I haven't been this satisfied for a looong time!…read more Yesterday, being a holiday, I could barely find anywhere to go that was open. When I saw the special for this place I stopped by and begged! They were so kind (and I'm guessing it was the manager) that they agreed to take me in on such a busy day. Parking was going to be waaaay better than dt. Charmaine was lovely. She spent about an hour and agreed to add some curl to my wavy hair that usually looks frizzy when I do it. Nakry was equally as great, and I felt really lucky to have had both of them style it. Today, my hair is still bouncing with curl and is neither sticky nor stiff. As with all "finds" I was reluctant to write this, except that they were so incredibly wonderful. My stylist was a former Suki's member, which happened to be my former salon. Next time I need my hair cut/coloured, I'm going to give this place a chance. It's classy and the stylists are all nice and cordial. They really made my day! Total cost $48 dollars with over a 20% tip and included a $20 conditioning treatment and scalp massage. So if any man happens to be reading this...now you know why we women expect you to pay for us on a date if we get "dolled" up. It has nothing to do with chivalry or women's lib; little do you know that we've already spent at least $300 before the night has begun.

I tried this hair salon for the first time yesterday and was recommended to go with Agnes, I was…read morequite happy with the results! This salon offered a selection of drinks, as well as secure space next to your seat for your personal belongings - the key is offered as a bracelet for you to put on so if you go off for a hair wash you won't ever need to worry about your valuables. The ambiance and feel of the place is very spacious and calm, loved the high ceiling and the ample space between each work stations. I'd say some mood music might make it even better. I gave a few comments about what I hoped to achieve with my hair, and Agnes was really skilful in helping me improve on what I originally had in mind. She also taught me a few tips about how to style my hair better as I blow dry. She's definitely got talent in styling!

My hairstylist was Goldie. She brought me to the back to wash my hair but the seat was dirty. So…read moreshe led me to the seat next to it which was wet. Then she wiped the seat for me. Why didn't she simply bring me to the adjacent clean seat? Then she told me she needed to wash my hair twice without telling me why. Usually, the hairstylist would wash my hair once. Sitting there for a prolonged period was uncomfortable. When she wiped my ears with the towel, she harshly wiped off the foundation on my face as well. When she dried my hair with the towel, she pulled down the back of my shirt at great length and I felt my shirt label had flipped over. Moreover, she pulled one strand of hair from one side of my head across my forehead to the other side unnecessarily. This made me uncomfortable indeed. This never happened at any hair salon. I was shocked that she was so crass. Usually, the hairstylist would be gentle to customers. Furthermore, her scissors touched my lips when she was cutting my hair. It was dangerous and unhygienic. So I asked her to give me a facial tissue so I could clean my lips and I told her that her scissors touched my lips. She looked surprised and apologized. Her carelessness was unacceptable. When she held the mirror to show my hair at the back after she finished cutting, she did not show me the full view. Then she said sarcastically, "You can't see? Do you want me to take a photo for you?" Her attitude was atrocious. It was suspicious because she did not show me the length of my hair after she finished cutting. Also, she kept curling my hair using the brush with great effort, and she twisted my hair to form a bun on top of my head. I did not ask for curly or wavy hair (no hairstylist did that to me in the past). Later, I realized that the length of one side of my hair was a little longer than the other side. That was why she did not show me the full view of my hair and she just went straight to blowdrying my hair. That also explained why she curled and twisted my hair because she did not want to cut my hair (she did not want to do her job). I told her to trim a bit more because that was not the style that I wanted (I already showed her the photo of the hairstyle). When I looked at my hair carefully, she made fun of me and said, "Do you want to comb your hair?" and she gave me a comb. Who would treat customers that way? After she trimmed my hair, the hairstyle was still not right. I asked her to give me some layers. I realized that she did not want to give me layers by saying, "You did not really have layers, do you?" when I sat down at the beginning. Instead of saying that, she should ask me if I wanted layers. She said that to discourage me from getting layers. Moreover, she kept telling me to move back and forth when I was seated for both washing my hair and cutting my hair. If she is skillful, she should not need the customer to move constantly. She took a long time to blowdry my hair. I saw that the length was not right. Then she said, "The style is like that because of the blowdrying. Do you want me to blowdry it more?" I asked her to cut a little more and then she said, "I can't really cut it." That just means she was using blowdrying as an excuse for not cutting my hair and to disguise the wrong length; she was deceitful. In addition, she left a lot of hair on my shoes. She only blew them away when my sister noticed that. This could have been avoided if the hairstylist was attentive. Overall, the price just reflects the hair products that they use and the interior design but not the quality of service nor the skill of the hairstylist. She was not professional at all. Their regular customers must be their friends or relatives. P.S. They did not ask us to put our purse into their cabinet which had a key attached. They usually store customer's purse there and let customer keep the key.

This has been an extremely traumatizing experience, overall. I honestly don't think I could trust a hairdresser again for a very long time. They refuse to refund the full amount, and their salon coordinator was of course extremely rude and unhelpful. Basically "we don't care, we won't apologize or do anything but lie about it to cover our own ass, we will only refund a small amount. Okay bye!" DON'T get your hair colored here!! We had just moved from Halifax to Vancouver, right into the middle of always-has-nice-haircuts West…read moreEnd. Our first stop? Juliano's Hair Salon on Davie. I'm not too particular about haircuts -- a bad haircut will be a good haircut in a couple weeks -- but a few things I like: 1. A trim is a trim. This means that I don't want half my head to be hacked off or a conservative estimate of four inches. I want my style to stay the same but not so the same that I need another trim in less than two weeks. 2. I've come to the hairstylist for a haircut. This means that I don't think I could do it as well as them. Therefore, don't ask me if I want my second layer of bangs to frame my face. I probably didn't even know I had a second layer of bangs let alone that the layer can frame my face. Just do your thing, I'm sure it'll be great. 3. Make it great. If you don't have experience, just warn me. "You might end up looking like that cat wearing the lime helmet." Fine, I'll take the risk. But don't take the risk for me! I've come to you for your expertise, skill, and good judgment. Please make your judgment good. Don't make art with my hair. Don't make eighties throwback. I still have a day job. 4. Cheap! Okay, maybe not cheap cheap, but the price of a haricut seems inversely proportional to its distance from Yaletown. I love Yaletown, as does anyone who has ever seen its steel and brick lofts, but my day job does not pay enough for its haircuts. I have long hair, so I understand that it is time-consuming and labour intensive. But wash, cut, style, and blow-dry needs to be less than $100. Really. Juliano's? I hate to make comparisons, but one day they were closed. My husband needed a haircut. He went across the street to Maximus. It looked good. He suggested it to me. I have gotten every hair cut, colour, style, and even my wedding hair done at Maximus ever since. Maximus is as his Latin root suggests: great. His salon is simple with stylists from all over the world. He doesn't match his furniture to his wall colours, but he does offer you wine, water, tea, or coffee. His team chats you up, the easy-going atmosphere calms you down. And, on your wedding day, he opens up the store five hours early to accommodate your schedule. A trim by Maximus lasts me months. The style is always right and the prices are competitive and fair. They take their time with details and they write it down so you don't have to tell them the next time you come in. Thanks to Maximus, I'm now an always-has-nice-haircut West Ender.
