From outside Street Lane, and indeed Napa, appeared to be void of people. There was barely a…read morepedestrian about the place and merely one old chap sat outside the bar, so I wasn't hugely sure about this place as I came to it. Still, I was in fact dying for some refreshment so I wandered in. A haze of warm air and people smell hit me like penetrating an airlock as I opened their doors. Here, apparently, was where all the people were hiding. It was *buzzing* with customers all vying for a decent lunchtime table spot. I was greeted almost immediately by a lovely waitress who asked, since I was only having a coffee, if I could order and pay at the bar before seating myself. No problem. I was served reasonably quickly by another nice chap who offered to bring out my drink once he'd made it. I was really glad he offered this as, since the ice and snows, I can't stand up for too long without my posterior (yes, on the left cheek to be precise, gah!) aching from where I fell over. I realise this makes me sound like a fuddy-duddy, but it's completely true - no long walks for me anymore! Boo. Anyhow, I chose to sit out in the sun and cool March air, away from the noise and hub-bub of their luncheon crowd. It was lovely and calm, my coffee arrived promptly, and it was pretty darn good. Having seen how many people chose to eat here I'm definitely tempted to come back too. On my way to the ladies' I noticed more than a few tasty looking dishes, as well as the many amusing photographs of who I assume must be the chefs, posing with vegetables, cows and holding lobsters etc. Tres amusant and informative. It also bodes well if there are a few of you - if you book a party of six or more you can receive a 50% discount on two of the main courses. Nice! They also have a 'buy one get one free' offer on breakfasts too. Yum. As cafe/bars go, this one seems to be a very popular and pleasant choice. Win all round!

There's an extensive menu with good variety of grub including a Blue Cheese Burger which overspills with Dolcelatte - insert Homer's gurgle here - but a bit of a porr show oon the vegetarian side considering the amount of stuff available. Napa's sourcing policy is boasted on the menu with local suppliers being used for their vegetables, cakes and meat. The booze selection ranges from popular products to more sophisticate selections of draught beers and wines from the bar's namesake valley in California. The cocktail selections is pretty Moorish too.

After a good night out, Sunday Lunch is almost a given. In search near Moortown my other half…read moresuggested that we lunch at the Lord Darcy. The pub stands rather grand along Harrogate road and appears to be rather a popular destination due to the carvery they have each weekend. Happily, since we were running on 4pm by the time we were ready for something to eat there was no queue at all and sorting out the grub was a quick-march swiftly sorted deal. The carvery offered three meats, gammon, beef and turkey, and a whole host of veg. There were all the usuals, and nothing too fancy like courgettes, but the addition of caramelised onions was a real treat. As is the problem with carveries, the majority of the veg on offer was a little over cooked on the hot plates, and the roast potatoes were a touch disappointing. Not all that crispy, but the mash was to die for! Essentially, it's a lovely pub and the carvery will certainly sort you out but it's not overtly special. Then again, at about £7, it's rather good value so who cares? Especially when hung over... The plus points were that the gammon was incredible, fully tasty and cooked wonderfully, and the portions were humongous. The chap serving the meats was lovely and extremely generous in his carving - my boyfriend received an incredibly large piece of gammon. The pub itself was delightful too - a proper country pub vibe, cosy little nooks and a large outdoor area in which to sit when the sun decides to visit us once more. The selection of drinks included a number of real ales, which appeared to be local, and all the usual fare.

It's got an air of exclusivity about it being in such a well-to-do area, but it's not pretentious, which impresses me. It's always quite lively and full of nice people, on both sides of the bar. Prices are standard, and the food is definitely better than the average pub fare, and it has real ales on tap, which I wasn't expecting. The only bad thing I can think of is that they had their Christmas decorations up in September. Oh dear.

Like other Wetherspoons, however, it does what it says on the tin fairly well. The drinks are cheaper than you'll see anywhere outside of a Sam Smiths pub and there's usually a decent range of cask ales on offer. Similarly, the food fall squarely into the 'adequate' column - not a terrible thing, given that you can eat for under a fiver. It might not be the most suave place in Chapel Allerton, but it's just about the cheapest. You could do worse.

Don't get me wrong, it a Wetherspoons after all so I don't expect them to be winning awards for Customer Service however a little 'thank you' from the Bar staff would have been nice. Also, out of three staff behind the bar- only 1 guy was doing some work- the other two women were talking (one very loudly) about her kids school issues- save it for your tortured husband love! You almost put me off my food!!! We had the 'curry' offer (curry, rice, naan, poppadum and drink) for £5.49 which you seriously can't fault for value or portion size- I couldn't actually finish mine. The meat was good quality, the sauce nice and plentiful and the poppadoms were crisp- what more could you ask for. Food served in 12 minutes, a clean eating environment and nothing pretentious- just does exactly what it's meant to. Could be done with a few more pleasantries though!

The building is beautiful, both inside and out. Inside several open fireplaces burned next to comfy leather sofas..which was a tad smokey. Bypassing the large plentiful bar we sat ourselves in the corner ( this place is huge!). Once seated I could take in the beautiful antique wood and collectibles. On the walls hung old tiles and photographs and the ocassional bed warmer. Dangling from the ceiling were vintage lampshades..I felt at home. Sending him to the bar to order a cherry leifman..I browsed the plentiful menu. This was essentially posh pub grub at a generic £5 a starter and £10-15 for a main. It took me awhile to decide ...the languistines and mussels, squid and chorizo, beetroot tartatan, sea bass and other dishes all sounded good. Himself ordered the fish and chips and I went for garlic cheesey mushrooms and chorizo squid. The waiter was really pleasant who first provided us with a large wooden carrier laden with various condiments. The food soon followed. My squid was as tender as you like, flavoured nicely by the chorizo . The mushrooms were cooked to perfection, however the sauce had a little excess Oil..a little bit of kitchen roll to rest the mushrooms before adding to the epic cheese sauce would have made a big difference..still tasty though.. the fish and chips were an epic portion, and the home made double dipped chips were divine. Overall, I really loved the ambience of this pub and its decor. The food was creative and tasty and service was good. The bar also had a nice range of ales and beers..I bet a Sunday carvery here would tick all the boxes too.

There are plenty of big comfy, cosy seats indoors and few picnic bench style seats out in front of the pub. This makes it the ideal pub for warming up in when it's cold and also the ideal pub for enjoy the sunshine when we're lucky enough to get it. It's part of the Vintage Inns chain but doesn't have too much of a chainy feel to it. I guess it means the menu will be basically the same as you'll find in other Vintage Inn pubs. Then again, it also means that you'll probably be able to get occasional discounts through things like the Gourmet Society and so on. I didn't stay for food on this occasion but I did stay long enough to notice that they have a decent selection of beers available (including Black Sheep, which I always miss when I'm not in Yorkshire). The pub is pretty dog friendly too - they're allowed in the bar area but not the restaurant, which seems pretty fair. Service was friendly and efficient and a few regulars were chatting with bar staff when we arrived, I guess because they weren't super busy. Next time I'm wandering around Roundhay Park or Tropical world and find myself in need of refreshments the Roundhay Fox will be the obvious choice.

Ooh it's all a bit posh for a little bit of Essex lush like moi isn't it?!…read more This is a beautiful, traditional, warm pub set back off Wetherby Road. Nestled amongst the pristinely manicured residences of some of Leeds' more affluent types who like to Sunday lunch at White House then go home and sit in begrudging silence at either end of the heated indoor swimming pool. And that's why I like it. Yes the food is DELICIOUS and very reasonably priced, there's a wide range of drinks and the staff have clearly been trained by the Corgi Quiet Discipline Team at the University of Buckingham BUT...........for the real reason. Please. Please just go there, enjoy the twinkles in the eyes of the lovely staff when they realise you are a 'norm' then get utterly utterly bladdered in amongst the creme de la creme of Roundhay society. Pour white wine over your top, get your mate to lick it off and then roar with hideous, gurgling laughter as you make a glorious spectacle of yourself. The bar staff will titter, twinsetted ladies will politely roll their eyes whilst their husbands eye you with the kind of wanton lust and longing that's not been on their faces since that dirty girl in Mexico on their gap year from Medical School. Seriously, eat, drink and make merry in this beautiful place for all the best reasons.....and also just because you like reminding those who place themselves in the upper eschelons that we working class scumbags are loud, proud and surround them. It was cosy, warm and had a good ambience, creating a nice atmosphere, and I think they were playing Xmas tunes, but I can't quite remember, as I hadn't seen my friend in a long time, and we were just chatting away. We were quickly seated in a corner of the pub and I instantly started reading the menu as I was feeling paricularly peckish on that day. I ordered myself a Coke, because I can and my preferred 'Coke' with the braised lamb shoulder, mash, green beans and a flavoursome red wine, root vegetable & pearl barley sauce. The lamb was well cooked, soft, tasty, meaty, coming straight off the bone! It's companions didn't last long, and the sauce had good flavour. I opted for the main and dessert combination, and chose their own dairy ice cream (you can't go wrong with ice cream after a main!), and had 2 scoops choc and 1 scoop vanilla. Some people might call me crazy for having ice cream in this weather, but I brushed them comments aside, and stuck to my guns. Good ice cream is always a winner. Oh, and the service was good and the staff were friendly. Bonus. So the all important, price is next now. I don't eat out often, but when I do, I like to treat myself, and it came out to £20-£21 (the lamb being the main culprit £15-ish), so it was reasonable and I enjoyed myself. Money well spent! If you're looking for a decent, well looked after pub, with good food, and won't bust thte bank then look no further than the White House.
