OH BOY, STUCCO BOY!…read more I met with Jereme (the owner of Stucco Boy/Builder Boy) to discuss an exterior refinishing project. We've got some TEX-COTE that the prior owners added that is failing and in need of repair. To their credit, Jereme is knowledgeable about TEX-COTE and the company even has a landing page on their website describing how to fix a failing application. They offer services to repair and re-apply, and Jereme mentioned this would be an option for us, in addition to a more involved re-plastering. Jereme said he'd break out different options for us. Despite Jereme's demeanor coming off a bit slick and salesy, them being a local company with experience with TEX-COTE gave me some confidence. I received a proposal that I felt was reasonably priced. Before selecting the company for my project, I had some follow-up questions I asked the office staff via email regarding coordinating the project with other work being done-namely a re-roof project that I'd be undertaking. After a little back-and-forth, Jereme called me directly. I was able to ask my questions about coordination with the roofing company, and he put my mind at ease. He described how the roofing company would handle tear-off and paper the roof, and then Stucco Boy would come in and water blast and prep. He was pretty specific about his recommendations and that fully addressed my questions. He said that I'd be able to put them into contact with the roofer to work out the specifics and "when roofing companies hear that, they are relieved"-indicating to me that there'd be a proactive direct coordination that would help streamline the process. WONDERFUL! After receiving HOA approval for the project, I reached out to Builder Boy and said I'd like to proceed with them. I followed up with a few questions including one about timing and order of operations to coordinate with the roofing and solar to take place (roughly, at this point) in January. The responses I got from the office staff to my questions were different than what Jereme had indicated; instead of coordinating with the roofers, they said that it would be better for them to do their work after the roofers had completed. There was some back-and-forth where I tried to reconcile the differences in the office staff's answers/recommendations of doing work after everything else was done and what Jereme had indicated to me on our earlier phone call. Two days after not hearing anything back, I received a phone call from Jereme. He indicated to me that he'd heard from his team that I was "frustrated" and that I had taken an "aggressive tone" with his staff and he hoped to understand my frustration but also see if there was a path forward. He indicated that he cares about his staff; the implication he was stepping in to shield them from unfair treatment. I told him that I was confused, and asked if he'd read the emails-my hope was to ensure we were on the same page about what my issue actually was and for me to understand what about my correspondence was "aggressive." He replied he'd "skimmed" the email-so I asked him if I'd be able to read it to him--much of my confusion stemmed from what the office staff was suggesting and how it was much different than what Jereme had indicated regarding coordinating steps with the roofing company. He responded "I get it, you're a good guy" as if my primary intent in reading him the email to was somehow clear my name, and he followed up with "I'd rather not live in the past and instead just move forward." Wait, seriously?! You imply I'm mistreating your staff, you're only vaguely aware of what my issue actually is and when I attempt to talk in specific terms about either of those things you suddenly want to "move forward"? I tried to explain to Jereme the disconnect, and how the staff's recommendation wasn't what he and I had discussed earlier, so I was confused. He said "it can be done either way" and "it's up to the customer"- but kept insisting that his staff was correct in their suggestion without acknowledging it was different than what he himself earlier had suggested, and that was the source of my confusion. The whole time it felt like Jereme was trying to gaslight me, and whenever I tried to be specific about our conversation or clarify what my issue actually was, he'd deflect and say dismissively "it's up to you; just tell us when to show up and we'll be there." I was pretty floored at this point and couldn't shake the feeling that I was getting hustled by this guy. I knew that as he kept insisting he wanted to "move forward" without actually talking about the nature of the problem, it was a sign that this wasn't the kind of company, and Jereme the kind of person, I could trust. So I calmly told him that it was clear to me it wouldn't be a good fit, he said "OK," and that was the extent of my experience with Builder Boy. Jereme: because you didn't bother reading the email exchange before, I posted it here for your convenience.

From…read morethe very beginning, Ben was professional, responsive, and incredibly helpful in guiding us through every step of the process. He helped design our new kitchen - which we absolutely love - and made sure we were always on the same page by meeting with us in person multiple times. His communication was excellent, his pricing was fair, and he completed everything right on schedule. The scope of our project was huge: Ben fully renovated our kitchen and living room, installed skylights, replaced the roof, added new stucco to the exterior, built and installed two beautiful bathrooms with custom vanities, replaced several windows and a patio door, and installed a new garage door. The work also involved major structural updates, including a new foundation and footings to support the roof as we opened up walls and expanded the space. Despite the complexity, Ben handled everything with great care and attention to detail. We are beyond happy with the finished result and would absolutely work with Ben and A2Z Home Remodel again. Highly recommend!

I have lived in this house for 36 years, raising my family here as a single mom. For many years I…read moredreamed of making upgrades, but I was always afraid to take the leap, especially with so many contractors constantly urging me to redo the roof. It never felt right, and the prices were never manageable. Efficient changed that. From the very beginning, their team -- Aaron, Alvin, and Anthony -- gave me the education and confidence I needed. They explained the products thoroughly, walked me through the process step by step, and were completely transparent about what was worth investing in and what wasn't. That honesty showed me they truly stood behind their superior products, something I didn't see from other companies. The sales representatives who came to the door were also respectful and not pushy. They explained that the estimate they provided could be used now or in the future, which made me feel at ease instead of pressured. Their approach stood out compared to competitors who often felt more focused on making a sale than truly helping. When it came to the work itself, Alvin and Anthony listened to what I wanted and made it happen, while Aaron orchestrated the entire process with care and precision. Over the course of this project, we were able to do what I once thought was impossible: a brand-new roof, a beautiful CoolTech paint job, a custom redesign of our front door and garage gates (which was especially challenging because of settling issues in our older home), updated plumbing for half the house, and even an entirely new HVAC system. For decades we had only an old 1920s floor heater, which they removed and replaced, patching the area with new hardwood flooring that matched seamlessly with the rest of the house. That level of attention showed me that this company goes above and beyond without nickel-and-diming their customers. Most importantly, their financing partnerships made everything achievable. Mike helped me navigate a process that used the equity of my home instead of relying on credit, which as a homeowner with limited credit options was a huge relief. Their prices were truly unbeatable compared to anything I had seen before. With the support of my daughter, I finally felt comfortable moving forward. I am so grateful to Efficient and their wonderful team for making this long-held dream a reality.

Writing this now because I just saw an outlet underneath the sink that's not at all mounted to the wall and was reminded of how ridiculous this whole ordeal was. They'd come maybe 2 times a week, maybe less, sit in the driveway and wait for each other for a while, and they'd always forget what they were supposed to do. Then they'd say "ah ya we remember now, gotta go to Home Depot" and take another 1-2 hours. The pace of work was incredibly slow. When they were redoing our kitchen, we came home and saw that the main handyman had bought cabinets for the sink that opened straight into the fridge and stove, so you could barely open them. It was on a corner, so clearly a corner / lazy Susan cabinet was needed. Delayed the job by however many days. They cracked the sink they put in, and there's carvings in the countertops from where they messed up with sloppy cutting. When they installed the AC window units, they stained the window panes, sink, and the outside of the house with the insulation foam and didn't attempt to clean it until I asked. They didn't get much up; still stained. They didn't put calking around the countertop they put in behind the sink. There were a bunch of other times where similar things happened that I had to ask them to redo it or do a part of the job they'd missed.

Then, I got a slab leak. No choice but to do something. I have two bathrooms. At the time, they could have been on "world's worst bathrooms"; hideous 1970's "décor" with disco lighting and stained, pattern linoleum flooring. The shower stall had a plastic, accordion-style door with magnets on each end (who DOES that?!). I figured, whatever a contractor does, can't be worse. Then, I found Zachi of S & B Construction on yelp. Best thing I ever did for my home was to call Zachi. My house and my quality of enjoyment of it, and my view of what a contractor can be, have completely and utterly changed. I could tell from the moment he came over to do the bid he was great, and he only exceeded all my expectations throughout the job. He and his team completely gutted both baths, and now I have two bathrooms that are essentially luxury hotel baths. They are beautifully done (everyone says so!). He put in stone tile showers (with glass accent tile - it's so awesome!), a deep soaking tub, custom glass shower doors, stone floors, wood vanities with granite countertops, and custom lighting. They're bright and colorful (that's my taste!), and it makes me happy just to enter the rooms. The job was done from start to finish in three weeks. Yes, that fast! That included Zachi arranging for the plumbing inspections and everything. We never had to worry about any of it! Zachi was there every step of the way, from design (he met up with us to buy the materials - it was great!) to finishing touches, and we could not have done it without him. Actually, his intuition is terrific, because he even had some better ideas than we did! I liked all the workers on his team. They were polite and courteous, very hard working, and always on time. Zachi was constantly supervising their progress, as well as always available and responsive to questions. Here's what I'm certain of. Zachi wants the customer to be happy. I asked lots of questions and wanted specific things. I only ever had to ask for something once; Zachi ALWAYS remembered without my reminding him of things and always got them done! Even things I just mentioned once during the bid got done. This is important, too. He always left us with a "usable" house during the renovation. Although he did both baths, he staggered the demolition and renovation, so we always had the basic facilities. At night and especially on weekends, he'd make sure the house was cleaned up enough for us to do what we needed. Budget? The job was done to the budget on the nose (I went over by a few hundred, because I picked out an extra accent tile), even though things happened (e.g., the plumber had to put in an access panel for one of the showers). The budget was extremely detailed (way more than any others we had been given), so you knew exactly what to expect. Amazing! On a personal level, Zachi is smart, super nice and pleasant to work with. I can't thank Zachi enough. Bad day at work, I head to my gorgeous soaking tub, the world falls away and aaaahhhhh! Can't beat that. I love my house. Actually, it's more of a home now. He was fast and professional and in and out of my house 3 times within 3 days in total and both sets of shower sliding doors are now fixed. He charges by hours, but his charge was very ethical and reasonable. I felt that he undercharged me. We hadn't used one of the showers for years because the shower doors were falling apart, so I am so grateful that it's finally fixed.
