To get a huge, huge selection of CDs in this little store, the CDs and artwork have been removed from the jewel cases and put in plastic envelopes. When you buy a CD, the artwork and CD will be put back in a jewel case if you want. In my case, I was travelling and had no room left in my suitcase. Without the jewel cases, I was able to stuff over 20 CDs in my suitcase (and I have plenty at home). The selection is incredible with a wide range of rock music. Lots of rare stuff that I don't see in other stores. Most of the CDs are either $5 or $10. I ended up with over 20 discs for $85. Some of it was stuff that I had been looking for and others were albums I didn't know existed. There is a huge selection of heavy/death metal (but that was not what I wanted). There is progressive rock and jam bands. There is straight ahead rock. The jazz selection is pretty small. We were driving from Niagara Falls to the Buffalo airport and this was just 5 minutes out of the way. I would have spent more time in the store and probably found more CDs to buy if my wife wasn't outside texting me when I would be done. I never buy this many CDs when I visit a record store, even something like Amoeba Records in Hollywood which is one of the biggest record stores in the US.

I found lots of cool records here that I would've never found anywhere else including little 7 inches and old Christmas ones. I love how it's really close by to a lot of other stuff in buffalo, which makes it really easily accessible when going to other places in Buffalo. Everyone here is really nice and the staff is always super helpful when you're looking for a specific record. Overall, a great record store.

And if you stick around browsing long enough, he'll tell you incredible stories about famous musicians and his friends in the business. The atmosphere in his store is like no other. Wayne takes pride in the memorabilia he has on the walls and shelves, as he should! Each piece he collects has a story that's worth hearing. The walls are covered in artwork by local artists, concert posters of famous bands who performed locally, and some really fun stuff too, like a drawing by Bono that his friend gave him! Cool Beat has an awesome collection of vinyl. Both new and old and all different genres. The store is super organized and every artist/ record was easy to find. Wayne is always working on getting new music in so always check back in from time to time to find something new. He also sells cds, 45s, posters, and other retro Buffalo/ music related items. His store seriously has a great collection and his prices are extremely fair in comparison to other record stores in the area. He also has a stamp card to get $5 off when you spend $50. Having read about Doris Records online before my trip to Buffalo--that they've been around since…read more'62 and sell jazz, blues, hip-hop, R&B, gospel, etc.--I was pretty excited to check this place out, along with some of the other record stores in town. When I finally got there I was a little surprised to find out that Doris Records doesn't actually sell any records at all, though they had in the past. They do have a pretty big selection of CDs though, so I figured I'd look around for a bit. Eventually I found a great collection of gospel music from the '50s and '60s by Swan Silvertones, which made a major contribution to the musical soundtrack of my road trip around the state over the next few weeks. I don't know if it's ever been part of their plan, but it would be awesome if this shop had a few bins of used vinyl for sale. I bet they'd get people bringing in some pretty incredible stuff. And then the name of the store would make more sense too. It also wouldn't hurt to be a little bit friendlier to the folks who drop in. I'm not the type that needs to be coddled at all, but I was the only customer in the store, and I got the impression that they really wished that I would hurry up and leave. But you know, they've been around since 1962, so they must be doing something right.

The graphic novel wall was stacked and broken down by genre, which was very helpful while browsing. The man working was super helpful. He wasn't sure they had a comic series I was looking for in stock. He looked it up on the computer and went down to the basement to get me the issue I was looking for. I also enjoyed the zine wall as this allowed me to browse local comic artist creations that you would not usually find. I wish I lived closer to this shop. One of the best comic book shops I've visited.

The guy at the counter was friendly and I felt welcome. The store is well-lit and open, not cramped, and has a positive energy to it. I visited as part of Independent Bookstore week and will definitely be back. Parking is available on the street.
