The admin staff was so nice; Liz and Iris treated me with respect and made me feel right at ease. My consultation was done by Dr. Luke Cantamessa. He was so thorough and listened to me stating my issues. I needed the procedure to be done right away. Luckily, Dr. Kim Menhenick had an early opening. I took it and I'm so happy that I did. She was so professional and nice and made me feel so comfortable. In fact, I didn't feel anything, no pain. She talked me through the entire procedure which helped my anxiety. They used a CBCT scan to perfectly identify where and what the problem was. Then they used this amazing machine called Gentle Wave which cleans out the inside of the tooth. Not many practices have such a machine. The assistant, Sherry, was also very professional. She handled those instruments with such ease! When the procedure was over, Dr. Menhenick went over what to expect. She also said that if I had any questions to contact the office. On my way out I grabbed a granola bar and a juice box, complimentary of course! My whole experience was top rated. No one wishes for a root canal. However, if you need one this is the practice where to do it. They have three offices; DC, Bethesda, and Rockville. The other doctors on staff seem amazing as well. Top quality all around. As unusual of an experience a root canal can be (and in mine she encountered surprises that she overcame seamlessly) she somehow made it pleasant and relaxing. Afterwards, she warned me of the pain that I would experience when the local anesthesia wore off, but I only feel a mild tenderness in the area now that it has. If you need a root canal, I would highly recommend her. You won't regret the choice.

Dr. Yelamanchi looked at me for 1 min, said "yes, you need a root canal, but unfortunately I don't have the time to do it now so you'll need to schedule another appointment." What a joke. That was the whole point of the appointment - to get the root canal. Does he not realize that patients have jobs and can't just take days off work for no reason? Consulting doctor recommended nitrous oxide sedation for my anxiety, which the other doctor then tried to talk me out of as he is inexperienced working with patients under sedation. The office staff did not explain the costs fully and told me that part of the cost of the procedure would be "written off" which was not reflected on my statement and I am waiting to find out if this is true or if I will be billed for this portion. My military ID and benefits number ARE proof of insurance. I actually spoke with a customer representative from Tricare after this disastrous dental appointment and she confirmed that the only proof I needed was my ID and benefits number (some providers will also ask for the sponsor's DOB and SSN), and she said that providers can verify my insurance by calling their number or through their website. I have had Tricare for years and visited dentists all across the country, and all of them have not had a problem verifying my insurance, even when they weren't in network. I want to reiterate that I did nothing wrong and that the problem was and is Dr. Eghtesadi's ignorance about insurance and unwillingness to listen. Dr. Eghtesadi was not "direct," "to-the-point," or "candid." He was rude, patronizing, and caustic. If you've ever had someone try to "help" you or "teach" you something when really they just wanted to take their emotions out on you or assert their imagined superiority, then you will know what I mean. Dr. Eghtesadi can try to rewrite what happened all he wants, but I was there, and he was shockingly rude and angry. I'm curious what he thinks my "undertone" could be, but I'm just a person who had a bad experience and wrote a review about it. I find it interesting that a day after I posted my review, someone with a new account who had never posted any other reviews to Yelp posted a five star review for this business. There are similarly suspicious reviews on Google. I wrote in my review about this business' shady review practices, and now there are more suspicious reviews? How are people supposed to trust that the positive reviews for this business are legitimate?

I have fibromyalgia, and have lived with it for a long time. When I was young, I allowed dental professionals to badger me out of using nitrous for major dental procedures. Never again. I thought Olney Endodontics would be a safe place because they were equipped to offer appropriate pain management. Instead, the doctor responded with an incredulous vocal tone to my descriptions of very basic, very common aspects of fibromyalgia, stuff any layperson could have found out in five minutes and that every health care professional ought already to know. She asked me four times, with increasing incredulity, "But what do you believe nitrous will do for you?" And when I told her what it was like to experience a fibromyalgic flare-up, she replied, "So you need the nitrous for your anxiety?" It was the most old-school all-in-your-head dismissal, something I hadn't heard put so baldly in years. When I told her I was ready to walk out, she responded, "I treat my patients very well." Manifestly not true, because I had come in as a patient, and she had just treated me dismissively, repeatedly. There was one correct answer, which was an apology. There was exactly one correct response she could have made when called on her behavior: an apology. Instead she doubled down on her defensiveness, and then told me the problem was that I had come in a few minutes late, and they had not booked a long enough appointment booked my appointment so tightly that my being a few minutes late meant they could not use nitrous. That's inconvenient, but if they'd told me the truth about it in the first place, I'd have been fine with rescheduling. Instead, the doctor, as she basically admitted, had been trying to gaslight me into agreeing to do the root canal without the nitrous for the sake of her schedule. And here's the thing that is shocking, and yet which no person with chronic pain will find surprising: gaslighting a disabled patient into undergoing a substantial treatment without a needed accommodation, when the only reason that patient had come to her was because of the availability of that accommodation, was so normal to her that she could admit to it without embarrassment. Like, obviously, that's what a person in her position should do, right? Because she followed up that admission by repeating, "I treat my patients very well." Holding onto that belief was clearly important to her, which I guess is to her credit, but she had an opportunity to make that true by listening and changing her behavior, by attempting even a little bit, even belatedly, to make the choices she should have made in the first place. It's possible, I guess based on other reviews, that this practice might adequately meet the needs of non-disabled patients. I would urge anyone who has a disability to look elsewhere.
