We had a new system installed in our home in July 2015 as a result of our 30 year old system finally giving in. The technicians were wonderful and the service was great but BUYER BEWARE with financing such a large purchase. GAC gave the option to finance our new system for 12 months with no interest through Mariner Finance. We made the mistake of going this route which cost us an extra $540 dollars as a result. GAC issued the loan and gave us a "guidance document" to fill out he forms. Once we fill out the forms, GAC completes the loan and sends to Mariner Finance. The guidance document and forms for the loan were completely misleading, and while i thought I was complying with the terms of the loan, we ended up being charged interest. When bringing this issue to GAC, they acknowledged it was misleading, that they were sorry and would offer us free membership to their service club for a year, but would not return the money that was stolen from us. When I suggested that GAC should take more responsibility for the loan they were selling they claimed it was a "tall order" to expect them to install the system AND be knowledgeable and forthcoming about the loan they were selling. The process is completely predatory and it hurts my feelings to say I will never use their company again. I really felt in good hands with GAC in my home and with doing business with them regarding the loan. I wasn't as discerning as I should have been. So be on your toes! They aren't in it for you. read more

My wife and I just used GAC to do HVAC repairs which were the result of a home inspection for a house sale. Not only were they courteous and professional, they disagreed with some of the inspector's "dings" to our system and suggested repairs. Had they only wanted money I doubt GAC would have done that and would have completed and charged for the unneeded work. Technician Edmund was great and did a fantastic job explaining the issues and quickly and professionally completed the needed fixes. I plan to use GAC again in the new house and hope all their technicians are as friendly and helpful. read more

We bought a house with a 24 year old furnace and air conditioner knowing that we would have to replace them soon after we bought the house. Instead of waiting until they actually broke I decided to shop around while they were still functioning. I called four different companies to come give me quotes and see what they thought I needed. From the moment the first representative from GAC walked in the door I was impressed (Fritz). He explained everything he thought was needed and gave us tips for dealing with heating and cooling a split level house. Our quote was emailed to us in 24 hours and gave us three different options of equipment. Other companies came by and I mentioned things that Fritz had seen and they thought they were all good ideas and would later incorporate them into the quotes (none actually realized the issues on their own). GAC's quotes were all in the same ballpark as the other companies but the professionalism and attention to detail is what sold me. We signed the contract and had a second employee come out about a week before the job was to start to take measurements and answer any questions I had. I forget this mans name but he was equally professional and knowledgable. On the day of the install the crew of about 5 members showed up first thing in the morning. They were all friendly, professional, and more than willing to answer any questions I had. I left them to their work and within 6 hours my new air conditioner and furnace were installed. You would not have known they were even there with their amazing clean up job. The lead technician went through the paper work with me, showed me around the new units, and trained me on my new wifi enabled thermostat. They even took care of sending in the rebates for Pepco for me. I knew that choosing GAC was the right decision when I signed the contract and the company proved me right. I highly recommend GAC for any job! read more

Excellent company. I have always been happy with their punctuality and professionalism. We needed service beyond our regular maintenance check up and were quoted our price. When the team came back to complete the work, they were able to remove a blockage which saved us $70 and remove one service item that saved us more. They could have easily just done the work and we would not have been the wiser. I appreciate the honesty and integrity of this company and that's why we have been with them for 15 years and will always refer people to them! How can you beat integrity like that in an economy like this? read more

My AC was blowing cool air but would never reach the set temperature. Having used GAC before I called them immediately. The serviceman immediately assessed a leak that froze the line up. Instead of lying or charging me out the wazoo he suggested I wait a day for it to thaw and call the manufacturer because it was probably still under warranty; which I had no idea. I did and they fixed the problem the next day at no cost. For the honesty and courtesy of the serviceman I would give this 5 stars if not for the fact that GAC still charges $100+ just to show up. I understand they run a business and time is money, but $100+ for five minutes of just looking around doesn't seem right. If anything it taught me to call my AC installer next time instead of GAC. read more

I have been using GAC for over a decade. I pay for the yearly service plan which includes seasonal check ups (AC in spring and heater in fall). While that doesn't mean we won't have an issue that requires additional costs, I have only had that once in 15 years of owning the home. They explain their prices and they are always on time for their time window. In addition, I often get a phone call 15-30 minutes out giving a specific time the technician will arrive. They are about the customer. That is why I've never looked at using anyone else. read more

We used GAC's electrical service recently and was extremely disappointed in the level of service, professionalism of the technicians and the subsequent customer service. Their service is severely overpriced and when they left the work wasn't even complete. As other reviewers have said, their service may be going down hill. We have no experience with their A/C service but maybe they should stick with that work because the electrical service is awful. read more

My mother was a customer of Gaithersburg A/C & Heating from literally the very beginning (when the original owner first started the business) until just recently selling her house. Everyone at this company - including the very pleasant woman who answers the phone - is *terrific*. My husband & I were also their customers at one point, when we had to suddenly replace the A/C in our house about 20 years ago. Also; as someone else mentioned, they service a huge part of Montgomery County. read more

GAC was my life saver!!!!!!! We live in a 1950's cap cod in Rockville which doesn't get heat or AC up to the top level. They recommended and installed a Mitsubishi Mr. Slim split-system ductless air conditioning and heat pump system. They have single room and multi-room models. This system is quiet you don't hear a thing. So much better than those noisy AC window units which don't help during the winter and you need to turn your TV up to the max to hear. GAC came out installed the unit same day mid August about 3 years ago. They came back 1 year later to check on the system no charge. Wish we knew about these systems years ago, would have saved us tons! Now we sleep with regular sheets & blankets all year around. The unit had to be serviced only once, GAC came out next day fixed it up in no time at all. Great staff, great techs!!!! read more

Its very hard to find a trustworthy company these days (especially when I am not knowledgable about ac). Jary came over first thing and he ran some leak tests and he was professional and protected his shoes coming inside the house. As I watched the whole process (so I could learn) he was very helpful in educating me on what was happening and causing my house not to cool down. I had another company check on my ac a few weeks ago and I also watched the process. Jary was the only one who did a thorough job in opening the top of the ac unit outside and looking inside he found the leak. If he only looked to the side of the ac he would not have found a leak and it would have appeared to be a false alarm. Good thing he did that because I had a very serious freon leak that had to be repaired. The reason why I watched the whole process was because I wanted to learn and make sure I was not be scammed or overcharged and with GAC this certainly was not the case, they were honest and very knowledgable. Jary was very helpful and answered all of my questions and cleared out the rest of his scheduale so he could fix my freon leak. It took 3 hours, but he made sure it was working properly in the end! After months of stress of figuring out what was wrong with my ac I can finally say I feel ALOT better and more open to trusting this ac company. Thank you for sweating it out with me Jary! I feel alot cooler now :) read more

I made an appointment for a service call. My heat pump was not working. I was told that they will send senior technician . When the technician came he checked gas pressure and said there is no gas in your system and pressure is absolutely zero and you need to change the whole system. I knew the system was working fine until 3 hours before the call . I got second opinion and found out that the gas pressure was a little bit low not completely empty as they told me. With the second opinion . I found out my system is good and only need small Refrigerant charge. Either they are crooks or they are incompetent This company tried to sell me new system and their technician even senior one are not competent at all. Stay away from them. read more

Odd week of wintry temps in Maryland. BRRRR. New heating system stops working. GRRRRR. I didn't want to deal with the previous hvac installers so I hit up Angie's List for the top hvac company in the area, and GAC had great praise. Upon calling they immediately booked me an appointment and someone came out promptly to replace our thermostat and fix our blasted circuit board. After a week of heated bliss, the heat stopped working again. GAC dispatched someone out immediately and the guy didnt give up until the problem was identified and resolved-- in fact, they came back out 2 more times and fixed an old stapled wire that they didn't cause, but because they promised to identify the solution they did. No hidden costs were charged for the visits related to the same issue... what great service! read more

This was the first time using GAC and it was a great experience. Eric came out to the house on a Monday to give us an estimate for replacing a very old unit that had stopped working. The next day a tech came out to do the measurements for installing the new unit. On Wednesday morning the team of Matt, Carlos and Marlone did the installation and in about 3.5 hours and the new unit was up and running. Matt reviewed the warranty information, servicing, maintenance and the operation of the new thermostat. I highly recommend GAC. read more

I have being using Gaithersburg AC for about & years now. Every spring they come and inspect my system for the cooling season and in October we do the same for the heating season. I signed up for their executive membership with GAC services in order to have quick and easy access to their services. Unfortunately, I have been calling them for 5 months for the repair they proposed for my HVAC. All they did was bounce me around, lie that their manager will give me a call to apologize. Never got a call even when I call to follow with them. I don't appreciate people stealing from me. GAC services Gaithersburg MD failed to provide me the executive service I signed for, and they kept billing my card for monthly membership. read more

We needed to replace our aging AC/Heat pump unit. I got several estimates from different companies, but GAC was by far the most thorough and professional company I experienced. They gave me a thorough estimate with several options. Once we selected a unit, they had a separate person come out and do a quality walk through, to make sure the unit was spec'ed and sized right and if there were any other special considerations. We had to have a new "pad" built for the new unit, and they worked with us on scheduling, while I got someone to get that done. They even had some recommendations for me on who to call. The day of installation, they were exactly on time. It was an all day job with about 6 guys inside and outside my house, but it went very smoothly. They cleaned up completely after themselves, and spent the time showing me everything about the new unit, explaining the new wireless thermostat and answered any additional questions I had. We've had the unit now for over month and I couldn't be happier. They added an additional duct and vents in two rooms to help cool them better and it's working so much better than our old unit. I would HIGHLY recommend this company. A new system like this is an expensive undertaking and I'm so glad I took the time to interview multiple companies and went with GAC. They've done other systems in our neighborhood also, and the neighbors I've spoken to are also pleased with their new systems. read more

I have had a heating tune up maintenance agreement with GAC for a year, and I decided not to renew it with them. Their customer service is so poor, that I don't want to deal with them. Details: 1. quality of technical staff is very divergent. One of their specialists checked my outside HVAC unit, said all is good, and couple of days ago the system was not working at all (apparently, as we found out later, due to leaking refrigerant). Coincidence? Even if it was the case, I would expect the specialist to discover it on spot when he was checking the unit. 2. this week I had another specialist from GAC checking my HVAC systems (this time it was a knowledgeable person named John Bennett) and he found that my Carrier heat pump had three capacitors installed instead of one. GAC guys who checked it previously never raised a brow or didn't bother to check? The placement and connection of capacitors also raised some questions and quick fix solution proposed by John Bennett will cope with the problem for a time being. John told me I will receive a report from GAC with description of the problem and recommendation for specifications of the capacitor to be installed. It never came, and I e-mailed GAC with request to provide it. No answer. Instead I receive a proposal for renewal of my maintenance agreement which is started with words "Dear Valued Member". What a hypocrisy! If GAC really values their customers and want me to do business with them, make them respond to client's requests within 48 hours maximum (which is a good business standard after all). I don't want to deal with the firm which is only after money. Customers come first. Listen to them, respond to them, answer them, service them honestly, professionally and efficiently, and they will bring you all the money you want. I will not renew my maintenance agreement with them. read more

Update to my earlier review.... Trevor called from GAC to give me appropriate appointments for having routine check ups for my heating unit and even gave me an advance appointment for having my cooling system checked out in May. All A/C companies have found it more profitable to put in a whole new system, than to make repairs. They give you all this BS talk blaming the EPA for this need. This is true due to some extent because of R22 phase out, but in Europe, for the last 5 years, has been using R44 which is an inexpensive approved equal, that can be used in an R22 system This is a dirty little secret that our A/C companies in this country make pretense that they know nothing about it. GAC is the only one I know of that will make repairs on an existing R22 system, without shaking you down with a complete new installation. read more

I got three quotes for a new HVAC system. All three were good in terms of price and quality, but all-in-all GAC edged out the others. Chris, the estimator, was very thorough and professional. He explained every part of the job to me and took pictures & video to share with the installers so they would be familiar with my layout. Chris stayed in touch with me right up until the job was about to happen - it's a good feeling to know you have a specific person you can call with a question. Jeff & Oscar, the installers, were on time and very careful. They left my basement cleaner than when they arrived, and they completed the job in only a few hours. Both men were happy to answer my questions during the job (they were patient, too), and they took care of some extra items related to my setup free of charge (previous contractors hadn't always done things by the book). The new system is much more quiet and efficient than the 30-year-old furnace & almost 20-year-old AC they replaced. read more

We had GAC come out an evaluate the incredibly loud noise an air return was causing in a house we were purchasing. They not only diminished the noise, but also rectified many other issues with the furnace system, as it turns out, many aspects of the system were not to code. I used GAC for many years and so did my mother. I recommended them to friends and family. I developed concerns in the last few years. I asked them to check the systems at my mother's home when beginning to rent it. They recommended $4000 plus in electrical rewiring of the house for 3 different systems saying each wiring (in the walls) was causing problems. This was 3 systems installed at 3 different times in the house (Including one they had replaced for my mother I believe). This seemed strange to me that wiring which does not normally go bad in a house over many many decades, would suddenly be problematic in 3 different areas of house installed at different times in the life of the house. So I got my electrician to check the wiring. They could detect no abnormalities in the wiring connecting components and the thermostat. There were a few legitimate more minor things that needed fixing (like corrosion at a connection) but no rewiring was found warranted. Then, when I was out of town and the tenant had an issue with the furnace, my brother, forgetting we now had a home warranty and not being privvy to all this on the wiring, called GAC remembering they had serviced the house for many years. GAC came out and said the thermostat needed replacing for the furnace unit in question. They replaced it (with a cost of $400 for the unit itself plus labor) but said they could not get the AC unit to respond because the wiring was bad and they would need to return on another call in spring to address that but we needed to change the wiring. I had my home warranty company go out and check it and they said that the wiring was not bad, the AC was not connected to the new thermostat, so they connected it (at no additional cost to me). due to it being cold they could not test the AC unit but the connection was made now (by the warranty company) and they did not expect further issues. I also had another company come out and check a package heat pump unit that other company had installed that was under warranty and asked them to check the wiring (one that GAC said needed replacing). They found no issues either. So, now three separate companies (one electrician, 2 HVAC) have said there is NO issue with the wiring. I emailed GAC my deep concerns about seeming dishonesty about wiring (seems like these kinds of pervasive and repeated claims could only come about from a lack of integrity, not a mistake). I got a call back and message left to discuss my concerns. I called back later that day, now left another message two days later and have not reached that person. I feel compelled to post my experience so that should someone else get an unusual recommendation for expensive and possibly unnecessary rewiring they can decide if they need a second opinion. Needless to say I would no longer recommend this company. read more

Do yourself a favor and stay away! Horrible, horrible customer service by any standard. They won't respond to emails (5, and counting). Will tell you they'll call you back three times in a day, never will. You'll ask for updates while suffering in 90+ temperatures and they will hold back information that could get you the service you need if there is any chance it means you will go to a competing company. When they do give you information like a model number, it will be incorrect, delaying the process of getting the part you need. They never completed an initial assessment despite taking payment for it along with an annual maintenance payment. If you have any sort of emergency it could take them a week to fix it. Again, they won't tell you that unless you call five times to get an answer because they worry you'll go to another company. There's really no point in bothering with them. Save yourself the headache and possible suffering in ungodly temperatures and avoid them altogether. I forgot to note, don't be fooled by the "discount" they offer you. With the said discount you will still be charged the same if not more than competing companies. read more

Had GAC come out to service my AC. The technician arrived on time. Everything went downhill from there. The technician quoted one price and then charged more. Every solution they offer involves replacing units at very high costs. We were about to shell out thousands and called another company that not only fixed our unit but did it substantially lower. GAC is very pleasant and arrive promptly but cost is a major component of clients experience. They fall very short. Spend wisely and shop around! read more

This company sold me two new indoor/outdoor systems in 2011 and assured me they'd last 15 plus years so long as I signed up for their maintenance plan--which I did. After ten years they began informing me it might be time to look at another system. WTW!?!? This year they've informed me that both fan motors are in need of replacement ($2,200), both indoor and outdoor units are in need of cleaning ($600x4=$2,400), "burnt contractors" at $550 and several other issues. I happen to know a thing or two about HVAC systems and have had other HVAC professionals look at their recommendations, they've all been outraged and told me to fire GAC. When I brought up these issues with the GAC Service Manager, he informed me that, "...I'm not a technician, I'll have to look into these things." Wait what?!? A service manager who isn't a technical person? Isn't hat's like a led nurse who isn't a nurse. Or, a chief pilot who isn't a pilot? How can a manager who isn't technical, manage technicians if he can't understand the systems his technicians are working on or the work they're recommending to customers? That said, the average consumer/customer doesn't have any experience with HVAC related systems or have anyone to verify contractor recommendations are indeed needed, consequently, many of GAC's customers are likely paying for services they don't need and parts that aren't necessary! This business appears to be tantamount to a seedy car repairman and in the end, an up-sale factory! Buyer, DO beware! Gaithersburg Air is about charging customers for things that aren't needed and doing "maintenance" that is grossly overpriced! Look elsewhere for your HVAC needs! read more
