Our stay at the Rogue Retreat House at Galice Resort was absolutely amazing! From the moment we walked in to get everything settled before the rest of our family arrived, we knew it was the perfect choice for us. Debbie and her crew were incredibly accommodating, and this was easily one of the most well-stocked vacation homes any of us have ever experienced. The facilities were spotless, thoughtfully laid out, and you could truly tell that every detail had been considered to make guests feel comfortable and at home. We also loved the evening bands and food trucks and even incorporated them into our trip planning, which made the whole experience even more fun and relaxing. We went for a ride out Galice Road since we're new to the area. I'd heard that the burgers at the Galice resort were excellent. I have to agree! I was pleasantly surprised to find out they had a grass fed burger. I had the classic burger with lettuce, tomato,!onion and special sauce. It was delicious and you can taste the quality. It came with an actual dill pickle spear, not soggy vinegar pickle chips.We asked for well done french fries which they were and they were also delicious! I could not finish all of mine. They have a lovely deck overlooking the river. This will be my go to burger place when the resort is open. Our server Renee was also excellent. I was in Merlin for a rafting trip, and got a stomach bug just a couple hours before the put-in. The staff found me a clean room, heated it up for me, and waited overtime until my ride was able to pick me up from Portland. The accommodations were warm, clean, and comfortable. Overall a really fun environment for families, friends, couples, or just yourself. My family and I made reservations for this weekend to rent some two men kayaks & 1 large raft. We showed up, they were over booked and could accommodate with either individual kayaks or an additional large raft. We ended up getting 2 large rafts, with one of the rafts being free of charge. They shuttled us to the drop off zones and we're so helpful and friendly in ensuring we had a nice time. My husband and I began our rafting supported hiking trip from Galice Resort and were flabergasted with the lovely service and family atmosphere at the lodge. The food was good and created with love - don't bother with the fancier resorts in the area go have a good down home meal at their cafe. I used to look forward to getting breakfast at Galice Resort before a Wild & Scenic Rogue River launch or when we were in the area doing day trips above the Wild & Scenic section. I looked forward to an Ortega Chile Omelet before each trip. I even have one of my fondest memories there. We did a little day trip from Ennis to Grave Creek. As we passed Galice, we pulled our boats ashore and walked in to the bar for a refreshment. That was fun. Recently; however, their customer service and the quality of their food had really taken a dive. I suppose this could change, but until I hear verified reports, I won't go back in there. I don't even want to go in to buy a beer. Wait staff have been surly if/when they actually come to the table. Last time we were there for breakfast, I had never seen such a small portion of home fries anywhere, and they were way over-salted. The resort also operates a shuttle service. BEWARE! Chances are that they will get your vehicle to Foster Bar, and it's probably most likely it won't be damaged. Last time I use their shuttle service, the driver broke my trailer, left it by the side of "the dirt road" (that's what the note said; didn't even say WHICH dirt road). I was able to find the trailer, and with some help the next day, get it back on the road. I called the resort to find out what dirt road my trailer was on, but they had no idea and couldn't tell me. There never even was an apology. Since that time, I've heard many horror stories about their shuttle service. One that sticks in my memory is from a buddy who got to Foster Bar and his truck was nowhere to be found. He called, and they said, "Oh, that's what these keys are for." They forgot to shuttle his vehicle. They offered to bring it over, but it would be several hours. My buddy was able to stack his raft and gear on another boat/trailer and drive back to Galice. I'm sure they would have preferred to just head out through Powers, but they had to go get the rig. The Galice Resort never offered an apology, and they declined to refund his money EVEN THOUGH THEY NEVER SHUTTLED HIS RIG!!!! Um.... That's why you should pay with a credit card; he was able to dispute the charge and get the card company to credit his account. AVOID AVOID AVOID! So why don't I just give ONE star? Good question. I don't have a decent answer. Maybe it's just since they used to have better service, and I'll hold out hope they can get their shit together at some point in the future. How much we loved this place REALLY surprised us! We had a rental just a few doors down the road, and we loved sauntering over for a drink & live music in the evenings. Burgers & fries were great. Amazing selection of pies made daily. 4 micros on tap. WiFi. Cute birdhouse w baby birds peeking out!!! But the deck is huge & overlooks the rogue river. The vibe is fantastic. Truly. On a clear, cool, cloudy May Saturday I hopped on the Rumble Bee and followed the Rouge River southwest to the Galice Resort for lunch in the cafe-- a favorite spot for travelers riding the road or the river. The blue cheese hamburger was okay. It was what in the 20th Century was called a hamburger deluxe, that is a burger with lettuce, onion, tomato and pickles with blue cheese added. It came with crinkle cut french fries and was not a large portion, but adequate. Located in a rustic old wooden buildings is a small store with mostly souvenirs and items for rafters; there is a large deck with tables and chairs overlooking the river, plus some cabins and a rafting business. read more

I stayed at Galice resort in the lodge after a guided rafting and kayaking trip on the Rogue river. It was quiet, clean, and comfortable but not luxurious. I would stay there again. My one complaint is that the WiFi wasn't working when I was there, so don't count on having WiFi. read more

Stops to eat there after a full day of rafting. Rented the 14' or raft from then as well rafting went great our driver was fun to talk to and very knowledgeable about this area in our river. After getting off the river my partner And I decided to get a bite to eat as we are very active foodies. Ordered steamer clams As an appetizer as well Other items. The steamer clams are what stood out. As my partner has a four-year-old daughter we tend to try her favorite food steamer clams wherever they have them. So we know that when we visit this spot they are a good choice for her. I tried to eat approximately 5 of the clams every time feeling like I was shooting wine back in high school. The alcohol just wasn't cooked off. Truth be told would have caught a buzz had I finished the appetizer. We requested to our waitress to speak to a manager as we were unhappy with one of our Appetizers. Waitress leaves retrieving manager. 1st words out of the manager's mouth were " I heard you ate some clams that you don't want to pay for." I attempted to explain we ate a very small portion of the alcohol soaked clams and just would not be pain for them as they are unsatisfact'ry. She then flexed saying we would pay for them. I asked her to try one of the clams knowing she would understand the point we were Attempting to make. Had we gotten those clams for my partners four-year-old daughter she would have gotten sick and most definitely vomited on the twisting roads home. The manager threw a fit grab the clams and began to Stomp away. I then asked the manager to stop we still wished to order more food just were unhappy with one of the items. I placed an order for some type of chicken sandwich but quickly decided the disrespects and vibe the manager had put off had ruined enough of my day so we left and got food in town. I love the galice resort I have never had an issue with their rental service in very little issues with their restaurant. The female manager completely ruined the day and on such a beautiful float down the river with such negativity and disrespect. I will go again and hope that a customer calling out a manager about uncooked alcohol out of a meal is OK expecially when their chef was right out of high school. read more

Galice Resort is the most popular girl at your school. It's hard to pinpoint why. Maybe GR's parents are rich and she owns all the fun toys. Maybe she's got mad cult of personality skills. But whatever the reason behind her popularity, any recreation commenced goes through GR. Because the game in town is water activity, Galice Resort offers the essentials to enjoy the river practically. They rent out rafts, kayaks, and shuttle service to and from your push-off point. They provide lodging for non-campers and a gift-shop full of quirky merchandise like beer coozies and novelty T-shirts. Plus, with a spot next to a river bank, GR serves up some of the best diner food I've eaten in Oregon. Patty melt heaven, I'm telling you. It helps that everything tastes glorious after pumping the oars and flying through rapids on the Rogue, perhaps a tasty adult beverage or six sloshing around your belly. Then the mean girl tactics come into play. GR, like any worthy queen bee, has minions. And sometimes the minions are lame and clearly disgruntled with their sidekick status or something, because they give attitude as they're trying to adjust your life vest and locate your dry bag. And when GR gets really pissy, she'll pull something completely gestapo. No, she won't murder your family. But she might order the minions to take away your raft as you're eating. Why? Weren't you and GR tight? Because "at this time of the day, you won't make it to the other spot in time. And our shuttle service only goes to this time. And so we'll just snag that raft away from you and cut your trip short, just 'cause. Kisses!" After some deliberation, you get the raft back. But it stings a bit to get on the wrong side of the popular girl. But you and GR will continue to hang out whenever you make it down to Merlin. In spite of anything, you want a girl like that in your corner. She has fun toys. read more

This is my second review for Galice Resort. I saw a couple of one star reviews, but this is so much more than a restaurant. For me it brings back great memories of summers when I was a kid...a long time ago...the 1950's. YIKES! The food is good, I enjoyed the Rogue River Sandwich and my husband loved the ribs. We've had other items we liked as well. Is it fine dining with five Michelin Stars...no. But you can feel comfortable in shorts and flip-flops, laugh at Trivial Pursuit at the table, watch rafters on the river, chat with the people at the next table and watch an osprey dive into the river looking for its dinner. Sometimes food isn't the most important thing at a restaurant. It's a feeling you get as you enjoy your meal and the time spent there. This review was for the restaurant. We took the jet boat excursions from Grants Pass which stops here for lunch. My son and I both had burgers and they were super tasty. Plus the fries on plate were FAB! I was very happy with the service, menu options and fact that they had clean restrooms. It would be difficult to find a less inspired menu. Burgers, deep fried chicken strips, oh, wait, there is a veggie burger on the menu. Straight from the freezer at Costco I would bet. We were greeted upon entering the place and assured that the dining room was open. There was no one inside, the action was definitely on the lovely deck overlooking the river and rafting activities. This is nice, I thought. We seated ourselves, as instructed. After five or six minutes without anyone greeting us I got up, walked past two waitresses, and found myself a menu. A few minutes later Mouseley flagged down a server who had simply not noticed that we were there. We got the "Where'd you come from" look. That's when we learned that we'd just missed breakfast by a couple of minutes. We were ok with having a burger and both ordered the regular burger, no cheese, and a side salad, her's with 1000 island, mine with blue cheese dressing. I was starving by the time our food arrived. The top bun of my burger had split in two but was deem to still be useful by the kitchen staff. The lettuce and tomato were wilted, but serviceable. The salad was a joke, head lettuce chopped, a little red lettuce. A garden salad with no tomato; shame. Dressing was right out of a bottle of Costco's cheapest. Could barely taste a difference between the 1000 and the Blue. But the view was very nice, and the weather even better. On the way out I noticed they had a small bar; would have had a beer if I'd known. So, my suggestion is to eat before going to the Galice Resort. Then seat yourself on the deck and have a beer or a glass of wine. If the food was on par with the view, then they'd have something. read more

The rafting was great fun and not scary. The people were all very nice. We didn't like the hamburger much but the fries were fine the two person kayak was $75 for the full day rental. A group of us went here on May 28, 2014 for dinner and the wine tasting. I must say the food was awful. I ordered the Widow Maker Burger, which was OK aside from receiving only the hamburger and bun. There was no lettuce, no tomato, no onion, no anything else. Just a hamburger patty with a few jalapenos and a bun. The rest of the group ordered the halibut with rice, which was reported to be terrible, rubbery, and bland. One lady thought it to be so bland she covered her fish in French's yellow mustard just to add some flavor. Overall the food was not great at all. On a lazy, sunny Sunday afternoon, a great place - even for the raft-impaired - to hang on the deck with an Umpqua soft-serve cone (or maybe even a frosty beverage or two) enjoying live music and watching the more ambitious set doing rafting sorts of things. I had heard of the restaurant from the radio and wanted to check it out for myself. The drive and scenic views were great, so I was disappointed with the restaurant. The service was slow even with four wait staff and only half full. I had their baby back rids and they were awful. The ribs were dry to the point you could consider the meat jerky. The corn on the cob was over cooked. The dinner salad was iceberg lettuce with over rip tomatoes. Then I had their dessert a strawberry shortcake with soft serve ice cream. What I got was shortbread in a strawberry water covered with sliced strawberries and ice cream. My recommendation to the owner is if you are going to operate a restaurant you might what to hire a cook that has actual experience cooking. The wait staff was friendly. This is a charming lodge & restaurant on the Rogue river in southwest Oregon . I just returned from a kayak/camping trip using this lodge as a base. The food is excellent , I stayed in a charming & well appointed lodge all to myself but most of all the staff was super . The owner personally helped facilitate my shuttle back to the Medford airport which was delayed , & made me feel my situation was no big deal, & it all worked out easily due to her efforts. read more

In October 2108, we hired their shuttle service for $150. Their employee accidentally locked his phone in our truck. He broke into it causing $2500 in damage (according to two auto body estimates). Debbie, the owner, spoke to him on the phone in our presence and he admitted to doing it. She said she wanted to somehow make up for it. She did nothing. Every summer, our company has an "Adventure". This year was rafting down the Rogue with lunch on the patio at the Galice Resort. #1. Staff was so professional and happy to greet us. #2. The life jackets are washed every evening. Plus!!! #3. The shuttle driver unloaded all of our equipment with ease. Gave us a safety talk that was very easy to understand. #4. The River was a blast! #5. Cocktails and lunch on the back porch was amazing. The Ribs are awesome. Hamburgers delicious. And they make a Great Bloody Mary! Very affordable for a group setting. Amazing location and highly recommend rafting in general but the service here is unfortunately highly lacking. The whole team that gets you outfitted with your raft had an attitude that was very uncalled for. I initially wrote it off and tried to have sympathy for those guys since they are dealing with customers all day but they continued to talk down to our group. After our raft trip we decided to have dinner on their deck. Wonderful view but again, not very good service. Our waitress was kind and fast but she wore her mask over her chin instead of covering her mouth and nose. Also 2/3's of our family got sick after eating here. I really hope the management see's this and takes this review into consideration because it's such a lovely spot! read more

A great summer day in this neck of the woods starts out by rafting the Rogue, put in at Hog Creek Boat Landing with the Galice Resort as your final destination. Relax on the deck with a cold brew or cocktail after your adventure. This run can be done in a couple of hours or you could take 6 hours just chillin' on the River ... with a few good riffles along the way ! The atmosphere at Galice is casual and relaxing. Great family dining and food that's "made with love". They offer home style meals including giant country breakfasts, Sunday brunch, hamburger platters, dinner buffet, ice cream and deserts. You will walk away full. From May through September they offer live music by local bands on the deck. Your rafting party can "shuttle" a vehicle down to the resort and park for the day so you have your ride back to Hog Creek (or wherever you put in). Galice Resort also offers shuttles and rafting excursions along with overnight accommodations. Their gift shop offers a variety of well made Rogue River souvenirs and sells the basics; water bottles, sunscreen, candy, flip-flops, etc. read more

Absolutely HORRIBLE. $260/night for the cottage. Dirty dishes in the dishwasher, bugs EVERYWHERE, dirty ancient sheets and blankets that were circa 1960, SMELLED, shared a wall with the communal laundry room and communal hot tub. If you're a real river person, you'll love the Galice Resort. Not only is it located right on the Rogue River, one of Oregon's best, but it is the perfect place to start or finish any variety of ways to experience the river--rafting, hiking, or just renting a room or house and partying for a week or two. If you're rafting, it's a great place to make headquarters before or after your float; same with hiking. If you're just going to the Rogue to relax and have some fun, I recommend getting a large group of friends together (10-20ish) and renting the Riverview House, a five bedroom mansion with tons of sleeping space, all the amenities, pool table, hot tub, decks and more. At around $600 it's a steal for a group sharing the cost. The restaurant and bar has an awesome deck along the river, and the menu is full of yummy choices from burgers to fish and more. The prices were great, the beer selection wide, and the staff was great. I'm a real river guy, and I loved my stay at Galice Resort. read more

I have been a customer with Galice Resort for 15 years, and generally had great service with them. Unfortunately this year they got one of the cars in my river trip stolen. We paid them for their shuttle service (where they drive your car between Almeda Bar and Foster bar for river trips), but the car never arrived at Foster Bar. When we talked to them about it, we were told that they had no record of receiving our car or the keys to our car. We have the receipt, and they still say that they accept no responsibility for the car. So we had to drive the two hours back to Almeda Bar and Galice to look for the car (leaving several members of our party stranded at foster bar). Unfortunately the car was stolen in the time we were on the river. So now one of our trip members is completely out a car and the Galice Resort is not just not acknowledging that they accepted the keys to the car, they didn't even offer us a refund on the shuttle. I don't normaly post on yelp. I am doing so now MOSTLY so that when they DO find the keys to the car, they can message us and give us an update. Again, Galice, if you do find the car or the keys, PLEASE let me know. This is a very sad thing for us. We have used and loved Galice for years, and its sad to know that we can never use their service again until they make this right. I hate to have to say bad things about a place I love, but I don't know what else to do. read more
