We knew we had come to the right place when we saw the rainbow!
    Carina F.

As we left the office and headed to our room, a rainbow appeared, and we knew we had made the right decision for our stay in the Amargosa Basin. Shoshone Inn is definitely the Jewel of the desert and we are so glad we decided to stay here rather than at one of the overly priced choices in Death Valley! The rooms are newly renovated with gorgeous decor, nice tile in the shower, your basic kitchen amenities like a fridge, microwave and coffee maker, true blackout curtains as well as peace and quiet! Our bed was just a full size, but it was super comfy and I don't think we moved a bit! They provide toiletries by the British company Elemis which included shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, soap and lotion. On your bed is a little bag of Elemis spa products including eyes awake recovery gel, lip revive balm, quiet mind temple balm and a quiet mind pillow spray! Really classy for a desert destination! On our weeklong trip, we had the best night of sleep here! We met some awesome people from Maryland at the outdoor fire pit and enjoyed relaxing by the fire! In the morning, coffee, fruit, donuts and packaged baked goods were provided in the office. The famous Crowbar Café and Saloon is right across the street and the Charles Brown General Store is next-door. We did not have a chance to take a dip in the warm spring pool but it was clean and we will definitely have to give it a try next time! The employees were very friendly and informative! The Amargosa Basin does not have cell service, but the inn has Wi-Fi, so if you have Wi-Fi enabled calling, like we do with AT&T, we were able to make calls rather than use the pay-phones around town. The Wi-Fi was fast without any quirks and automatically connected at the general store and Crowbar Café as well! The inn is a bit pricier than some other accommodations at Tecopa Springs, but we stopped by to check those out in our travels and they were nowhere as nice as the Shoshone Inn, so it was well worth it! We hope to one day return to this desert Jewel!

When we pulled up I was concerned that this was going to be a used up, broken down more from the middle of the last century. But upon closer examination I was pleasantly surprised to discover that while the buildings are old, the interiors are very nicely decorated with new and stylish furnishings! Some reviewers spoke of small rooms, but the room we had in the building out back was comfortably sized and was light and airy. Both a chair and a loveseat were provided. Modern lighting and accessories. A very comfortable night.

This place if in LA would be called a dump, but in Death Valley area it was a godsend. Rooms are a bit pricey (cost nearly $100 a night) and lacked a fridge, microwave, etc. They were definitely comfortable and clean, but still overpriced. Since Shoshone has absolutely NO cell coverage, the free WiFi was perfect. The only other option was staying in nearby Tecopa at the Hot Springs resort in a tiny bungalow for $65- no thanks. For what it is, this place is great... Who goes to the desert expecting a resort? You supposed to come out here to get away from all of the corporate BS of the city, right? You can drive another 80 miles to Furnace Creek and sleep at their resort for $200 a night or stay here. Or if you want cheap, and having a boring, pointless, "city" experience being pampered by Denny's and Motel 6, drive out of the desert to Pahrump. There's a free warm spring pool, just a short, beautiful walk. There's an amazing hike out back (starts beside the school house), and it's across the street from the amazing Crowbar Cafe (good food and prices, find that in Death Valley!), and beside a convenient store. About 1/10th of a mile away are the Dublin City cave homes (AMAZING) and the super awesome Shoshone Cemetery, which the "white pole" hike takes you past. So, really, the place isn't that bad at all. Shoshone is an amazing little town.

Wow!!! You will not be disappointed by your stay here!Small, family run hotel near Death Valley- this place has just been completely remodeled from top to bottom. I slept like a baby - bed was so comfy / great sheet/ excellent shower pressure. Everything is brand new . Our room even had a microwave a coffee for the morning . I highly recommend this for anyone traveling through the area. Cafe right across the street has very good food / bar where you can get a drink and sit outside under the stars .

    A pillow spray!?

While I love Shoshone inn I am not a fan of the prize it is a lot for small town charm.

The bed has a surprisingly nice aroma thanks to the conscientious hostess. For its low price it offered much more.

Every conceivable spot has been transformed, and it twists and winds around itself, every bend revealing a colorful surprise. They've built multiple suites around the site, each one a gem. Ours was very comfortable and plenty warm in December. Lots of outdoor seating areas. The property abuts BLM land, so all you see is desert stretching endlessly into the distance. Let them feed you, for Pete's sake. The meals exceeded my expectations by a mile. Every meal (we did two breakfasts and one dinner) was a multi-course feast, with a ton of variety, flavor, and above all clean, healthy, nourishing food. If you take nothing else from my review, just trust that you want Carlo and Jack to cook for you. Villa Anita is warm, welcoming, eclectic, lively, and fun. Carlo is buzzing with energy and stories and Jack is sweet and serene. They have a pack of six darling dogs, so if that's not your jam, be advised. We loved them all: Guido, Vida, Dillon/Pickles, Lucy O. Ball, Dwight White and Betty White Magoo of the Long Island Magoos (my favorite, although Lucy took a shine to my traveling companion). There is no internet or cell service, and no television so it's best for people who know how to unplug and be present together. We spent the day exploring, so after our wonderful mini dinner parties we were happy to retire and recharge for more adventures the next day. Go use the private tub at Tecopa Hot Springs for extra deep relaxation. We loved our stay and plan to return.

The tipis are amongst the date palms next to the house which contains kitchen facilities if you wish to prepare food for yourselves. The tipis have air conditioning and heating if you need it while maintaining the pleasures of sleeping under canvas. There are no meals available at Cynthia's but there are several reasonable places to eat and one superb restaurant that is truly a surprise in this location. Talk to Cynthia about the places to eat and you won't be disappointed. There is also a local bar that bees its own beers from some non-traditional ingredients and the ones we tried during our stay and they were excellent. One of the benefits of being far away from built up areas is the the nighttime sky. The stars feel as if they are pressing down on you. Cynthia has an astro safari where Chad can answer any questions you have about the night skies. Chad has a massive astronomical telescope through which he will show you the farther reaches of our galaxy and galaxies beyond. We can really recommend this safari with the combination of pristine clarity and a passionate and knowledgable guide in Chad. We stayed at Cynthia's prior to the availability of the desert safaris. We would like to go back to Cynthia's and take advantage of these excursions. Cynthia loves Death Valley and know is intimately. There is so much to explore with limited time.
