This is my journey with Markus of Rudis Tile. I found this company when we were looking for…read moresomeone to do a kitchen remodel. Markus seemed knowledgeable, charming and competent. I liked his sassy responses to online critics. When we first met, I told Markus our budget. We went with him to pick out cabinets and granite and paid for everything. We had already purchased all new appliances and they were on hold at Abt. It was Covid and materials were very expensive, so Markus suggested we wait until prices came down. We agreed. Last February, we again told Markus our budget and he said he could start in 2 weeks. Due to Covid, no thrift store would pick up donations of a dining room table, buffet, hutch, six chairs and a huge glass china cabinet, so we paid $1K+ to have a junk company take our furniture. Next time Markus showed up, he said the project would cost even more than we had budgeted, and he earlier agreed upon/ Finally, the cabinet company needed to get our stored cabinets out of their warehouse last month. They deliver to the front of our condo building, so we hired a moving company to bring them up to the third floor. While talking with the driver from the cabinet company, he showed me the invoice. I was confused because we paid for the cabinets through Rudis Tile and the cost was $15, 126. The invoice the driver showed me was for $8, 526. How could that be? I asked Markus to stop by implying I had work for him, and I showed him the copy of the cancelled check and a copy of the invoice. His face went bright red, he said he "didn't know what that paper(invoice) was" and I was "never supposed to see that" and he fulfilled "the contract" because I "had my cabinets." Markus said he was going to talk to the manager of the cabinet company and find out what the invoice was and a lot of other nonsense. He left my home that day and I have not heard from him. I emailed him the other day and asked what happened with the manager of the cabinet company, but naturally, Markus did not respond. So, Markus overcharged us $6,600 for cabinets. I understand a contractor might markup materials, but 100%? Do not deal with Markus or Rudis Tile. He inherited this company from his father, and he has two other full-time jobs. Markus is, in my experience, a thief without a conscience. He knew my husband and I lived on disability and a pension, yet he chose to steal from us. I am sure Markus will have a sassy reply to this review, but just remember; he lies as easily as he breathes, and he is a thief. I know this because he robbed us of $6,600 and he lied about doing so. He jerked us around for 2 years, but we have finally found a great company to do our remodel. For a much lower price than Markus quoted. According to Markus, he "fulfilled his contract" because we have our cabinets. This person does not understand this is an ethical issue, not a contractual issue. Markus may stick to the contract, but he has no ethics as a business person. ******UPDATE ON THIS PROJECT***** I just found out that Markus did not order enough cabinets for the kitchen remodel! Now I have to wait to purchase the rest of the cabinets that Markus did not order! He claimed when I spoke to him that I "changed the design 3 times" which is not true. I changed it once due to financial reasons. Markus did not properly measure the space and did not update the design when I did the one change. Now I am short at least 4 base cabinets. Markus screwed us once again. DO NOT EVER DEAL WITH THIS DISGUSTING MAN.

We had tile installed by another contractor who used substandard materials and installed the tile…read moreso poorly that we actually tripped over the lippage due to the uneven setting of the tiles. Markus demolished the old tile floor and reinstalled the exact same tiles we had to repurchase. Markus's attention to detail and top quality craftsmanship cannot be overstated. We now have a very high quality subfloor and a lot of care went into making sure the tiles were all laid completely flat and level as can be seen in the included photos. Markus and his team will do whatever it takes to make a deadline. This includes working on the weekend or late into the night if necessary. In addition he is very pleasant to work with. He goes above and beyond to the point of helping us clean the snow off of our car. We have another project on the horizon and will seriously consider Rudi's Tile and Design Construction, Inc. for the job.

Apart from being very easy to work with, he is a true craftsman that understands good design and knows how to get the job done on schedule. As someone who works in the construction industry, I recognize and appreciate quality work. Sam is very professional and is not there to waste your time. The apartment had a lot of interest as soon as I posted the listing. The custom kitchen really made the apartment stand out in the increasingly competitive Pilsen neighborhood market. I just signed a lease for the apartment and could not be happier with the product and service that Sam has provided. This is the second project that he's done for me and, as usual, he didn't disappoint. I look forward to working with him on future projects. Sam is truly a Class Act…read more Having been through our fair share of harrowing and disappointing experiences with handymen and contractors in the past, we were extremely wary as we got started with our kitchen remodel planning process. As a matter of due diligence, we invited 10 contractors to propose a quote. For one, Sam's estimate was very competitive and reasonable (compared to other quotes). More importantly, he quickly grasped what our overall objectives were for the space, and proactively made some great suggestions that gave us the confidence that he was in sync with our requirements. As with most customers that go through a major remodel, my wife and I went back and forth on our choices for the cabinets and countertop, and not once did Sam flinch or pushback. On the contrary, there were certain additional items that were not part of our initial discussions (and estimate) that Sam voluntarily brought up and offered to do for us (at no additional cost) despite knowing that it would mean additional labor to him. Aware that we had wanted the remodel to be completed before Christmas as were hosting a party at home, Sam spent most of Christmas eve literally rolling up his sleeves and working non-stop for over 8 hours (without even meal breaks) and left only after he personally cleaned up the space. It is not always easy for small business owners to consistently put 'customer service' ahead of profits, but that is exactly what I observed of Sam, time and again. He did not accept the final payment until he was certain that we were 100% happy with the final outcome. I do not believe I have ever written such a long review for anyone, and that is hopefully a testimony to Sam's work. We cannot be more delighted with our new kitchen and I am happy to share some pictures. We look forward to working with Sam again on our future home projects.

Jim saw the flooring underneath had rotted due to over watering of the previous owners plants and fixed it all. He is meticulous. We bought close to 30 boxes and he inspected each board for defects. It turns out four boxes had defects. We were able to exchange them and finish the job. If you want perfection, call this guy. He was fastidious and his workmanship was impressive. He is so knowledgeable about flooring he PRECISELY matched the existing entrance way with the type of wood we needed. This guy knows floors!
