I bought a bedroom set last summer from a furniture gallery's scratch and dent section. The problem was that the drawers' trackers were installed poorly and incorrectly. But, the deal was great, and everything else was in nice shape. I tried to fix the drawers, with no expertise on my part, but the fix only lasted a few months. So, I sought professionals to do the fix right. Furniture Techs was the best pre-appointment service, and when I got their quote at our appraisal appointment, I immediately hired them. Their prices are far below the inflated prices of some competitors in an admittedly specialized service market, and the previous reviews here on Yelp made me confident that I would get service. The confidence bore fruit. I got excellent service. He showed up on time. He was eminently professional, and he did his work quicker than I expected. And my dresser drawers slide better than new! That he guarantees his work for 1 year is like a second layer of icing on a cupcake: a wonderful surprise that makes it all the better. It a little sad that I stumbled upon furniture techs a week before leaving town because they are a great resource for anything you have that needs a repair. The prices are reasonable and they will work to get it done ASAP no questions asked. Rick (the owner) came to repair a button that had fallen off my tufted couch, he repaired it on the spot. Coincidentally, the night prior to his arrival the caning broke on a chair I had just purchased on craigslist. Rick was very helpful and informative, showing me how the seller had done the "DIY caning" wrong and why it broke, and that the other chair I purchased was also destined to break. He was happy to take on the extra job of replacing the caning. The two chairs were returned in perfect condition one week later. I wish I had more jobs for Rick and his team because they are wonderful. You should really just stop browsing other options and give them a call. read more

After a disasterous move from overseas where a lot of our furniture was damaged through poor packing and moisture damage, Rick (the owner) came to our rescue! He was professional, curteous, prompt and efficient in all of our discussions and his work in repairing a damaged bed as well as a sideboard that had dents, dings, rust and mold damage. Both of these items are now as good as new, for a very reasonable price. After initially inspecting the damage, Rick talked me through what work need to be done to make the repairs. He then fixed the furniture and let me know exactly what he had had to do to complete the task (which differed marginally from his initial statements as there was greater damage to the sideboard handle). Give these people your money! They were fast, efficient, kind and very accommodating to my ridiculous needs. Basically, I wanted to surprise my girlfriend while she was out of town by repairing her couch, which had been poorly upholstered thus resulting in the bottom of the couch completely falling out. I called on a weekend and left a VM - the owner, RIck called me back promptly Monday morning. I emailed him pics of the couch; afterwards he was able to quote me and we worked out a good time to come by. He and his co-worker Joe were able to come on a Saturday (only after the coast was clear, they were very cool about working with me on this) and do all the repair work on the spot, all the while explaining what needed to be done and why, as well as guaranteeing the work for one year. Rick was absolutely amazing. I had a flood in my condo and needed my couch taken apart asap so it could be moved as it was too wide to go out the window. The company I have used in the past wasn't able to take it apart till late October. I took a huge leap of faith for me after reading the reviews and contacted Rick on the weekend and got an immediate response. He asked for more information and then gave me a price. I had a phenomenal first experience with this company as they were very responsive and came over to my apartment the same week I called to fix my couch (for a very reasonable price!). The reason I downgraded them to 3 stars is that they gave me a 1-year guarantee on the repair. At about the 10 month mark, I called and left a voicemail saying that I believed the couch needed more work done and, given the 1-year guarantee, I was hoping they could come out and look at it ASAP. Since that time, I have called 5 times and always gotten a voicemail. None of these voicemail's have been returned. The complete lack of follow-up has unfortunately turned this in to a negative experience. read more

These guys were quick and professional. I called them at 11am to inquire about an estimate for repairing my couch (two of the legs had broken). Two guys - the owner, Rick, and the guy I spoke to on the phone, Joe - were at my apartment by 3pm for a free price quote. After getting their quote, I gave them the go-ahead to make the repair, and they had it completed within 45 minutes. They were friendly and knowledgeable. They clearly explained how long I would need to let the epoxy set, and advised me to have another person help me set the couch back on its legs in order to avoid further damage. They left my apartment in exactly the same condition as when they arrived, and even apologized in advance if they missed any upholstery staples on the floor. The best part is that they have a one-year guarantee on their repairs, and they told me to call or email them if I had any problems. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars was that the $165 price for the repair seems a bit high to me, given the minimal parts and labor involved. (Although I don't know that for sure, because I didn't try to get any competing quotes.) Like most people, I'm usually willing to pay a little extra for the convenience and the time saved, but I'm not sure I would pay that much again. read more

I had a pair of 15 year old Bradington Young leather recliners that I needed the mechanism replaced on and I called several places to get quotes. Most of the places required that I bring the chairs to them and/or arrange pick up service which is expensive/time consuming. I called and spoke to Rick on the phone and he was very knowledgeable about the chairs and the mechanism replacement. Plus, they would do the replacement on-site which was huge. So, a week later I schedule it and Rick & Joe came by and it took them about 2 hours to do both chairs and they did a GREAT job. Also, their price is very reasonable. So, after 6 months, my couch fell through again, and I had to call Rick and schedule an appt for him to fix it again. I was sooo worried that he'd give me a hard time about the 1 year guarantee, but he didn't. Rick did an amazing job repairing very difficult breaks in very ornate, complicated legs of a very old and beautiful table. Three people had already concluded it would be impossible to fix, or, at least, fixing it would cost as much as the table was worth. Rick, on the phone after seeing pictures of the table and the breaks, said he thought he could do it at our house. He came over, repaired it at our house, and it seems absolutely fine - actually better than when the leg broke, as he repaired some other parts that were beginning to come apart. I have used Furniture Tech for a few years now. They are both great furniture refinishers and repair people. I decided to have them make new porch pillows last fall, and having them make 3 attempts to get them right they still were unsatisfactory. They did try very hard even taking my original pillows with them to copy, but still to no avail. The new pillows were misshaped, different sizes and looked a mess after 1 sitting. I finally gave up and ordered the right pillows from the furniture manufactour I paid furniture tech 1400 dollars for this disaster and did request some sort of refund since they were so unacceptable. I have not heard back from them and its been a couple of weeks now. I think the right thing to do would be to refund most of this cost. I think they have to accept their 1 year warranty and do the right thing. read more

Before moving, I wanted to have a number of repairs done--gluing several chairs, planing/sanding desk drawers that were warped, refinishing a coffee table, repairing a leaf on a dining table, repairing the reclining mechanism on a classic MCM chair. After getting a ridiculous quote from a local shop--and paying $100 for the privilege, I called Furniture Techs. Rick (and his son, home for the summer) came promptly, went over my extensive list, and educated me on what could/should be done, including telling me when I could just as easily get an over the counter product to stave off an expensive repair. Rick quoted a 2-week turnaround time, but actually came back a couple of days early to accommodate my time schedule. Almost everything was just right. The 2 things that needed a bit of extra work were a drawer that still didn't fit and 1 chair that was still loose. So he just whipped out the sander for the drawer and tightened up the loose joint on the chair, on the spot. Rick is easy going, hard working, honest, responsive. And prices are fair. Contracted with company on February 14, 2011 to refinish dining room table and buffet server. They picked up furniture on March 1, 2011 and I was told they would return it in 3 or 4 weeks. Returned it to me on April 27, 2011 (8 weeks later). At that time I noticed fish eyes on table in addition to other imperfections in the refinish job. They told me something like finish was settling and they would disappear within 6 weeks. Six weeks passed and table and buffet server looked even worse than when they delivered it. Called them and they came back and did a light sanding and polished the table. Few weeks later called them to come back because table and buffet server looked even worse than before. After numerous conversations agreed to allow them to take dining room table and buffet server back to their shop to start the process over again. They picked the furniture up on August 3, 2011 and returned it to me on October 7, 2011 (over 9 weeks later). Finished product looks pretty good now. I asked them when they picked the furniture up on August 3, 2011 to keep me updated on progress and they agreed but the only way I ever got a progress report was if I called or e-mailed them. The bottom line is they did, eventually, do a decent job. BUT I was without a dining room table for about 4 months and had to go through 7 months of hassle to get a decent product. . read more
