I called on a day the store happened to be closed, but the owners were at the shop anyway for a previous appointment, so she invited us to come over. She and her husband listened to our violin needs, offered some suggestions, and proceeded to restring two violins, provide two bows and fine tuners for both violins while we waited...for a reasonable price...on their day off! The owners are so sweet. It is obvious from the moment you walk into their store by the way you are greeted like family, that they clearly care about their customers and their business. Not only did she help me with this, she also helped me tune my violin and, noticing the bridge was crooked, put it back in place. When I offered to pay, she said it was for free. I accidentally connected the speaker output of my amp incorrectly to a load box, which resulted in a failed power tube. Frank went through the amp thoroughly, diagnosed the problem, replaced the necessary tubes, tested everything, and kept me informed throughout the entire process. His attention to detail was incredible. He even made a YouTube video showing the diagnosis, repair, and testing of the amp, which was really cool to see and gave me even more confidence in his work. The turnaround time absolutely blew me away. I dropped the amp off on Wednesday and had it back that same Friday! I was expecting to be without it for at least a week or two. The amp is back home now and sounds absolutely incredible--strong, healthy, and like new again. STAY AWAY unless you want bad customer service, difficulty brought on by a huge language barrier…read moreand dealing with a guy who doesn't do much listening. If so, then this is your guy! Where do I start? To begin with, Paul's Violin is not located in a store. It's located in a back room of his house. That was the first red flag. The 2nd red flag is there is a huge language barrier. I mean HUGE. I'm not sure English is even his 2nd language. How none of the other posters mention this is odd. I took a couple violins in to have them restrung and get new bows. Simple enough. We only got as far as one violin. He proceeded to find an issue with that violin having been previously repaired, which we did not know. So he came up with what he felt as a solution to something that has never been a problem. The more I asked him about why he felt this was an issue now, after never having been one before, and then asked him specifics about what he wanted to do to "resolve" it, the more irritated he became. He does not like to be questioned. I've dealt with people like this in the past who "think" they are masters at their craft, and are beyond questioning. When he did try to communicate, we could not understand him at all. My wife included. To make it worse, he would talk directly to my wife, who knows nothing about violins. I asked him a few times to talk directly to me, which he wouldn't do, and then he would proceed to insult me to my wife. He would itemize a price on a post-it note, and when I asked him at least five times what was the current total price, he never answered me, often mumbling that he was too busy. Hey, if you run a business, be prepared to answer questions & be able to justify your work & prices to the customers. Through it all, I tried very hard to have patience with this gentleman because of the obvious language barrier. Finally, because I could legitimately not understand him, he looked at me and said do you not understand English? Seriously! I reminded him that there was only one person in the room where English was not their 1st language, and it wasn't either me or my wife! OK. To say this was a frustrating experience does not even do it justice. When he questioned me as to whether I knew the difference between a tuning peg and fine tuner, that was it. Seriously? I played violin in an adult symphony while still in HS. By then I was done. We never got to the 2nd violin. This gentleman repairs violins and apparently builds violins, but doesn't play violin. In all, this was about 30 minutes of my life I will never get back. Most of the reviews are from several years ago. If I could rate this ZERO STARS I would. The best thing about this experience was that it allowed us to go somewhere else locally where we had the violin strings replaced and got new bows as requested, and we were treated with professionalism, courtesy & respect, something this guy knows nothing about! Go somewhere else because there are better choices locally!
