Those who know me, knows I love my…read moreMediterranean and Mid-East Foods and have been to quite a lot of places - minus going to the mid-east! :) My most recent trip is to Reco Shawarma. It's a long way away from my place but it was worth the drive. The delish food can not be compared to any of those chain places that's been making their way around. You know the one that's selling shawarma with basketball players... I guess marketing knows their target audience - I for one don't get it. If I was a world class athlete, why would I eat plastic food. Go figure... and like I always do for some reason... I digress! LOL! Let's get back to Reco! Reco is a family owned and run business that's less than a month old. Though we are in the middle of a pandemic and lockdowns are stressful on small businesses, they decided it's time to open. They feel that fresh quality food will keep the customers happy and the doors open. That's what I call confidence in one's product! I wish them the best because I am definitely HAPPY! Everything is basically inhouse made and prepared fresh. The dips, salads, and dressing are all made on the premise. The meats are cut and seasoned by the staff and cooked over REAL CHARCOAL grills. Let's bring traditional cooking and flavours back! Oh... even the baklava is made traditionally and in house - I think I bit my lip thinking about this while writing this review [insert teary eye emoticon - and when will YELP allow emoticons!!!!???] Falafel lovers... their falafel is probably one of the best I've had - seriously! The outside crust is crispy and the inside is moist and tasty. They have a secret blend but if you are a true mid-east lover - you can guess what the ingredients are... I DID and probably the only one so far! Nailed it! Just call me the Fantastic Falafel Foodie! What can I say, I strive for perfection in my Foodie Studies! LOL! :D The staff here is the friendliest and warmest of people. I am jealous of all you West Dwellers as you have quite the gem of a place for you to get great quality and tasting food. During this Pandemic and Lockdown, it's important to help support our local and independent businesses. I've been going to many new and existing business to support them. Let's all do what we can or we may be left with eating Clown Food and wearing Paper Crowns while making a Run For the Border - and no one wants that! CHEERS!!!

I recommend their Mix Grill ... includes Chicken, Lamb and Kofta and 2 sides for $19.00. And you can't go wrong with The chicken Shawarma on rice The chicken Shaklee is tender and so flavourful. I also recommend their homemade mushroom soup There is a selection of vegetarian dips and salads for $9,90. The portions here are huge and reasonable. If you are in the area.. If you held a frozen pillsbury cookie tube, that's how small it is. We ordered a Chicken $5 and a Falafel $5 wrap. My order was everything with garlic sauce and hot sauce. The taste was okay, very happy they has no MSG. But the lettuce, tomato, cucumber, onion, cabbage ingredients very very little in the chicken wrap and I think my Falafel wrap was made wrong - swapped with the other box order. This new store opened in November and integrates the ability to online order but there is no pay function. So on arrival the order was not made until I showed up (which is a 6min drive from my workplace so it would have been nice to have it ready to pick up). The online function is supposed to help make less mistakes with order by providing the location order in advance but I feel like my order would have been better received verbally. :/ It was a two man operation with one guy making and one guy taking payments. The guy taking the payments touched his mask a lot. Washrooms were closed for guest, so for anyone with a weak bladder this location may not be accessible. It saddens me when I arrive to a take out location without washrooms available for handwashing, especially when you're eating finger foods. This location did not have hand sanitizer available for patrons. It's a rough first experience, but my bookkeeper said she liked it. So gotta give this place another try in the future.

We had the goat roti, beef roti, vegetable roti and doubles. All of them were so tasty. The only thing that I would caution is that they have a lot of spice. Even level 2 was very, very spicy. I got level four for my goat roti and it was too spicy for me. However, that didn't stop me from eating it all! We also had catering for their curry chicken and curry chick peas for Christmas dinner. I ordered a falafel, tabbouleh salad and some lentil soup (which I love!) I get a phone call from the restaurant telling me since you pay the bill before the restaurant gets the order, they cannot fulfill my order as is, because i have ordered something that costs extra so they will send the order without the extra thing. The extra thing was an extra squirt of tahini! I have eaten at least one falafel every week of my adult life for 45 years. I HAVE NEVER BEEN CHARGED EXTRA FOR AN EXTRA SQUIRT OF TAHINI! So, okay, i won't get extra tahini. The falafel is bone, dusty dry without a hint of any tahini or garlic sauce (as promised in the order) or any moisture at all. Not enjoyable. The coup de grace was the falafel and tabbouleh were filled with green peas! GREEN PEAS! Don't get me wrong, I LOVE green peas in all of their variations BUT not as a surprise in my middle eastern food, ESPECIALLY since green peas do not appear on the menu as ingredients! Not recommended!

The restaurant is really cute with amazing artwork and decor to admire. THE FOOD: Lentil soup: - The lentil soup was amazing. It was bursting with flavour and one of the best lentil soups I have had in a long time. It was both gluten and dairy free. Falafel - The falafel was the best falafel I have ever had! It was crispy and served with hummus. I really like how the falafels were heart shaped. The presentation was really nice and I would come back to enjoy these. Chicken Platter: My fiancé ordered the chicken platter and he really enjoyed it. The platter comes with salad and hummus. He found the chicken super tender and the salad was delicious. Both of us had hummus and found it robbed mediocre. Halava: - The halava was super sweet and made with pistachio. It tasted delicious and it was the perfect way to end our meal. Would We Return? Upon entering Tomah I was immediately greeted by the young gentleman behind the counter. I was free to sit where I pleased. He immediately brought water and a cup of tea complimentary. The waiter, insisted I try the kibbeh and would bring me one. The food came out promptly, first the muttabal which I can say might be better than when my Syrian mother in law makes it! The Shwarma came out and that was amazing, it was juicy and the spices and dressings where perfect. To my surprise the waiter brought out the lentil soup, kibbeh and falafel to try. The were delectable to say the least. The ambiance during the lunchtime was quiet, however after some time Arabic music was put on, and wasn't too loud, but just right as background noise to enjoy while you eat. The cushions were a Syrian style of sitting with arm rests almost like pillows. I will be back, and I will recommend anyone to come here and get a "Taste of Syria"!
