Menudo and homemade tortillas!!
Jovan Z.

MUST TRY! Finally a great authentic Mexican restaurant!! Best hole in the wall and honestly the cleanest. I recently visited Gsisters and was amazed by the quality and authenticity of food. I've eaten Mexican food all over Texas&Mexico and Gsisters more than exceeded my expectations. I started with a bowl of menudo, this is a prehispánic tripe dish and a great hangover cure! The broth was extremely savory with just the right amount of spice. The tripe was extremely fresh and clean (this is a huge plus, most restaurants cut corners here due to the time consuming process!). Y'all see that rolled up delicious tortilla in my hand waiting to be dunked and devoured? HOMEMADE, fresh off the comal. You don't find this just anywhere! If you know you know, if you don't I'll let you know. Homemade fresh tortillas have a softer texture and much more satisfying. The GSisters themselves are great! Super friendly and very accommodating! Oh did I tell you they make amazing popcorn too? I bought a few bags to give as presents to my friends in Texas. Most of the bags are gone now:/ A bit of background, GSisters serve traditional Tierra Caliente regional food. This area encompasses the parts of the states of Guerrero, Mexico State and Michoacán. It is known for its rich culture and delicious food.

Caldo de res and three tacos

Summary: Outstanding food. Good service. I love the owner's story. No bathroom. ---- My wife and I had the pleasure of eating at G Sisters on February 22, 2020. Here is what I thought of the place. -GPS Issues- My GPS had difficulties finding the place. Fortunately, Google Maps got us close enough to be able to correctly guess where the restaurant was located. -Parking- The restaurant is located next to a gas station. So if you see the gas station at the corner, then go to that gas station even if your directions tell you to do something else. We were able to park a very short distance from the restaurant. I am not sure that you can get any closer to a restaurant than we were when we exited the car. -When You Enter the Restaurant- The inside of the store is clean. There is not a greeter like you might expect to see in a Mexican restaurant. You are supposed to walk up to the counter, place an order, and then seat yourself. There is not a lot of seating (maybe 15 - 20 chairs). So you might be in trouble if you go during a rush. The person taking our order when we arrived was the owner. The owner is a person of faith. And the story of how she chose her location is one that you have to respect if you ever get to hear it. I am not telling the story here because this review is already long without that story. The owner was very friendly. She will speak Spanish if she assumes that you are a Spanish speaker, or she will speak English if you look like me. I think she is more comfortable speaking Spanish, but she will still get your order right if you give it to her in English. And, hey, some would say the language thing just makes the experience more authentic. IMPORTANT: The restaurant does not have a public bathroom. You are going to have to use hand sanitizer to clean your hands before you eat, but the restaurant has a pretty big jug of hand sanitizer for you to use. The menu is on the wall and on a board over your head. They sell traditional Mexican dishes, but they have some traditional American choices as well. They also sell popcorn. -Our Order- I do not recall receiving free chips and salsa. (I am writing this review one week after I ate the restaurant.) You should not assume that you are going to get chips for free if you decide to give the place a try. We ordered a few things: caldo de res with tortillas; three tacos - one with asada, one with pastor, and one with barbecoa; pepino con limon (a/k/a, cucumber and lime); and a water. We also got chicken tamales, but we did not eat them until later in the evening. I noted that the juice was freshly squeezed and the tortillas were made at the store. I do not remember how long it took for the food to be delivered to us after we put in the order. But when it arrived, I thought the portions were fair for the price. I remember thinking the bowl of soup was generous in size. -The Taste- We were told the food was made like they do it in Guerrero, Mexico. Now, I cannot speak with any authority about the greatness of Guerrero-style Mexican food versus Veracruz-style Mexican food (or some other style of Mexican food). If you need that kind of analysis, then you need to find yourself a native Mexican who has done some traveling. All I can tell you is that the food and drink at G Sisters tasted great! They made their own red sauce and green sauce, and both were unique and tasty. The meats all had great flavor to them. The tortillas tasted fresh. The tamales were also outstanding. They had just the right amount of spice. -Final Thoughts- I was really torn over whether I should give this restaurant four stars or five stars. The food is outstanding. The service is great. I love the owner's story. But it is hard to look past the fact that the restaurant does not have a bathroom. I want to wash my hands in water, not hand sanitizer. So here is how I made my decision about the number of stars I should give. I moved the cursor up to four stars and saw what popped up: "Yay! I'm a fan." Then I moved the cursor over to five stars and read what popped up: "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" Then I asked myself whether you can be a restaurant that is "as good as it gets" without having a bathroom. Conclusion: If you try this restaurant, it might turn out to be the best short-order, four-star Mexican restaurant you visit in Georgia. And I will give the restaurant that fifth star as soon as the owner is able to provide a public restroom.

a bowl of soup with a spoon in it

They had the best caldo de pollo I've had in my life. I even spilled it in my car and I didn't care.

Taco Tuesday has a new meaning after finding this place. If you like fresh tacos you must check this place out. I had the Asada tacos and rank at the best I have had. The fresh homemade tortillas put them over the top. At $1.87ea ($2 including tax) you can't beat it

I love these ladies so much! The first time I came here, I went with a friend that they knew. When I came back alone, they remembered me and remembered what I wanted. Moving into the food. The g sisters burrito is TO DIE FOR! It is steak with French fries cheese and ranch. Like what!?! THE TAMALES ARE THE BEST IVE EVER HAD! And I have been to Mexico, Texas, Arizona, California. You name it. I've had my friends grandmothers make them as well. THESE ARE THE BOMB! Best tamales in the United States and Mexico for sure. These girls know what they're doing. The tacos are outstanding with fresh made tortillas. Al pastor is to die for. The juices are fresh and delicious. They also have homemade popcorn! The girls make it themselves. Everything is outstanding. You MUST come here! You will not regret it. This is the place place to eat real deal Mexican in the Mall of Ga area. Hands down. I love this place. Oh and the green and red salsas are outstanding. Go!!

I ordered the lunch special with two tacos (pastor & chicken) and swapped the beans for rice. It was my first time trying pastor, and wow--I was genuinely impressed. The meat was tender, juicy, and packed with a smoky, slightly sweet, and savory flavor that really stood out. Definitely a 5/5 for the pastor taco. The chicken taco was decent--well-seasoned, mildly juicy, and satisfying, but not quite as bold or memorable. I'd give that one a 4/5. One thing I really appreciated: the meat didn't have that dry, overcooked texture you sometimes get at other taco spots. Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and well-prepared. My partner ordered the carne asada plate (charbroiled fajita steak with pico de gallo, avocado, rice, and tortillas, with beans swapped for extra rice) $15.99. He said the steak was nicely charred, tender, and full of rich, savory flavor with just the right amount of seasoning. The plate was filling and well-balanced, and he gave it a solid 4/5. Overall, a great lunch spot with fresh ingredients, quick seating, and flavorful food. We'll definitely be back!

If you are looking for the best Mexican restaurants in Buford, you've likely seen Hacienda on your…read moreradar. As a frequent visitor to their various locations, I walked in with high expectations for both the atmosphere and the kitchen. While the flavors on this visit were a bit of a rollercoaster, the exceptional customer service and stunning interior design make it a standout destination in the local dining scene. Hacienda stays true to its brand with an eye-catching and vibrant interior. The decor is a masterclass in modern Mexican aesthetics. Bold colors, intentional lighting, and a layout that feels both spacious and intimate. I was promptly greeted by a friendly hostess who seated me in a cozy corner booth, perfect for a quick business lunch or a relaxed solo meal. While the food had some misses, the staff at the Buford location is world-class. My server/hostess was super sweet, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. In an era where great service can be hard to find, the team here reminded me why this chain has such a loyal following. It's the kind of hospitality that makes you want to give a place a second chance, even if the kitchen had an off day. I opted for the lunch special accompanied by their signature queso and a pineapple juice. As a fan of the queso at other Hacienda locations, I had high hopes. It's a staple for a reason, though it didn't quite hit the peak flavor I've experienced elsewhere this time around. The salsa was also a bit of a letdown. It lacked that signature zest and kick you expect from authentic Mexican spots, feeling a bit under seasoned. I'd describe the burrito as mid. On the plus side, it was packed with protein, which was great for satisfying a serious hunger, but it lacked the flavor profile I usually associate with Hacienda's recipes. I have to be honest. The pineapple juice was a disappointment. It tasted more like sugar water than fresh fruit, and I'd recommend sticking to their margaritas or water instead. Hacienda in Buford is a beautiful space with a staff that truly cares about the guest experience. While the kitchen didn't quite meet the stellar mark on this particular visit, the protein heavy portions and the vibrant atmosphere still make it a solid choice for a quick lunch near the Mall of Georgia. Because the service was so incredible, I'm definitely open to returning to see if the flavors catch up to the hospitality. #ashsaidit #HaciendaBuford #BufordEats #GwinnettDining #MexicanFoodGA #RestaurantReview

I rarely write negative reviews, but my recent experience left me genuinely disappointed--not only…read moredue to the food, but more so because of the deeply unprofessional handling of a serious concern. I dined here yesterday with coworkers and ordered the chicken enchiladas. Within just a few hours, I became severely ill and experienced what was unmistakably food-borne illness symptoms that persisted through the night and into the following day. Notably, this was the only meal I had that day, and my coworkers--who ordered entirely different dishes--did not experience any issues. Hoping for at least a reasonable and empathetic response, I contacted the restaurant the next day to inform them of the situation. Unfortunately, the interaction with the manager was both dismissive and unsettling. I was told that my claim could not be "verified" because no one else had called to report similar symptoms, and therefore they could not take responsibility. I was further informed that any possibility of a refund or compensation was off the table because I did not report the issue the same day and lacked medical documentation explicitly tying the illness to their food. What was particularly frustrating was the implication that my experience was invalid simply because others did not report the same issue. When I explained that my coworkers ordered different items, I was met with continued skepticism rather than concern. The tone throughout the conversation felt defensive rather than professional, and there was a complete lack of basic customer care or accountability. Food safety concerns should be taken seriously, and customers reporting illness deserve to be treated with respect--not interrogation. Even a simple acknowledgment or apology would have gone a long way. This experience with blatantly rude customer service and experience with their food has left me both shocked and appalled. Due to the combination of getting sick and the poor handling of the situation, I will not be returning. Their food wasn't even that good anyway.
