For some reason that I've yet to get to the bottom of, Solihull seems to be the epicentre of obviously named shops, and there are few finer than the Futon Company, who sell, surprise surprise, Futons. For the uninitiated, a futon is a type of bed, specifically, a kind of cross between a regular mattress and a camping mattress that sits on the floor of a room. Whilst you may imagine this as being very uncomfortable, I use one (purchased from where else but Futon Company) and I can safely say that it's the comfiest thing I've ever slept on. If you're not quite ready to fully commit to a life on the low ground, then futons can also be used on camping trips. You can buy an easy folding, compactable 'futon in a bag' for just £60 (which is a sight cheaper than buying bed). There's a surprising range of futons available, and the staff are always friendly.
