Group of us(3 families) visited the Death Valley, 1st time stay inside the parks This ranch was beyond we expected. Room was comfy, people are friendly & professional, because ranch located inside the parks, @ end of day visited all points, it's easy drove back to the ranch, relaxing have a good diners, restaurants food is very good. ranch are so pretty, people can walked around this large facility and enjoy the desert beauty also the very special "date palm gardens ", yes, i recommended.

Washouts from the hurricane closed almost all trails.

Spent four nights here this past October. I was disappointed at how rundown the hotel rooms were and the lack of amenities. And unfortunately the restaurant and store are so ridiculously overpriced. It's almost not worth going. A meal for two in the restaurant is easily $100 or more and the gasoline prices at the local gas station were $8.82 per gallon. If you've never been it's worth going but I wouldn't recommend staying long. Also, most of the park is closed due to hurricane Hillary. Maybe wait till next year and check the conditions before you go. there is essentially one road open, Highway 190, throughout the entire park. It turned out to be a disappointing stay.

No one there, food no longer served. 5pm and empty.

Holy moly, we used to LOVE this place! Especially before it was renovated. We've been going here for almost two decades and have many great memories. Tonight we were really looking forward to a dinner at the Last Kind Words Saloon as we had eaten there when it first opened. The bartender informed us that they are no longer serving food. He directed us to the buffet next to the saloon. The food was AWFUL ( staff were very nice though.) At $29.00 a plate we would have hoped it would be better than hospital food. It's just not as good as it once was. 50 million dollar renovations, too. The buildings may look nice but the food needs help.

Five stars because the entire place has undergone a major renovation and because other than this compound, Death Valley is devoid of food for an hour or two drive, at minimum (The Inn At Death Valley and the Stovepipe Wells restaurant are literally the ONLY other places to eat- I'll add those reviews too). This place has hotel cottages, a town square, 3 restaurants, an ice cream parlor, general store (with the ONLY selection of fresh fruits and vegetables in the entire park) and Borax mining museum. Having stayed at the hotel at Stovepipe Wells, I regretted I didn't stay here. That said, here's the pro's and con's: Pro's Actual food, as opposed to gas station fare Fresh lettuce bags, apples, pre-made sandwiches Lovely setting Newly renovated inside out out. Grounds can be accessed by anyone passing thru. Milkshake was great, albeit $13! Both the indoor and outdoor setting at the Last Kind Words Saloon restaurant was very nice! Cons: Extremely expensive- $13 milkshake, $3 Kind Bar, $8.99 pre-made chick sandwich croissant, $7.99 loaf of bread, $6.49 small jar of peanut butter, (see lunch menu for restaurant prices, entrees $44- $75). Understaffed. We waited 45 minutes to be seated at the restaurant, during which time we waited at the bar to get drinks. Two bartenders, overwhelmed with preparing to-go orders and tending bar, eventually left their bar post, stopped serving drinks altogether, went into the kitchen for 15 minutes, causing us to abandon our attempt to eat/drink there. Note that the food being served looked and smelled good, and if it is as good as their sister restaurant at The Inn At Death Valley, I would have been OK paying the extremely high prices.

Good enough place in the national park. The only place that's affordable and with the right amenities (restaurants and general store). Seems nicer than stovepipe (even though stovepipe is more central). Go to the inn to hang out for meals / reading. Much nicer ambience. Best to keep same schedule as the other guests. Sound proof-ness is non existent - they will wake you up in the morning and loud vacuuming will start right around 9-10am.

60-minute check-in at lobby.

I'll start with a disclaimer: it takes a lot for me to be disappointed on vacation, but this place managed to do it. Management/Hospitality: - To start off, The Ranch at Furnace Creek has a sister hotel a couple minutes down the road called The Oasis. In an incredibly inconvenient business model, the hotel registration/concierge desk for both hotels was at the Oasis. Therefore, you have to drive to a separate hotel in order to check-in or communicate with staff regarding your stay the The Ranch. - In what was an absolute logistical nightmare, check-in consisted of a 60-minute wait in a mob of people. I'm not sure if staff was just not prepared or if this is the norm, but guests were forced to create our own lines and order while we waited for an hour to check-in (see photos). - We booked 3 nights at The Ranch, however after night 1 our room key cards no longer worked. We had to contact customer service only to be told to return to the check-in lobby so our cards could be correctly coded. I had the pleasure of waiting in another 45-min line to resolve a mistake I did not cause. Location - The Ranch is located right in the middle of the park, which is convenient when wanting to visit various different sites. Room - As other guests have stated, walls are paper thin. No exaggeration when I say that a conversation in the room next door sounds like it is happening within your room. Very significant lack of privacy. - Room seemed pretty dated and stale. Food - Very limited food options within the hotel area. You have the choice of 2 very expensive restaurants and an expensive deli. The Last Kind Words Saloon had a very cool theme and decorations (see photo), just be prepared to eat standard food for $40+ per plate. - If you plan on staying several days, I recommend driving over to Stovepipe Wells area where they have more options at reasonable prices. Miscellaneous - There is a horseback riding experience located onsite of The Ranch that I definitely recommend! Great prices and was well worth it. Check The Ranch's website for info. - There is also a little outdoor museum worth looking at that is located onsite. Summary - As you'll read in several other reviews, The Ranch falls very short in terms of expectations at the price range this hotel falls in. Being that they are one of the few hotel "resorts" in the Park, it seems like they lack the motivation from other competitors. Due to my experience, I recommend taking your business elsewhere in the Park.

The pool! It was warm for December, but too cold for me. And it's a long walk back to the 900 wing when you're wet and it's 50 degrees!

Acceptable, but no other competition. Food was not great, and pretty over priced. Good location and heated pool.

We got seated and waited. Meanwhile, the table after us got seatedz got nebus. Bread, water, and their main dish before we even got a waiter. Last kind words for dinner was always so packed and we did not want to wait. Borax museum on site for us to explore. General store for us to buy some snacks for the kids. That's pretty much it. When you're the only show in town in the middle of the desert, you can get away with murder. We booked our room several months in advance and it cost almost $300 a night. While we weren't exactly expecting anything "nice," we did expect that our room would not smell like a combination of dirty feet and mold, which it did. The walls are also paper thin, so expect to hear everything going on anywhere within one foot of your quarters. There's no water pressure. The bedding is kind of gross. There's no access to laundry unless you're in a cottage, and there is no gym. Let's talk about the food. The "market" sells protein bars and a miniature bag of chips for $6. The cold brew we got from the coffee station was the most disgusting, sourly bitter drink that we have ever had in our lives. Now, on to the "restaurants": 1) Ice cream Parlor: We unfortunately had dinner here our first night. If you're into unfrozen hamburgers, then this is the place for you. The fries are decent. Chili is the stuff straight out of a can, and it's not hot. The ice cream is pretty good, but costs an exorbitant amount of money. The staff is miserable. The one guy on the register charged us an extra $14 for an item we did not order, and when we pointed out the discrepancy, he looked annoyed at us. Amazing! 2) The Last Kind Words Saloon: We did really like the vibe/atmosphere in this spot, which comes close to the line of being cheesy, but doesn't quite cross it. The chili here, while seemingly homemade, is also not hot. The onion rings are good. The black bean burger tasted like paper. This spot costs more, and is supposed to be more "upscale," but don't be fooled. 3) We went across the highway to the "nicer" hotel and had dinner there on our last night. It's not much of an improvement, more just like a Potemkin village. The three sisters soup was also NOT hot--that's three for three! Is it that hard to serve a soup/chili above luke-warm?? We did enjoy the brussels sprouts, and the veggie enchiladas were passable. The flourless chocolate cake was served, unnecessarily, with a bazillion pine nuts on top of it (no whipped cream or anything else to pull it together at all. Just: Why?). We actually would have given this place three stars, but our food took FOREVER to come out (like, over an hour), and the ice cream we ordered with the dessert didn't even come out with the rest of it! Just: WHY?? Anyway, we'd recommend not staying here, ever, but there is nowhere else to stay! Get an RV? Or if they have rooms with kitchenettes (which they probably don't because they want to bleed you dry), we'd stock up beforehand and get one of those. The front desk folk are an unhappy lot and very not up to the task of helping you with anything (you're interested in horseback riding? Go walk over to the stables!). Oh, and their wi-fi was out of service for half of our stay. The only reason that we are landing on two stars is because we genuinely appreciated that they had a playground area for our kiddo and the pool situation is a nice set-up after a day of exploring. By all means, stay here if you must, but you've been warned.

Shoshone Inn (really a motel) is pretty much the only establishment in the area and was convenient for my planned expeditions, so I bit the bullet and made the reservation. Amenities: Hot shower (no tub), mini-fridge, microwave and Keurig coffee maker including coffee pods and creamer. Breakfast of bagels, yogurt and fruit also included. BTW the hot water was truly hot, which was nice (it's chilly here in winter). Lots of complimentary goodies (lotion, shampoo, bath gel, even eye gel and pillow spray to help you get a good night's sleep). Room: Very comfortable bed, large wardrobe for storage, and a nice desk with chair. NO CELL SERVICE OR LANDLINE phone here; but there is free Wi-Fi and a pay phone nearby for emergencies. Cleanliess was great. Service: Check-in ran a little late as my room was not ready when I arrived. Keeping in mind that the town of Shoshone has a population of 31, it must be hard to keep enough staff to get everything done. Everyone was very friendly and helpful about the process and answered all my questions. Just go with the flow. THE BEST THING: The Warm Springs Pool. Staying at the Inn gives you access to the Warm Spring Pool, which is heavenly. Shoshone is home to amazing natural hot springs (as well as their own species of pupfish adapted to live in the springs.) These springs feed the pool, which is a short hike from the hotel. Parking: Free in the lot. Tips: Bring food and supplies, there's a gas station market right next store to the motel but with limited provisions. Drive to Tecopa for more hot springs. And have dinner at Steaks and Beer (reservation highly suggested.)

So we spent some time in Rhyolite and once the kids and dog were hungry and hot we decided to drive back into town. When we checked into the motel. I was greeted by a very nice young girl. She checked me in and then directed me to our room. Parking was near our door as we were on the bottom floor but tucked away in a small hallway. Right outside of our door was a picnic table and what looked like a potty area for pups. However, our dogs didn't use this area and preferred us to walk them along the backside of the buildings. We weren't sure what we wanted to eat for dinner, but conveniently located in the same parking lot there was a barbecue spot. It worked out great because we were able to walk from our room to the restaurant and they allowed us to bring the dogs. The boys wanted dessert so we were able to walk to a nearby gas station. This motel is in walking distance to basically everything including nightlife. The room was very cozy, clean and the air conditioning worked great. At the time of our stay the Golden Knights were in the playoffs and we were able to watch the game in our room. They also had free Wi-Fi. We did have to ask for extra towels because there were four of us staying in the room. In the morning when we woke up to take the dogs out, we got to see the donkeys walking through the city. Checkout was at 11 which gave us enough time to wake up, pack and grab a snack for the road.
