand on your blanket once the show begins. I never expect to come back to this space. They oversell GA tickets and there is no effective crowd control. Really think twice if you are bringing children, they will not be able to enjoy the show with all the riff raff around. read more

A park within the park is just an awesome site to see and experience. From being able to enjoy a MLB game on the grass along with your kids (and even your furry companion) to having Sunday home games occupy the park with kid/family friendly activities (face painting, bounce houses, etc..) has me enjoying just enjoying this part of Petco park more and more. Any fan of the Padres remembers Tony Gwynn and so does this park with a statue of him. Only draw back is the park is small so it can be packed especially on Sunday when it's kids day. Other days though it's just a great way to experience a home game and not have to deal with the long lines at the concession stands especially as you can bring your own food in to enjoy. Love this part of Petco and my girlfriends daughter enjoys all of the activities she can get to before we watch a game. Go Padres! read more

Used to be a park where the neighbor residents could go, read a book and lounge in the park. Not it's constantly closed for multiple raves that are excessively loud every weekend. My children really had a great time, they love baseball. I was really enjoying the park, but did notice some.e dog owners had their furry family members off leash. And there were some droppings that weren't picked up yet. Kinda left me apprehensive about letting my baby daughter crawl on the grass. I didn't feel it was my place since we were only visiting, and the dog owners seemed like locals who frequent the park. All in all,still a beautiful setting, and everyone was really nice. read more

WARNING: If you come here for a music event and choose to eat from the hot dog vendor called Friar's inside the area where most of the food is, beware of an older man with grown out grey hair, beard, and glasses that works there. He seemed to have a negative attitude about working there and I later found that he charged me $26 for one hot dog and a pacifico beer. He told me it would be $15 but after the event, I checked my bank record and found that I was charged $26. Foolish of me to not take a good look before I swiped my card but still, I get the feeling I'm not the only one he overcharged, judging from his attitude. Other than that, the venue's great for music events. I love that I can sit in the grassy hill away from the crowd and still get a good view and sound from the stage. read more

Sometimes, when the game is getting a little boring, I love heading out to the Park at the Park and grabbing a seat on the hill. There's so much space and I love the laid back vibe in the outfield. On friday nights, the Park at the Park is host to different themed events such as beerfest, cocktailfest and party at the park. They are so much fun! During beerfest, they have tons of different breweries come out. You can buy a $5 ticket and take it to any of the breweries to get a beer. They also usually have fun photo booths set up and it's a lot of fun! When there aren't games, you can come into the park to play and walk around. I babysit in the area and the 3-year old I watch loves to come to the park! She enjoys playing in the playground and running through the grass. It's a great spot to walk around, especially downtown. read more

Very well maintained park. The highlights are the statue of Tony Gwynn on the hill overlooking the stadium with all his achievements. Unique in that the public can walk right up to the outfield wall and sit down in patio chairs!!!! Very well done!!! More baseball parks should have something like this!!!
